Colorado Beer NewsToday is Napping Day aka National Tardy Day. It's that Monday just after a Daylight Savings Time change where everyone feels like they were robbed of an hour (or more) of their sleep time. Grab those Z's when you can, just don't let your boss catch you! What are you going to do with that extra hour of sunlight this evening? Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, March 12th, 2012.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) - The people of Michigan can soon rejoice that they will finally get New Belgium distributed to their state starting this Summer in August. Read all about it in the press release put out this morning. In other news, New Belgium just got label approval for another new beer in their TRIP Series. This one will be called Pink Peppercorn IPA, a spicy IPA made with pink peppercorn. Look for news on this upcoming beer coming out soon.

New Breweries Coming to Colorado - Six more breweries just got added to the list of new businesses intending to open up brewing operations in Colorado. Keep an eye out for these new breweries in 2012 or 2013: Atom Brewing (Erie), Bayfield Brewing Company (Bayfield), Beer By Design Brewery (Northglenn), Prairie Winds Brewing Company (Deer Trail), Shine Restaurant and Gathering (Boulder), and Kokopelli Beer Company (Westminster). These and dozens more are on the growing list of future openings. Colorado will not be at a lack of new beers to try this coming year.

Funkwerks Tropic KingFunkwerks (Fort Collins) - New beer release alert! On Thursday, March 15th, Funkwerks will release a new sour saison beer called "Brett Dream". A beer aged with brettanomyces and will be a Brett lovers dream indeed. Stop by the brewery after work on Thursday and try a taste. Also, Funkwerks is coming out with a new label for their Tropic King Imperial Saison Ale. Click the pic to the right for a sneak peak.

Sun King Brewing (Indianapolis, IN) - While Sun King doesn't distribute out here to Colorado, occasionally some of there beers make there way out here for a sampling. Fermentedly Challenged recently got a shipment in of 4 different Sun King beers. They won a ton of medals at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival. Beer reviews are happening all this week. Check out the reviews on Sun King Batch 555: Isis Double IPA and the Sun King Wee Mac, a Scottish-style Brown Ale. Coming up later this week are their Sun King Sunlight Cream Ale and the Sun King Osiris Pale Ale beers.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - The recent release of their Stranahan's Well Built ESB was a hit and is now considered sold out. Some bottles may still exist on store shelves, but fear not! A new batch of this barrel-aged brew will be produced 4 times a year under the contract with Stranahan's. And also, currently aging away in other Stranahan's barrels will be a new whiskey barrel edition of Breck's Vanilla Porter set to debut in early 2013. Stay tuned for this one!

March Madness in Colorado - Just in time for the upcoming St. Patrick's Day weekend, both Colorado State and University of Colorado men's basketball teams earn entries into the big tournament. The first games start this Thursday, March 15th. CSU takes on Murray State and the CU Buffs take on UNLV. If either Colorado team wins their opening round then they play again on Saturday, March 17th. It's going to be a great weekend and you can bet all of your favorite watering holes will be showing the games this week. Hope you saved up a vacation day for these games. It's going to be great!

Equinox Brewing (Fort Collins) - This Saturday, March 17th, the brewery will be celebrating the Vernal Equinox a few days early. They'll be releasing Vernal Hefeweizen at noon. Also, they'll have music in the Beer Garden (weather permitting); Walter Hannah plays from 3:00 to 5:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00 jam to Here Come Cowboys. Saturday is also St. Patrick's Day. The Equinox crew will be in the parade with birthday boy Jonas Porter in the lead.

Carver Brewing (Durango) - Carver recently celebrated the release of their 2000th batch of beer. This special brew was named "Twilight IPA" and is described as "a Motherlode or hop aroma and flavor". It weighs in at 7% ABV and is rated at 80 IBU. Stop in after a ski run when you're in the Durango area. Also, join in their Tourney Pick'um contest online. Details at the brewery or on Facebook.

City Star (Berthoud) - This soon to open brewery is looking for a few local individuals or businesses interested in free spent brewing grains. They will be available weekly (initially) and need to be picked-up at the brewery within 24 hours of brewing. Use: livestock feed, bird/chicken feed, compost, baked goods, etc. If you have a use - contact the brewery at info @ citystarbrewing.com. Also today, City Star has passed their brewery health inspection. One step closer to opening!

Southern Sun (Boulder) - The pub has just tapped the Bunna Ethiopian Coffee Stout! This was a collaboration between Ozo Coffee roasters and their brew team and hits some really bright acidic notes from the Ethiopian Coffee with a huge roast profile. Come see for yourself!

Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - It's March Madness time! Pay $10 to fill out a bracket and they'll give you a free beer to sip on while you make your choices. And yes, you can play multiple brackets and receive multiple free beers. Tournament begins on Thursday so you must have your bracket filled out by then.

The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins) - Don't miss Comedy Night this coming Wednesday, the 14th! The Mayor has a terrific line up: Guest host Bob Gaudet, crowd fave Cat Winston, the fantastic Kelly MacLean, and awesome headliner Jason Keyes! Don't miss it, it's going to be great! Show starts around 8:00pm, but get there early.

Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - In honor of National Tardy Day (aka Napping Day), you can get their awesome 1/2 pound burger at the 1/4 pound price! Just ask your server for your NTD special! Happy yawning! And don't forget to try their beer while you're at it. Take some home with you.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Need some fun on a Monday night? Come out to Copper Kettle for Pub Trivia. They host two separate sessions at 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Get a small team together and join in the fun and share a beer or two. Also, starting this April 19th through April 22nd is their 4-day 1 Anniversary Bash. Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Expansion fever hits Trinity. They were expecting the arrival of their new brewhouse and fermenters over the weekend and were busy Sunday night starting the installation. They will be closed today and Tuesday for installation. No worries, they will be back open on Wednesday.

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Ska's own Dave T. will be on KSUT, Four Corners Public Radio, tomorrow morning giving away a Ska Brewing snowboard for their Spring fund drive! Tune in 6:45 am - 9:00 to 90.1 FM - Listen live on www.ksut.org.

Wine Fest (Fort Collins) - Even beer drinkers know that at times you can enjoy a bit of wine and there's no better place to sample some than at the 30th Anniversary of Wine Fest, a wine tasting benefit for Disabled Resource Services. This fest will be held on Friday, March 23rd, 2012 at the Hilton Fort Collins. Tickets are available at: www.winefestfc.org. There will even be plenty of craft beer available there as well from The Fort Collins Brewery, New Belgium and Odell Brewing Company.

Rocky Mountain Brewfest (Estes Park) - Sad news beer fest fans. Estes Park Brewery has decided to take a year off from the Rocky Mountain Brewfest this year. But hold on! There is rumor that others may take up the reigns and put on an event at the Estes Park fairgrounds around July 28th. Stay tuned for more on this! Estes Park Brewery plans to resume their fest in late June of 2013.

Boulder Beer (Boulder) - Hey! Want to win a keg of beer from Boulder Beer Company? Thought you might. Sign up for their Boulder Beer NCAA tournament pool. The Grand prize is a free keg to the winner. During the tournament, everybody wins! Once you've filled out your brackets, just print it out and bring it in to their brewery and you'll enjoy happy hour prices during your entire visit. New Belgium (Fort Collins) - Skiers! Participate in one of three upcoming New Belgium Scavenger Hunts during the next 3 Saturday's at 3 different ski resorts in Colorado. March 17th @ Telluride, March 24th at Eldora, and March 31st at Loveland Ski Area. Dress up and search for the New Belgium characters all over the designated mountain. A $10 entry fee helps a local charity and gets you into the fun. Events run all day long 9am to 4pm. Get into teams of 1-4 people each.

Tommyknocker Brewery (Idaho Springs) is teaming up with the Sporting News Grill (6900 Tower Road in Denver) for St. Bracket's Day - a week-long event at the Sporting News Grill. Come join in their annual Bracketball Buster Challenge. SNG is featuring Tommyknocker beers all this week including: Hop Strike, Vienna Amber, Black Powder Stout, Cocoa Porter and Jackwacker Wheat - all on tap!

Aspen Brewing Company (Aspen) - This Saturday, March 17th, marks Aspen Brewing's Four Year Anniversary and they are celebrating all week long. They now have nine drat lines flowing. To celebrate their loyal customers, they are giving away beer and merchandise every day this week. Just sent them email or post to their Facebook page your best picture involving Aspen Brewing Company. They will choose a daily winner.

- Ska Brewing (Durango) - Happy hour Yoga at 5:30pm. 1 hr of yoga + 1 pint of beer $10.
- Bristol Brewing (Colorado Springs) - $3 pints all day every Monday.

Freshcraft (Denver) - St. Patrick's Day Beer Breakfast - Since they are less than a block away from the St. Patrick's day parade Freshcraft will be opening up early (9 am) on Saturday 3/17 so that you can get a good Irish style breakfast in before the parade starts! They will be serving several Irish inspired breakfast options, Irish coffees and Irish style beers from American craft brewers.
