Colorado Beer News Today is Felt Hat Day. Don your favorite fuzzy felt chapeau and display it proudly today, after all, the weather is turning cooler. September is Oktoberfest season, and Great American Beer Festival and the Denver Beer Fest month. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, September 15th, 2011.

Loveland Ale Works (Loveland) - Here's a brewery name you may not have heard of. Plans are underway to open Loveland's 4th brewery (besides Grimm Brothers, Big Beaver, & Rock Bottom) early in 2012 - Loveland Ale Works. Nick Callaway of Greeley, plans to open with a 10-barrel brewing system and push the envelope with his beers. The full article is in the Fort Collins Coloradoan.

Equinox Brewing (Fort Collins) - Spicy September continues today with a firkin side by side comparison of jalapeno and chipotle. At noon Equinox will be tapping two pins (1/2 firkin). One was conditioned with fresh jalapenos, and the other was conditioned with chipotles (dried, smoked jalapenos). Warm up with some heat.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - OB Hops and Heifers is now offering high quality beef from their own hop and cattle farm. They have a selection of all natural Black Angus Beer raised on their own farm and fed on grass and spent malt grains. Available now at OB HQ at 1800 Pike Road in Longmont.

Thursday's Trivia Question: This brewery has the distinction of being the only active brewery in Gilpin County, Colorado. The city they do business with has had other breweries dating as far back as 150 years and is nicknamed the "Little Kingdom of Gilpin". They started brewing in 1997 out of a 2-barrel brewing system. Later in 2006, they upgraded to a 7-barrel capacity. An unknown variety of Humulus Lupulus hop vines naturally grow in the area and are frequently used in their beer. Name this mountain brewery and it's official city.

Strange Brewing (Denver) has been busy brewing up several new batches this month including 3-barrel editions of: Cherry Kriek, Fresh-Hopped Strange Pale, Patience Petit Saison, Hops & Pie Anniversary Ale and Paint It Black stout. Also, 7-barrel batches of: Fresh-Hopped IPAphany IPA and Farmhouse. They'll be fully stocked up for GABF week.

Rockyard Brewing (Castle Rock) - Tomorrow (Friday) 4:00pm at Rockyard Jellyman’s ONE – OFF DEVIATION Tapped 4pm-until it is gone - “Swingin’ Cherry Stout” (Cherry Stout inspired by the band Warrant). Appearance: Two Marachino Cherries dropped into Blackness. Aroma: Dark roasted malt punctuated by a bright cherry sweetness. Taste: Roasted malts w/coffee and tart dark fruit. ABV: 5.5%

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) has a new beer. Outlaw Tap every Thursday - one keg of something fun that will be sure to please. Today's Outlaw Tap is Vanilla Cream K├Âlsch. Try one before it's gone.

Kannah Creek Brewing (Grand Junction) now has Octoberfest on tap. It's a German Marzen lager with a medium body with toasted caramel flavors and medium hops. It goes well with the cooler weather.

Great American Beer Festival - Just 14 days away! Two weeks to finalize your game plan. If you're going, how do you spend your valuable 4.5 hours on the floor? How long would you be willing to stand in line to get a 1oz sample of a popular beer?

Steamworks Brewing (Durango) is continuing their 15th anniversary celebration. All house beers (not including imperials) are just $1 w/Steamworks logo pint all day long. Can you say road trip?

TRiNiTY Brewing (Colorado Springs) is planning a Pre-GABF Tapping and Kick Off Party. Wednesday, September 28 at 11:00am at Trinity Brewing. Help them Kick Off GABF with a day full of fun and BEER! They'll be tapping super special beers from Colorado a couple from around the country. So far the line-up consists of beers from: AC Golden Avery Crooked Stave Sierra Nevada Strange Brewing Tommyknocker and MORE to come!

Big Beaver Brewing(Loveland) announces FREE BBQ SAMPLES this Saturday! The award-winning folks from Bedrock Barbeque will be handing out free samples of your BBQ favorites on Saturday, September 17th on the patio of the Big Beaver.

Fort Collins Brewery (Fort Collins) is at it again and is hosting another famous Parking Lot Party on Friday, September 23rd from 4pm to 7pm. Fall is here and what a better time to say Cheers! Parking is limited, consider biking to the event. Also, The fourth and final installment in the Incredible Hop series will be available October 7th. The Imperial India Belgian Ale is a mix between an old Belgian Triple and a new American Double IPA.

The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins Beer Bar) is running a Buy 1 - Get 1 Free breakfast campaign. Come in tomorrow (Sept 16th) before 11am and get this deal. Then drop back later for one of their 100 beers on tap.

FreshCraft (Denver Cafe/Beer Bar) - Colorado Small Brewers Showcase - on Friday, September 23 at 7:00pm during the weekend of 9/23-9/25 they will be featuring great beers from some of the up and coming brewers in CO. Telluride Brewing (Telluride) got written up in a nice article in The Watch - "Gold Medal-Winning Brewmaster Chris Fish to Open Telluride Brewing Co." - their beer brewing starts this weekend!

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) is preparing to make this year's batch of Fade to Black Volume 3. This year it will be a Pepper Porter made with chipotle peppers. Look for it soon.
