Colorado Beer NewsToday is Tie One On Day. I'll let you interpret how you'd wish to celebrate this one. As for me, I'll settle with a fine craft beer or two and get ready for a nice long weekend off of work. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011.

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Attention artists! Bristol Brewing and Smokebrush are seeking Colorado artists for their 5th annual beer label art competition. The winning design will appear on the label for Bristol's Smokebrush Porter, a Community Ale benefiting Smokebrush Foundation for the Arts. Cash award also provided. Deadline is December 9th, 2011. The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins) - Firestone Walker fans! Join David walker, owner of Firestone Walker, at the Mayor on Wednesday, November 30th for a special release party. He will be pouring the first pint of his limited XV Anniversary Ale starting at 4:30pm. Meet and greet and find out the secrets behind Firestone Walker beer.

Thanksgiving Day - While most places are open today, on Thanksgiving day the majority of places will not be. Tomorrow after you've had your fill of turkey, if you still are looking for a taproom or bar to wash down that meal with a beer - here is a short list of places that will be open (limited hours):

- Carbondale Beer Works (Carbondale) - open at 5pm
- The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins)
- Grand Lake Brewing (Grand Lake)
- Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) - open at 6pm
- Baker St. Pub & Grill (Denver Tech Center)
- Cranknstein (Fort Collins) - open at 4pm
- Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - open 2pm to 8pm

Dillon Dam Brewery (Dillon) - First the bad news, RedZone IRA is running low. Now the good news, 2 Breck Distillery barrels are now full of it! Their Pumpkin Pie In A Glass will be tapped on Friday. Get some!

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) is hosting a recipe contest on Facebook. Do you have a favorite holiday recipe that you use Grimm Brothers Beer in? Do you want to win 2 tickets to the Colorado Eagles? Post your Grimm Dish on this Facebook page and the one with the most likes will receive 2 tickets, but you will have to send them the recipe for Grimm to post.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Come to Copper Kettle on Friday, November 25th from 5pm to 9pm for their Winter Ale Release party. Join them after shopping. Guess which spices are in the ale and you'll get a free growler to go! Food truck vendors outside starting at 5pm.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - There's a new beer on the horizon for Upslope, but it will only be available for a limited time. Upslope will release Upslope Christmas Ale sometime during the first week of December. A very limited (7 barrel) batch will be on tap at the tap room and select other locations. Part of the proceeds will go towards "There with Care" - a charity that supports critically ill children and their families. See the full story on

Renegade Brewing (Denver) - Don't forget! Tonight is Renegade's Customer Appreciation night. Come on in tonight for drink specials all night long. Something different on special every hour. Also get $1 off your growler for Thanksgiving. The Denver Pretzel Company will be there with some sweet special pretzels for you to try. Try their Wishbone pretzel.

Phantom Canyon Brewing (Colorado Springs) - From now on, every Friday after Thanksgiving is officially Barley Wine Friday at Phantom Canyon. This year's version of Winston Smith's Barley Wine will start flowing at 3pm this Friday. A limited amount of numbered bottles go on ale at the same time. 22oz Bottles will sell for a special $10 price on Friday, but will be $15 thereafter. This brew was aged for 9 months in Stranahan's whiskey barrels and weighs in at a hefty 10.9% ABV. You can age these for a while in your beer cellar too.

Equinox Brewing (Fort Collins) - While they may be closed on Thanksgiving, they'll be open on Friday with a special Black Friday American Wheat firkin. That day also marks the release of their 2011 Midwinter Warmer Barleywine in bottles for $10 a bottle. Friday only, if you buy a bottle you get a winter glass for for only $5 (regularly $7.50).
