Wednesday's Trivia Question: This small operation is the inspiration of a brewer who was a former employee at Odell Brewing. His love of sour beer inspired him to participate in the "Brettanomyces Project", an open source website which details the research and results from his Master's dissertation on Brett yeast. Using this knowledge, he started his own barrel-aged sour beer brewery. He shares part of another brewery's facility in Northern Colorado and is now producing a line of sour barrel-aged beers in bottles and kegs. Name this brewery. Bonus points for naming the brewer as well.

Butcherknife Brewing (Steamboat Springs) - announces their FIRST EVENT EVER - this weekend's Steamboat OktoberWest! Info on how to attend at their Facebook page.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) is sponsoring a Meet the Brewer Night at the Ghost Plate & Tap in Denver tonight at 5pm in downtown Denver. Listen to stories from Breck's own Todd Thibault and hang out for happy hour. If you ask nice he'll even buy you a beer.

In celebration, they will be tapping a special 15th Anniversary Barleywine at 3pm today. This brew will also be available in a limited 15-case bottle release for $15 per 750ml bottle. Pint prices are also rolled back to 1996 prices - $2.75 throughout the day.

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins) - while they originally hinted back in July about their Belgo IPA turning into a year round brew, NBB officially announced today that Belgo Belgian-style IPA will be available as a year-round offering in both 22oz bombers and 6-packs and will be part of their "Explore" series of beers.

Crooked Stave (Fort Collins) is tapping a special "Chard Barrel Good Glory" made exclusively for Euclid Hall in Denver. It was brewed and aged in Chardonnay barrels. For those in Fort Collins, a limited amount will be available at Funkwerks taproom starting tomorrow (Thur. Sept. 15th).

GABF iPhone App - The good folks who bring you the Great American Beer Festival are now bringing you a FREE iPhone app that will let you peruse the list of festival breweries and their beers. It will link to brewery locations on Google Maps, let you take notes on each beer you sample and "star" your favorites for future reference. The app will also let you take pictures of your favorite beer and let you review the 2011 beer style guidelines. Available via the Apple Store. App to go live shortly before the GABF.

Bonfire Brewing (Eagle) is tapping a single keg of their Tent Pole Porter that has been aging with a whiskey soaked oak spiral all summer long. This keg won't last long so get there early.

Beer for Brains - Join Beer For Brains during the Great American Beer Festival on Friday 9/30 from 9pm to midnight as they offer their first ever Colorado Beer event. The roof of the Ghost Building at 18th and Stout (inclement weather will bring it indoors) will be the sight of this event which will feature 20 or so Colorado beers and will benefit the Foundation. Light munchies and music will also be offered. It's an event even a zombie would love.

Tickets are $45, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Fund for student scholarships. Ticket info.

Great Divide Brewing (Denver) is planning to greatly expand their small downtown Denver taproom just in time for the GABF. Even with the taproom and patio, there is room for only 50 to 75 people, but with the new expansion there will be near double the seating capacity and a lot more standing room. Look for it in the next couple of weeks. With limited room for expansion, Great Divide may have to move in a few years.
