Colorado Beer NewsToday is "National Knife Day"! There's so much beer news out there to digest you'll need a knife just to cut your way through it. Are you ready for one of the biggest beer fest weekends of the summer? It's Hump Day and you're now on the downhill slide to the weekend. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, August 24th, 2011.

Butcherknife Brewing (Steamboat Springs) is busy making test beers for an upcoming event. Tests are underway to find the limits of their mash tun. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement from them very soon. Butcherknife Brewing, a second brewery from a Wyoming parent of the same name, will officially open in Steamboat sometime in 2012.

Black Bottle Brewery (Fort Collins) is a new brewery in the making registered out of Timnath, however, Sean Nook (owner) says they plan to sign a lease somewhere in the Laporte and College area of Fort Collins very soon. Target opening date is New Years Eve this year. Tentative opening beers include: Social Security - a small IPA (3.0%), Rogue Toaster - a Belgian Dark Strong,
Recession Proof - a Porter, and PDA Panty Dropper Ale - a Belgian Tripple.

Hops & Berries (Fort Collins) announced that the 4th Annual Muse Cup Mead-Only homebrew competition will take place on September 18th this year at Equinox Brewing Company in Fort Collins. This homebrew competition is hosted by The Liquid Poets homebrew club. This is a AHA/BJCP sanctioned mead-only competition. Entries accepted now through September 9th. Additional details here.

CAUTION: Brewing Co (Denver) - their beer was so popular at the Stapleton Beer Fest last week that they ran out of beer! If you missed your chance to try one of their beers be sure to attend the upcoming Brew at the Zoo on September 9th.

San Juan Brewfest (Durango) is this weekend, Saturday August 27th at the Durango Mountain Resort. The 13th annual event will have live music and pour beers from over 25 breweries. Cost is $25. View details and more events on the August beer fest calendar.

Great American Beer Festival (Sept. 29 - Oct. 1) may be sold out but there's still tickets and free travel and lodging there to be won. Check out the giveaway at and register - promo ends August 31st at 11:59AM.

Grimm Brothers (Loveland) is releasing their latest creation - Sooty Brother - this Friday, August 26th. Sooty Brother is a Gratzer style beer (Polish) - wheat and pilsner with an intense smoke and hop aroma.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) has a Facebook message today that reads: "Upslope will be at the Boulder Farmer's Market tonight. Go see Jack about getting a beer between 4-8 PM. The first three people to mention this post will receive a free pint!". Better get there as close to 4pm as possible and find Jack.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) reminds everyone that their newest creation "Chocon" (pig in French) is now pouring in their tap room today. It's a Saison that's loaded down with hops.

Telluride Brewing (Telluride) has received their new brewhouse equipment and it is now in house. One step closer to opening day.

Ale House at Amato's (Denver) is hosting a book signing today at 6pm for Ed Sealover's Mountain Brew (a new book about Colorado's finest craft beers).

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Sethvleteren 8, an organic Belgin Dubbel is having it's release party tonight at 5pm at Ska. Go meet Seth, the winner of the Pro-Am GABF homebrew competition.

Great American Beer Festival (Denver) is only 36 days away! Have you planned your breweries you'll be visiting there yet? Lots of pre and post parties now being planned.

Asher Brewing (Boulder) announced they have a new beer on tap today. Stop by their brewery to try their Funky Monk Belgian Pale Ale.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) has a special firkin tapped for today - 90 Shilling with Chocolate and Toffee. Try one and listen to live music from 4pm-6pm in the tap room.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) is releasing their new wheat beer - Raspberry Wheat today at their brewery/restaurant at 4pm.
