Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Polar Bear Day. While these big white furry creatures may look cute, you'd probably wouldn't want to meet one face to face out in the wild. Nevertheless, toast to these big white bears today. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, February 27th, 2012.

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) - Bummed out because the big race got postponed yesterday? Not to worry, come watch the race with Arvada Beer Company at 5pm Mountain time. Bring a meal or order from Olde Town and have it delivered.

The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins) - To Celebrate the end of stout month, they've tapped another keg of Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout from North Coast and will be offering it at the very special price of $5.00 per glass! Also, at 7pm tonight the Mayor, it's Firkin Monday. They will be tapping a firkin of Breckenridge 471 Double IPA dry hopped with Columbia hops. Don't miss that.

Beerdrinker of the Year 2012 J. WilsonWynkoop Brewing (Denver) - Congratulations to J. Wilson of Prescott, Iowa for winning the 2012 Beerdrinker of the Year competition at the Wynkoop on February 25th. American Craft Beer Radio (102.3FM ESPN) - It was Blogger Day on the radio show this last Saturday. Four beer bloggers and writers joined Gary V and talked craft beer for a full 90 minutes. Jonathan Shikes (Westword), David Young (Coloradoan), PJ Hoberman (Denver Off The Wagon) and Dave Butler (Fermentedly Challenged) told stories and shared a few good beers during the show. Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Trivia buffs! Don't forget - there are two sessions of PUB TRIVIA tonight at 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Here are some hints for tonight's questions: Leopards who can't hear and Groups who are terribly Dressed. "No Flag, no country, that's the rules". The Heart and the Colorado Territory Rivers.

Bonfire Brewing (Eagle) - Coming this Spring, Bonfire Brewing will start packaging their Firestarter India Pale Ale in 16oz cans. The label was just approved by the TTB. This is the popular 6.6% ABV, 72 IBU hoppy IPA soon to be portable in cans. This will only be available in Colorado for the immediate future.

Vine Street Pub (Denver) and Southern Sun (Boulder) - today at 4:20pm only at the Southern Sun and Vine Street Pub locations they will be tapping Black Gold Peanut Butter Cup Imperial Milk Stout! This is a very limited supply brew and won't last long. Get some today.

Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - Good news Eddyline fans! They have officially signed with Mountain Beverage Distributors! Mountain Beverage distributes in Eagle, Garfield, Chaffee, Summit, Lake, Park and Pitkin Counties. Live in one of those areas? Help them out and tell Eddyline about your favorite store/restaurant and they'll try to get them stocked.

Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - Fly Fishing fans! Come down tomorrow (Feb. 27) for "Open Vise Night" at the brewery, put on by the Elkhorn Fly Rod and Reel. Bring your fly tying vise and materials and tie a few flies, or just drop by to check it out. Non-tyers are welcome and encouraged to attend! Starts at 6pm.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - Jax Emersum Oyster Stout is being released this Thursday, March 1st at 2pm - 5pm at the Odell taproom. Jax Fish House will be joining us in the Tap Room on Thursday March 1st from 2-6pm to celebrate & tap our collaboration brew! There will be COMPLIMENTARY Emersum Oysters on the half shell - while supplies last. Also $15 CRAB BOILS - crab, crawfish, shrimp, andouille sausage, red potatoes. $9 HOT ‘PEEL & EAT’ SHRIMP, and $7 SPICY CAJUN CRAWFISH. All available at Odell during this celebration. Enter to win a "VIP JAX & ODELL BREW DAY" and brew the next batch of Emersum Oyster Stout with Odell master brewer, Brent Cordle.

Oskar Blues (Lyons) - According to the Beer Street Journal, Oskar Blues is making plans to start canning something new and it’s not beer. It’s Whiskey. Soon Colorado will get to know Lyons Soul Distilling. The barn where the Oskar Blue’s can beer revolution got started, and The Foo Fighters have played will house a new distillery. Read more about it in the article. The distillery should be running by sometime this Summer. The Longmont Times-Call also wrote a feature article on this.

Lowry Beer GardenLowry Beer Garden (Denver) - A huge new project is kicking off at the Hangar Two Complex at the old Lowry Air Force Base site near Denver. This will be a giant 8000 square foot restaurant and bar and feature beers from all over Colorado and have a kitchen serving up local beer and brats made locally. The facility will seat over 385 people. According to 9News (Denver), the centerpiece, which will take up half the space - will be the familiar outdoor beer garden. Vine Street Pub (Denver) - Here's another chance to get a taste of Russian River's Pliny the Younger. A keg will be tapped at Vine Street Pub on Thursday, March 1st at 4:20pm. Show up early to guarantee your spot.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - This Saturday, March 3rd from 12pm to 9pm is the official debut of the 3rd Artisan Ale Series beer - Sacred Spice Chai Porter. Millicent Kang, the local artist who created the label will be at the brewery to sign bottles, display his artwork, and answer any questions you may have regarding his work. This is a Baltic porter infused with chai spices.

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Check out this upcoming release headed for the Boulder Strong Ale Fest on March 10th - Ska will be bring some of their Necherrious (Nefarious aged on tart cherries in Peach Street Distillers Colorado Straight Bourbon barrels). Hopefully they'll save some of that for their taproom.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Looking for something different? How about a Mint Chocolate Yeti? Yup, a Great Divide Mint Chocolate Yeti in a firkin. It'll tap this Friday, March 2nd at 6pm at Hops & Pie - 3920 Tennyson Street in Denver.
