Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Static Electricity Day. It's a day where you're tempted to shuffle your feet across a thick carpet and touch your nearest friend somewhere on their bare skin and give them a nice little zap! They you'd better buy them a beer or face retribution. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, January 9th, 2012.

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Today at 5:00pm, The Mayor will be hosting a firkin from Odell Brewery. It's a firkin of Extra Dry Hopped Odell Red Ale. Come help celebrate the return of this mid-winter seasonal brew. Location: 632 S. Mason Street.

Estes Park Winter Festival (Estes Park) - This weekend marks the 3rd annual Estes Park Winter Festival - January 13th - 16th. There will be lots of indoor and outdoor activities all around town up in Estes Park. Fun fact: Over 110,000 Tostitos scoops are en route to the festival to help compliment lots of chili to be tasted. There will be an expanded wine & beer tasting this year with up to 10 local breweries participating and over a dozen wineries and cider companies as well. Bru (Boulder) - There's a new brewery in the works and it's headed to Boulder, Colorado. This brewery is planning to open sometime in 2012 and is called Bru - handbuilt ales. Patrick's Irish Pub (Greeley) - On Monday the 9th (TODAY) they'll be hosting an Oskar Blues tap take over! Patrick's will have all the top choices from the brewery including a special reserve cask of the Deviant Dale brew. Tons of prizes will be given away during trivia. All the fun starts at 8:00pm. Location: 901 8th Avenue in Greeley.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - Today in the tap room, Odell will be celebrating the return of their Red Ale seasonal beer. There will be live music and fun. Stop by after work and enjoy the taste of this aggressively hopped American style red. Pairings of goat cheese will also be available. Celebration runs from 4pm to 6pm.

Denver Broncos - Congrats to the Denver Broncos on their Wild Card playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday 29 to 23 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. We hoist a toast to the Broncos for one of the most exciting playoff games in years. I guess it pays to win the coin toss in OT! Thanks to this win, a lot more beer will be flowing in Colorado this coming weekend.

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - mark your calendars. This Firkin Friday, January 13th at 3pm - Dry Dock will tap a firkin of Tart Cherry Trippel. Don't miss this treat. Get some while it lasts.

American Homebrewers Association - There are two new pub discounts available for all AHA members here in Colorado. Left Hand Brewing (Longmont) - Holy beer tanks Batman! Left Hand Brewing just received a brand new 500 barrel bright tank today. That means they'll be able to store a lot more beer on premises. Once it's installed and filled that'll keep patrons happy for months! Check their Facebook page for a view. ALSO - Left Hand Brewing is hiring! They need some help in their Tasting Room. Check out the listing on their web site.

Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - This Friday night Steamworks comes together in support of a longtime member of their Steam Team, Stevonna Chavez. Recently she found herself under the knife and is in need of some help in dealing with the medical expenses she has incurred. Please come out and to show your support for a great young lady with a lot of heart. A silent action will take place on the back deck and A Dub Rock band is donating their skills so the entire $5 cover charge will also go to the cause. The event runs from 8pm to 11pm this Friday, January 13th. Location: 801 E. 2nd Ave. in Durango.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Trivia buffs! Copper Kettle is hosting their first ever PUB TRIVIA night tonight at 6pm and 7pm. (Two sessions) - Start your work week off right and test those brain cells before you kill some off.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - There will be an Oskar Blues Beer Dinner in Gunnison, CO on Sunday, January 29th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Mario's Pizza & Pasta - 213 W. Tomichi Ave. Chef & Owner Danny Lefebvre will be cooking up a mouth-watering 4 course meal using all Oskar Blues brews. Danny will not only cook with OB deliciousness, each course will be paired with one of our BIG, BOLD, BAD-ASS brews too! OB's own firkin master TIM MATTHEWS will be there to talk all about the beers & brewing process and of course there will be swag! Get your tickets before they're gone - Call 970-641-1374. Cost: $35 per person or $120 for a table of 4.

Great Divide Brewing (Denver) - The start of January brings out some returning beers and a new one to Great Divide. This month you can find their Old Ruffian (Barley Wine) and their Espresso Oak Aged Yeti (Imperial Stout) back on the shelves. Also, this month brought out a new beer - Nomad (pilsner) - to the line-up. These beers are available from January to March so enjoy them while they last.

Tommyknocker Brewery (Idaho Springs) - Stop in at a Total Beverage store in either Thornton or Westminster to register to win a pair of Tommyknocker branded skis. Skis to be given away on January 14th at the Thornton location and on February 4th at the Westminster location. If you register to win on day of drawing then you'll get 5 extra entries. Give a Pint - Kannah Creek Brewing gives this friendly reminder: We all know what it's like to need a pint. But so many other people are in need of a pint - a pint of blood that is. It's National Blood Donor Month. Help save a life and donate at a blood center or event near you. Just be sure to hoist a pint for yourself AFTER you donate, not before.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - Be sure to join Funkwerks in their taproom this Thursday, January 12th at 4pm for the release of Aurora. Their Styrian Aurora single-hopped golden ale will be available on draft and in bottles, and each bottle purchase includes a free poster!

CAUTION Brewing (Denver) - according to Jonathan Shikes at Westword, CAUTION Brewing is planning to open their own tasting room in space directly next to them at their Denver brewing facility. The tasting room should be open by summer and be located at 12445 East 39th Avenue. Also, at the end of this month, CAUTION will be selling it's beers at Cedar Creek Pub in Aurora's Fitzsimmons hospital complex area. Cedar Creek Pub will have almost exclusive sales of CAUTION's Toasted Black Bat, a new brew.

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - plan to stop by Bristol Brewing on Thursday, January 12th at 5pm for the release of their newest brew - English Old Ale. This specialty ale has been bottle-conditioned and aged to perfection. It's only available in 22 oz bombers and is very limited. Location: 1647 South Tejon in Colorado Springs. While you're there, check out their new Winter Warlock glasses and buy one or two up to take home.

Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) asks the question: "Have you tried our WOODY yet?" - Meet Woody, an amber colored American Strong Ale that isn’t shy about introducing itself with a bountiful bouquet of olfactory bliss. This malty brew is just sweet enough with notions of caramel, vanilla and a dash of berry on the nose.
