Colorado Beer NewsHappy December! Today is National Pie Day, plus it's National Tolerance Week (Dec 1-7). Break out some humble pie and tolerate those around you. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, December 1st, 2011.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) has won the exclusive right to use the Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey name on their beers. Previously, Stranahan's allowed anyone to use their name for beers aged in their barrels. Now, Stranahan's is being very selective. Breckenridge is already planning to release a beer in February 2012 with the whiskey maker's name. Look for Stranahan's Well Built E.S.B. to debut only in Colorado and with only 200 cases available. Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Yesterday marked the first run ever for putting Crabtree beers in a can and Crabtree doesn't even own a canning line. Instead, they used the services of Mobile Canning of Longmont to put some 1,800 initial cans of Crabtree Eclipse Black IPA in 16oz tallboy cans. These cans will be on sale starting today in select Colorado stores. Another canning run is planned for today after working out some of the initial kinks with the mobile canning line. Crabtree has a contract with Mobile Canning to process over 150,000 cans of beer through next year. For a full story and pictures check out the Greeley Tribune. Avery Brewing (Boulder) is happy to announce the return of their Mephistopheles' Stout this Saturday, December 3rd. They will be hosting a vertical tasting with Mephistopheles from 2009, 2010, and 2011. The vertical includes pairings with meats, cheeses, and chocolates from Cured on Pearl Street. They will have a lesson on beer pairing from their Tap Room Manager, Phil as well as Cured's own Will Frischkorn! Tickets to the vertical will be released the day of the party at 11 am, and they are $20 first come first served! Mephistopheles' Stout will be pouring in the tap room, along with many other very special brews!

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - Hey Dry Dock fans! The brewery now has 15 different beers on tap for your drinking pleasure. Stop in and give their brewers some thanks for all their hard work in making this happen. They will also be featuring Dry Dock Wee Heavy and Dry Dock Vanilla Porter at Wynkoop's Parade of Darks this Saturday.

High Plains Brewery (Denver) - This basement start-up / brewery in the making is slowly progressing towards it's dream of one day opening up in Denver. Today High Plains Brewery unveiled their new logo on their Facebook page. Check 'em out and root them on. Their brewing up batches of Yappy Jack Brown Ale, Old Bitty IPA, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Stout and more.

The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins) has officially started tapping Holiday ales! The first one is Delirium Noel - a tasty 10% ABV treat. On tap today. More holiday ales soon to follow! Visit them at 632 S. Mason Street. Opens at 11am today.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) is tapping another special Outlaw brew today. Since Snowpocalypse 3.0 is looming over the mountains today, they decided it was time to do something different, so today's Outlaw is Limeulator, or Key Lime Stimulator for those not in the know. As perfect as it may be for sipping on the beach, it's also pretty tasty when there's a chill in the air. Come have a pint, tapping at noon tomorrow and if the trend holds, it'll be long gone by Friday afternoon.

Equinox Brewing (Fort Collins) - Not to be outdone by their cross-town neighbors, Equinox is also tapping a special holiday firkin. At noon they will be tapping Borealis Winter Ale conditioned with molasses, ginger, cinnamon and a pinch of black pepper. Just try to catch the gingerbread beer! Presented in glasses rimmed with organic sugar, or "snow capped" as they call it.

Hunters Moon Meadery (Severance) - Mountain Berry Melomel (mead) is now available in Northern Colorado! The first bottles will hit the shelves today. You can find it at RJ's Wine & Spirits in Fort Collins and also at Bittersweet Liquors in Greeley. This special batch is in limited quantities - 9 cases of 750ml bottles and 4 cases of half bottles, so get it while you can as you'll have to wait another 9 months to get the next batch (the bees are taking a winter vacation).

Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) is having a Toy Drive from December 3rd-10th to benefit Children's Hospital in Denver. They're partnering with Amy Merz to provide toys to patients at the Children's Hospital in Denver. Amy and her husband provide gifts to 500-700 kids on the Oncology, Infectious Disease and Cardiology Units. When you donate to this toy drive, you will receive $1 off any beer! Tasting room opens at 11am most days. Sundays open at noon. Also - Pikes Peak Brewing is expanding! Construction in December will add 400 square feet of space to the brewery.

Freshcraft (Denver) is planning to host special Saturday Tappings. Starting December 3rd they will feature a keg of Russian River Supplication - a soured brown ale with cherries. Then on Saturday December 10th they'll tap open some Avery The Beast Grand Cru ale - batch 9 - a whopping 16.83% ABV beer. Next up, on Saturday, December 17th, look for Coney Island Geektoberfest - a mix of several brews that was then barrel ages. More special tappings to be announced soon.

Baker Street Pub & Grill (Boulder / DTC) - Here's your chance to win free movie tickets for a year! Stop in at either Baker Street Pub & Grill and ask about their "Passport to the Movies". It's as easy as 1..2..3!! While you're there, try out their awesome beer selection.

Denver Beer Company (Denver) says Let it Snow! You'll get $2 off all beers if you drink them while its snowing in the Beergarden. Yup, meaning you drink it outside in the Beergarden. So bundle up with your ski gear and enjoy a cold brew. Offer starts at 3pm. So if you're outside and it's snowing then you get the discount.

Renegade Brewing (Denver) is also having a Snow Day Deal. Com in to fill a growler and receive any $4 value beer for only $1. (Limit one per person).

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - 'Tis the season to give and help others that are less fortunate. Odell Brewing Co., in conjunction with Homeless Gear, is conducting a Winter Coat and Boots drive until Dec. 14th. The drop off will be in their Tap Room- so come in for a tasting tray and bring along any coats or boots you no longer need.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - Northstar Imperial Porter returns today, December 1st at a vertical tasting and to the general public on December 2nd. Join Twisted Pine as they release their winter warmer once again. Vertical tasting tonight at 6:30pm - cost $30 (SOLD OUT). Sample 8 different years of Northstar.

Bull & Bush (Denver) - Today is Day #1 of the 12 Days of Christmas at Bull & Bush. On Tap today: Brasserie Dupont Ave Les Bons Voeux. B&B says it's tasting great this year! Stay tuned for the next day's special brew.

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Come out tonight from 6pm to 9pm at Ska Brewing in Durango and help raise money for the folks that keep our highways open and Avalanche Information up to date. It's the 3rd annual Colorado Avalanche Information Center Fundraiser! Silent Auction, food, beer, music, and good times. Ska Brewing is at 225 Girard Street. Co-sponsored by Pine Needle Mountaineering.

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Fort Collins) - Something is in the works. Chad Yakobson's cellar smells like spiced vanilla and cinnamon! He's busy today filling cognac, brandy and bourbon barrels with Nightmare on Brett Street. Look for this in the months to come after the barrels have their way with it.

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) - Continuing with a series of snow day discounts, Arvada Beer Company is also offering a discount today in honor of a snow day. Come in and get $2.00 off all growler fills. Valid the rest of their business day.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - In honor of debuting their new taproom, Grimm Brothers is hosting a Cheese and Beer pairing on Saturday, December 17th. Details have yet to be finalized, but there will be a small fee for this event. Stay tuned.
