Colorado Beer NewsToday is "National Spongecake Day"! Know of any good beers that will pair with that? It's may be near the end of August, but the summer heat is still in full swing. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) will release their Serenity Amber Ale in 6 pack bottles this week for the 1st time. Check out their new label design. Also look for Syzygy Barrel-aged Black IPA in stores too.

Oskar Blues Grill & Brew (Lyons) is bringing back a special brew for a limited time, Deviant Dale's IPA at an upcoming BeerBQ in Lyons on Saturday, August 27th. There will also be a pie baking contest, dunk tank, 3 bands and plenty of Beer. 2pm-8pm.

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) is coming along with their brewery installation. They installed all of their serving tanks and the glycol system in their basement on Monday. They have framed in the brewhouse and will have 3 windows to look through to see it. Opening day is getting closer.

Tuesdays Trivia Question: In what year did Bristol Brewing Company brew their XXX Winter Warlock, a double imperial stout? And in what year was it bottled? Bonus points for knowing what the ABV % was as well.

Denver Westword's Cafe Society (Blog) has an interesting article today on 5 local cheese & beer pairings that are great together. Some may surprise you.

Fort Collins Brewery (Fort Collins) is celebrating their 1st anniversary in their new facility this weekend. On Friday, August 26th they'll have a parking lot party from 5-8pm featuring live music. Then on Saturday, they will host a 1st anniversary blowout. Details in the August beer fest calendar. Also, FCB took GOLD at the 2011 US Open Beer Championships for their Maibock. Grats!

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) is planning to bring back their "Dark Days of November" event this year - perhaps to coincide with International Stout Day in early November. Stay tuned. They plan to have Mountain Standard Double Black IPA and Bourbon Barrel Stout on tap for starters. Also now on tap today: Bird Seed Blonde - Brewed w/ 35% malted millet & dry hopped for additional hop flavor & aroma.

Bierwerks Brewery (Woodland Park) reminds everyone to be sure to stop by BierWerks next Monday, August 29th at 5:30pm to go for a run with the BierWerks Running Club. Free food after!

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) will be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary and holding a party on Saturday, August 27th from 11am to 1am. They'll tap some special small kegs of seasonal beers and host some special side show activities. Music at 8pm.

Pumphouse Brewery (Longmont) reminds the guys to come enjoy a house pint for a mere $2.50 today, and our beer of the day for the ladies is their delicious Strike Team Stout. The misters are up and working for some cool patio action as well.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) announces that their new New Belgium Spoke opens today at DIA on Coucourse A near gate A61. Nice bonus for air travelers! Details on the Westword article.

Colorado Earthquake - A quake occurred last night just before midnight 9 miles south of Trinidad and measured a magnitude 5.3. At Ringo's Super Trading Post in the small town of Segundo, Colo., thousands of dollar's worth of liquor and soda spilled as bottles fell to the floor. Oh the humanity! Save the beer!

Moonlight Pizza (Salida) gave word on their Facebook page that they hope to start pouring their own beers at their restaurant as early as October 1st! In the meantime, bring it on down to Spandexville! $2.50 Drafts and Happy Hour prices all day at one of the best places to watch the bike race!

Great Divide (Denver) announced a new endorsement of a social media food and drink rating site and phone app called: forkly.com - Forkly shows you where to go and what's tasty there. Browse photos, see ratings and want items so you can easily find them later when you’re hungry.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) is offering 1/2 off growler refills today August 23rd. Run don't walk!

Oktoberfest at the Governor's Mansion - September 1st - Several Colorado breweries will be pouring beers at the Colorado Governor's Residence at the Boettcher Mansion - 400 E. 8th Ave in Denver from 5:30pm to 8pm. Tickets for CCIA/CBSA members are $25 and non-members $35.

Freshcraft (Denver) is hosting their 1st Anniversary Party and BBQ - On Saturday - Freshcraft will be one year old! Come and celebrate all day on Saturday 8/27/11 for a laid back affair full of great food, beer & cocktails. They will be serving bbq all day – beef, pork, sausage & ribs with fresh sides & house made sauce. They'll be releasing some archived beers from their stash as well as tapping some great specialty beers through the day. At 7pm they will tap a collaboration beer: Upslope-Freshcraft Imperial Red Ale. You will also get a chance to enter a raffle, with chances to win gift certificates & tickets to GABF.
