Filling the air with craft beer

American Craft Beer RadioWhat do you get when you mix 4 bloggers, a lot of beer, a brewery worker and an FM radio station? You get an episode of the American Craft Beer Radio show, hosted by Gary Valliere.

A handful of Colorado bloggers and writers were invited to participate in a 90-minute radio show on Saturday February 25th, 2012 on 102.3 FM ESPN Denver. Gary, aka Gary V, hosted the show and led a rag-tag band of beer geeks (writers) in a fun, fast-paced dialog covering everything from homebrewing, beer festivals and beer styles.

In attendance that day were Dave Butler (Fermentedly Challenged), David Young (The Coloradoan), PJ Hoberman (Denver Off The Wagon) and Jonathan Shikes (Westword). A phone-in guest, Todd Thibault, aka The Original Tebo, from Breckenridge Brewery also joined in from a remote beer festival in Arizona.

The show was originally set to air from 12 noon to 1pm, but due to a following college basketball game on ESPN radio, they allowed the show to go an additional half hour, which ironically ended up working out perfectly as the topics and discussions seemed to quickly fill up the time slot.

Dave Butler was asked to step in as the guest host and helped Gary V read off one of their classic Hops Report news segment from sponsors.

During the show, each participant in the show brought along a beer to share. Some of the brews included: Funkwerks Aurora, Oskar Blues Deviant Dales IPA, Grimm Brothers The Count Imperial Stout and a few more out of state premium brews. One things for sure, drinking beer during a radio show tends to loosen things up a bit.

Luckily for us, nobody slipped any f-bombs and the technicians didn't have to bleep out any questionable dialog. The real dialog happened during the commercial breaks anyway!

The show was a lot of fun. Hopefully, Gary will do another blogger segment sometime down the road and invite some other bloggers from around the area.

Below are a few snapshots of the show during the taping. If you have trouble viewing these photos, please visit Flickr to view them.

Tune in each Saturday from noon to 1pm on 102.3 FM ESPN Denver for the American Craft Beer Radio show.
