Colorado Beer NewsHappy Labor Day Weekend! Today is also National Beheading Day (unofficially) - Wuh? Hmmm, must be one of those days where the foam in your beer builds up a bit too high and you have to brush off the head. Here's to the start of a nice long three day weekend. It's Great American Beer Festival and the Denver Beer Fest month. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, September 2nd, 2011.

Labor Day Weekend Events - Looking for something to do this weekend? How about a beer & music fest, an Oktoberfest, a celebration of Belgian beer, a Tour de Fat or perhaps a Hop Picking Party? You can find details on all this in the September 2011 Colorado Beer Festival Calendar listings.

Cranknstein (Fort Collins) - a brand new bicycle shop, beer bar and cafe is planning to open officially today for the first time. Stop by after 5pm at 215 N. College Avenue in FoCo. Check out their vintage and custom bicycles, enjoy a craft beer or relax with a coffee from their roaster.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) is welcoming back their Dunkel on tap. Check it out as well as their new fluted pilsener glassware.

Friday's Trivia Question: This little brewery was founded back in 1993 by Gordon Knight with the original name of "High Country Brewery" in Boulder, Colorado. Later on in 1994, the brewery and an event center in another mountain town decided to merge and thus was born this new partnership and brewery name. Their original brewing equipment consisted of a 4.25 barrel brewhouse. During their 1st summer the event center kept the main floor as a stage and dance floor. One of their first beers was Longs Peak Raspberry Wheat. Who is this brewery? Hint: it's not Oskar Blues even though they named a beer after the founder (G'Knight).

Colorado Mountain Brewery (Colorado Springs) - Kill the keg is back again! Join in on their 200 patio overlooking the Air Force Academy Saturday, September 3rd for FREE beer! They will be serving their 7258 Blonde Ale an hour before kickoff starting at 11:00am and won’t stop until the keg is killed! They will also be raffling off two tickets to the game. Need a better reason to stop in?

City, O'City (Denver) - one of Denver's favorite cafe/beer bars will be back open after a month-long renovation this coming Thursday, September 8th. Stop in next week at 206 E. 13th Ave in Denver and check out their new surroundings.

Denver Beer Company (Denver) plans to be open Labor Day (Sept 6th) from noon to 8pm. Free live music from 5-7pm. Enjoy your extra day off with them.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) wants everyone to celebrate the cooler weekend weather and listen to Lee Holiday and the Time Off playing on their patio from 6pm to 8pm tonight. Beer will be flowing from noon to 9pm tonight. Start the weekend off right.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) announced their next reissue of Twisted Pine’s well-decorated Northstar Imperial Porter will be released to the public in November, when the brewery holds its annual vertical tasting of the acclaimed winter seasonal. Mr. Brown’s Pumpkin Ale will be on tap at their ale house later this month and Pearl St. Porter will be available across Colorado in October. Next year, fans of Twisted Pine’s seasonal ales will receive an extra special treat in the form of the Artisan Ale Project, featuring 12 new recipes that will each be released in 22oz bottles adorned with work from local artists. Something to look forward to!

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) killed the last of the Yellow Kite Summer Pils today. No more until April. If you find some in 6-packs stock up now or wait it out til Spring. Yup, summer is just about over now. Also, if you buy one of their new shirts this weekend you get a free pint at the brewery.

Fort Collins Brewery (Fort Collins) announces the release of their Common Ground amber ale brewed with coffee is TODAY! Stop in at the brewery for a bottle or pint and look for it in stores.

A Taste of Colorado (Denver) - this weekend long event at City Park will fill any bottomless stomach with food and drink from dozens of restaurants across the metro area. There will be a featured Beer Garden with lots of samples of Colorado Craft beer on hand. Pig out - it's Labor Day weekend!

Colorado State University (Fort Collins) - CSU's College of Business is creating a Beverage Business Institute to provide specialized management education and research for the beverage industry, including beer brewing. Colorado State University said the institute will offer a number of workshops that can be combined into certificates as well as an MBA with a specialization in beverage management. Great American Beer Festival (Denver) - tickets are starting to show up in mailboxes this week. If you ordered them start looking now - they should be arriving any time now. Just 27 more days!

C.B. & Potts (all CO locations) - today is Wear Your College Colors Day on Friday, September 2nd. Wear your College or CB Potts gear today and mention "College Colors Day" and get 20% off your food items. Better tell them you heard about it on Facebook or else they won't give you the discount.

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - announced that the LiBiDiNOUS Release Party is today at 5pm. LiBiDiNOUS is a Saison spiced with Heather Tips, Juniper Berries, Chai Tea, Saffron, and Woodruff.

Boulder Beer Company (Boulder) is planning for Whiskey Wednesday on September 7th at the brewery. Boulder Beer will debut two new whiskey-barrel releases of Killer Penguin and Mortimer. Details on their Beer Poster.

Durango Beer Week (Durango) - a new event is being launched this year: Durango Beer Week - to be held September 16th through the 24th and hosted by the Bootleggers Society (aka Ska Brewing, Carver Brewing, Steamworks Brewing and Durango Brewing). Check the press release for all the cool details.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) is sponsoring a photo contest. They want to see your Labor Day weekend outdoor fun. Take an Odell brew with you and take a picture! Post your best pic on their Facebook wall, and on Tuesday they'll select one winning photo. The winner scores 2 tickets to see Sam Bush at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre on Sept. 15th.
