Colorado Beer NewsToday is Old Stuff Day and Dress in Blue Day. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, March 2nd, 2012.

Wilbur's Total Beverage (Fort Collins) - During the month of March, Wilbur's will conduct four (4) customer tastings of beers they have picked as their top 16 currently available domestic IPA's to determine four finalists. Wilbur's will then conduct a fifth tasting to determine what their customers pick as the best IPA available at Wilbur's. If you can look at the field and pick the winners in each round, you will be entered in a drawing for a Flat Screen HDTV. See the contest rules for more details. This week's IPAs include: Odell IPA, Ska Modus Hoperandi IPA, Avery IPA, and Full Sail IPA. Get in to Wilbur's at 2201 S. College in FoCo to make your choice!

San Luis Valley Brewing (Alamosa) - Come celebrate 6 Years of Beers with SLV Brewing! Now through Saturday, they've added some special beers on tap to mark the occasion. Yesterday, they tapped a new 6X's Imperial IPA and a Munich Bock and debuted a new food menu. Get $2.50 pints and $3.50 strong pints now through Saturday. Today at 8:30pm come listen to Dr. Roberts, a Beatles Tribute Band. And on Saturday, listen to Don Richmond live at 8:30pm on their 6th Anniversary. Located at: 631 Main Street in Alamosa, CO.

Wynkoop Brewing (Denver) - Unplugged at the Koop in the Impulse Theater - on March 6th (Tuesday) at 7pm they are launching a series of acoustic music Tuesdays with a showcase of local acts heading to South by Southwest. Stop in for a brew and listen in. Also, on St. Patrick's Day, head down to the Wynkoop and grab a seat and a beer and watch the parade. Look for the Wynkoop beer wagon.

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - On March 3rd starting at 11AM, it's First Saturday Firkin time! They'll tap a firkin of their Flo IP aged on Summit, Kent Golding and Willamette hops. It's just $3 a pint til it's gone! Then return the next week on March 11th at 11am for a Pliny the Elder tapping. A reminder, they will be closed on March 12th and 13th this month for brewhouse renovations. Oh, and their Farmhouse Nocturnum release party is Friday, March 16th at 5pm.

Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) - There's a lot happening at Pikes Peak Brewing this month. On Wednesday, March 14th at 5pm - stop in for the Irish Beer Mini-Festival featuring 5 different Irish beers. On the 15th, test your wits with Irish Trivia from 8-9pm. On Friday, March 16th they're hosting a Leprechaun Costume Contest at 8pm. Then on St. Patrick's Day (17th) from 10am to 12pm it's Kegs, Eggs & Blarney Scones. Listen to bagpipers. $20 in advance gets you a breakfast, glass of juice, and a souvenir glass full of your choice of beer or beermosa. Bring your glass back that night for one half price beer! $25 at the door. Try their new PPBC Irish Stout.

Colorado Craft Beer Show (AM760 Denver) - This Saturday (3-3-12) at noon to 1pm, Wynkoop's Marty Jones is a guest on AM 760's Colorado Craft Beer Show. Marty will discuss all things Wynkoop with hosts John Turk and Chris Katechis, and play a few of his beer-minded songs. Nick Nunns of new startup TRVE Brew will also be on the show. Get details at

Wild Mountain Smokehouse & Brewery (Nederland) - If you can manage to fight the crowds at Frozen Dead Guy Days this weekend, stop up in Nederland this Sunday, March 4th for the Extreme Air Guitarist Competition from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. It's at "The Annex Beer Tent" located directly behind Wild Mountain Brewery. Cost: $5 to enter the competition. Bring an iPod or CD with your choice of music to perform for 1 minute or choose from their selection of music. Costumes encouraged. 1st place gets $100 cash! 2nd place gets $50 brewery gift certificate. Enjoy a pint a be a rock star!

