Colorado Beer NewsToday is Public Sleeping Day. It's a day where you should feel free to catch a quick nap during the day and revitalize yourself. Just be careful where you grab some Z's, it might endanger your life or your job! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, February 28th, 2012.

Freshcraft (Denver) - Looking for a change of pace brew? Freshcraft just got in some Ska Pinstripe Red Ale (5.15% ABV) and it's on tap. Stop in for a taste.

Oskar Blues (Lyons/Longmont) - Once again, Oskar Blues surprises everyone with an announcement that they will begin a distilling operation this summer and plans to put whiskey and a tequila-like drink in cans by sometime this summer. In addition, Oskar Blues is making plans to put it's own brand of Root Beer into cans as well. Oskar Blues is looking to come up with a resealable can innovation that will allow consumers of their upcoming distilled beverages to reseal their 16oz cans in order to help keep the product fresh tasting.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - They've released Belgian-style beers before, but this one is particularly outstanding. On Leap Day, February 29th at 4pm, Yak & Yeti will release "La Bhutan Citra". This is a 6.4% ABV ale fermented with an Ardennes strain of yeast. It's loosely based on a strong Belgian blonde ale but flavored with Citra hops. If you happen to be born on a February 29th, bring in your ID or birth certificate and the first pint for you is on the house.

West End Tavern (Boulder) - Join String Cheese Incident keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth to celebrate his birthday this Friday, March 2nd, at 6:15pm at The West End Tavern in Boulder, CO. Kyle will tap collaboration beers he made with Avery Brewing Co. and Breckenridge Brewery Breckenridge Brewery in anticipation for his BrewSki Tour next week in the mountains of Colorado.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - Mark your calendars - this weekend at Odell Brewing - Whole Foods Fort Collins will be selling hot dogs & brats for the Whole Planet Foundation! $5 gets you a brat or dog & a bag of chips! Goes great with beer, for a great cause, sounds like a great idea!

Mountain Sun (Boulder) - Stout Month is almost over! (Say it ain't so!) Today at 4:20 PM at all three pubs will be the last official Stout Month Release! They will be tapping 3 very special barrel aged stouts. Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Aged Ten Fidy from Oskar Blues, Bourbon Barrel Aged Obovoid Oatmeal Stout from Boulder Beer, and, their very own Buffalo Trace Barrel Aged Nihilist Imperial Stout! Don't miss these rare beers today at all three pubs!

Denver Beer Company (Denver) - Join DBC on March 10th from 12pm to 4pm for the best New Orleans-style throw-down west of the Mississippi - Denver Beer Co is a hosting a crawfish boil Big Easy style. Tickets are $25 and include two beers, plus crawfish and all the fixings. Beads, beers, and les bon temps guaranteed. Tickets are limited so call the Brewery to reserve your spot in the beer garden. 303-433-2739.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) - New Belgium is going even greener this year, and not because of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day either. They recently acquired 2 new Nissan Leaf electric cars and will be using them for local sales calls. They will open up 2 electric fill-up stations for free use by customers at their brewery. They also plan on converting many trucks to hybrid models later this year. More details here in their press release.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Next Wednesday, March 7th, Grimm Brothers will release their new Czech Style Pilsner. According to the brewery: "This clean crisp Czech Pilsner is brewed with German Pilsner malt and Saaz hops, giving it a clean crisp malt back accentuated by the floral hop aromas and flavors of the hops. This is a perfect beer to bring in the spring." The Cheeky Monk (Denver) - Another Pliny the Younger tapping alert! Join in at the Cheeky Monk for a Leap Year celebration as they tap their last keg of Pliny the Younger tomorrow (2/29) 7PM at Colfax! It's a great way to spend an extra day of the year!

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Yet another Pliny the Younger tapping - this time at Trinity Brewing on Thursday, March 1st at 5pm. Because they sold out in 11 minutes last year, they are passing out tickets starting at 5 PM. If you get a red ticket, you are guaranteed a PtY. They will also be passing out some additional tickets for whatever is left in the keg. This doesn't guarantee you a beer, but it is likely you will get one. The beer will be tapped at 6 PM! See you then!
