Colorado Beer NewsHappy Labor Day! Today is also "Be Late for Something Day". And since most of us don't have to work today, you can be as late to work as you want and enjoy a cold Colorado craft beer. Here's to a short work week! And for those who are still working today - we salute you. It's Great American Beer Festival and the Denver Beer Fest month. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, September 5th, 2011.

Dad and Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - was voted #1 in the Denver Channel 7's A*List awards for best Brew Pub. Congrats! Others winners include: Dry Dock Brewing #2, Wynkoop Brewing #3, Breckenridge Brewery #4 and Oskar Blues (Lyons) #5.

Mountain Sun (Boulder) is brewing up a special batch of Wet Hop XXX. It's hop picking time and what better to celebrate with than fresh cut hops put into a batch of seasonal harvest beer.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) will host their 1st monthly beer and cheese pairing on Thursday, September 8th at 6pm. Featuring specialty cheeses paired with four of their craft beers. Jackie Rebideau, founder of the Colorado Cheese Festival will be on hand to present. Tickets available at the brewery bar.

Monday's Trivia Question: OK this one should be easy. This organization was founded in 1978 by the organizer of the Great American Beer Festival and is a division of the Brewers Association. They run one the world's largest homebrew competition and organize numerous homebrew events in the US and Canada. They also publish the magazine Zymurgy six times per year to paid members. What is the name of this organization and who was the founder?

Renegade Brewing (Denver) proclaims today Hat Day! If you wear a Renegade hat today you'll enjoy happy hour prices all day long. (They'll sell you one if you don't already have one). Join Renegade today for their Labor Day BBQ.

Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) is putting the finishing touches on the tap room this weekend. They finally have an official opening date! Eddyline will be opening for dinners starting Thursday night (Sept. 8th) at 4 p.m. For those of you who have a keychain they will be opening Wednesday (Sept. 7th) with a limited food menu and pouring lots of beers. Come on by after 4 p.m. Wednesday and don't forget your keychain.

Black Fox Brewing (Colorado Springs) brewed up a new 6.5% ABV Saison last week called: Cracked. It's made with peppercorns and coriander and will be ready in about 9-13 days. Be ready!

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) may be closed today but if you walk by their brewery you can get a whiff of the pumpkin ale they are brewing up today. Look for it in a couple weeks.

Labor Day - many breweries are closed today but a surprising number of them are open today. Call first before traveling to your favorite watering hold. And remember that DUI checkpoints are still up and are on the lookout! Don't drink and drive this holiday - take a designated driver with you.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) is offering $5 off growler fills of Key Lime Rye, Cochon, Hibiscus Resistance and Saison today. Also, on Wednesday, September 7th, Funkwerks will be releasing a new beer, Motif, at 4pm at the brewery. Be there.

Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) says if you buy a growler fill today you'll get a free pint. What's not to like? Stop in before they close.

Moonlight Pizza (Salida) is closed this week from Monday through Thursday in order to freshen up and plug away at the brewery. Stop back on Friday for more great food and beer.