FoCoMX (Fort Collins) - It's to be one of the biggest music events in Northern Colorado this year. Mark your calendars now, April 13th and 14th for the Fort Collins Music Experiment (FoCoMX). There will be over 300 bands appearing across 30+ venues in Fort Collins, including some breweries and beer bars including: C.B. & Potts Clubhouse, Choice City Butcher & Deli, Cranknstein, Equinox Brewing, The Fort Collins Brewery, and Odell Brewing to name a few. Live music all weekend starting Friday afternoon and lasting til the wee hours of Sunday morning. Drink some brews and listen to some great music. Visit for details. Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - the smallest brewery in Colorado will soon be expanding. In about 6-8 weeks, they are planning to add a new 55 gallon brewing set up. Don't worry, they'll still be the smallest brewery in the state. Coming soon, they will post a Poll to ask what brews they should keep on tap as their main "staples".

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - In a growing trend of brewery/business collaborations, The Bitter Bar (Boulder) will soon tap their own brew made with a special soured barrel aged edition of Avery's 18th Anniversary Ale. The brew was placed in a whiskey barrel that The Bitter Bar obtained and they had asked Avery what they could possibly do with that barrel. The beer is now on tap at the 835 Walnut Street location in Boulder, CO. Thanks to Westword for this news.

Lost Highway Brewing Co (Denver) - The upcoming brewery from the owners of the Cheeky Monk has officially been licensed and approved by the state of Colorado and the feds, but construction on the new brewery (next door to Cheeky Monk on Colfax) won't be completed until sometime this fall. In the meantime, the Cheeky Monk has recently expanded their bottled beer menu to nearly 150 bottles making them probably one of the largest (if not thee largest) beer selections of bottled beer in the state. Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - After 15 years and thousands of pint glasses later Steamworks has decided to change up their Pint Night. No longer will you need to purchase or bring in a logo pint glass. Instead, beers will be $2 and the brewdawgs will offer up as many as 5 styles of our beer to choose from each Thursday night.

Alpine Dog Brewing Company (Denver) - There's news of a new brewing coming to Denver and they are in the process of raising capital to get their operations off the ground. Gardiner Hammond (owner) is looking for people interested in helping to fund a new brewing operation. They have a new website in the works at and also a Kickstarter fundraising web page. He's trying to raise around $40,000 and open by the end of this summer 2012 or early fall in time for the Great American Beer Festival. They are targeting a Capital Hill or Highlands area location.

Tap and Handle (Fort Collins) - Wednesday, March 21st at 7:30pm - Tap and Handle will be having a Beer and Apps tasting with Firestone Walker and Epic Brewing. Elizabeth from Firestone Walker will be there to talk about Firestone Walker while Matt from American Eagle Distributing will be there to spread the gospel of Epic. There will be 5 pours from each brewery with chef matched appetizers to enhance the experience. Tickets are 25 dollars in advance and are available at Tap and Handle. There will be a double secret probation beer surprise at the end of the night.

The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins ) - This Monday, 3/5/12- The Mayor will be hosting an Irish Battle of the Beers! Boulevard Irish vs Smithwick Irish! Battle starts at 7:00pm! You decide which is the best Irish brew.

Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - For all you Bristol Followers: they currently have 20 Cases of Dock Sale Beer that needs a home! If you are interested please come down to the brewery and ask for Derik. Cases are $20.00 and a lot of the beer is Yellow Kite. Sale ends at 3:00 PM or when Sold Out!

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - There will be an in-store tasting today 3:30-6:30pm at Colorado Liquors, 11177 South Dransfeldt Road, in Parker, CO. Special: Buy any 2 Dry Dock bombers and receive a free pint glass and free beer token good at Dry Dock!

Hoppy Dog Brewing (Fort Collins) - Visit their new website and t-shirt fundraiser for Animal House Rescue & Grooming. T-Shirts are available on 'The Goods' section of Please specify quantity, size, and shipping method. XXL and XXXL must be ordered by March 15th. T-shirts begin shipping in early April and 100% of the proceeds go to Animal House.
