Colorado Beer NewsToday is the First Full Day of Spring. Winter may technically be gone but we here in Colorado know that the snow could return anytime between now and the end of May. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

River North Brewery (Denver) - One of Denver's newest breweries is planning to put out some new bomber bottles (650ml) within the next few weeks. Two new beers will be available in selected stores around Denver. The first is their J. Marie Saison, a Belgian-style ale weighing in at 7.5% ABV. The second beer is their Hypothesis, a Belgian-style Double IPA that weighs in at a hefty 9.0% ABV. They expect to bottle only about 50 to 100 cases of each to start out with, so plan to cellar some of these if you find it.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - Lot hot chile beer? Yak & Yeti has something new coming up. Their Jalapeño Lena beer has been a regular favorite for several month now. They have had requests from some people to change up the peppers or add some roasted peppers. Peppers and green chiles have definitely been added to their culinary vocabulary since moving out to the Denver area. As much variety of peppers out there, they’ll stick with 100% jalapeños. Want to see what sort of flavors roasted jalapeños bring to a beer? Their Tandoori oven at the brewpub serves well for grilling chicken, lamb, naan and just about anything, so what better way to roast peppers?! When the next keg of Jalapeño Lena blows, you’ll see the Roasted Leña beer on tap for a limited time (special release). They’ll have it on by Wednesday. Come give it a try.

Black Bottle Brewery (Fort Collins) - BBB was wondering if anyone has a classic car they want to loan for a afternoon for a scene in their up and coming small film? There will be some kind of beer reward worked out for your help! Contact Sean Nook via their Facebook page or by email: info at blackbottlebrewery.com.

Danny's Gold Mine AleFunkwerks (Fort Collins) - There's a new collaboration brew in the works and it will honor the memory of the late Danny Williams who was loved by the local craft beer community. The brewers from Ska Brewing, Funkwerks, New Belgium, Crooked Stave and Odell Brewing are working to bring us "Danny's Gold Mine Ale". This beer is being brewed at Funkwerks and features the image of Danny on the label. Danny owned a huge beer cellar that was located in an actual gold mine. This will be a big brew, style yet revealed, that weighs in around 10.0% ABV and will be put into 750ml bottles. Look for more info on this beer coming soon. Proceeds from this this beer will go to the Danny Williams Fund. They'll be pouring this at the CBC/WBC in San Diego in May.

Euclid Hall (Denver) - Stop by Euclid Hall this evening for Brew Bites as they feature beers from the west coast. One of their personal favorites from Bend Oregon, Deschutes Black Butte porter, has defined the brewery as a radical player. This brew has a slight hop bitterness up front that enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish, it is prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors. Out of Paso Robles California they also have Firestone Walker's Double Barrel Ale, brewed in American oak barrels with a rich and malty British amber color with subdued hops and underlying notes of wood. Lastly from Chico California they have Sierra Nevada's Torpedo. This American IPA is bold, assertive, and full of flavor highlighting the complex citrus, pine, and herbal character of whole-cone American hops. Come try some!

Oskar Blues (Lyons) - The Burning Can festival is returning once again this year. Save the date: June 9th, 2012 from 1pm to 4pm. This event is for lovers of Craft Beer in a Can, Music, Food and Rocky Mountain Revelry. Come together for a day of plan in Lyons, CO for a world-class celebration of kayaking, biking, fly fishing, chainsaw carving, dog events and this unCANny festival of beer. More details coming later.

Blue Moon Brewery @ the Sandlot (Denver) - according to Jonathan Shikes at Westword, the small brewery inside Coors Field is going to offer up their own sour ale this season. The beer will be called Farmhouse Red Ale, a sour-style beer. This isn't the usual type of beer that you find at a baseball game. Look for it this year when the Rockies return to LoDo this Spring. Read more in the full article on Westword.

Session Beer Day (April 7th) - Eric Steen of Focus on the Beer sent out this announcement: "Yesterday the beer blogosphere erupted when it was proposed that April 7th be dubbed as 'Session Beer Day'. The idea was started by Lew Bryson, author of The Session Project blog. Normally I wouldn't get behind something like this but beers that are 4% and under are something that I've been hoping we could see more of in the future and I'm hoping this day might raise some awareness that true sessionable beers should be a part of our regular drinking vocabulary. So I'm sending this email asking for you to participate. I have more information here." - If you are a brewery, please consider making up a 4% or below beer (I know there's barely any time to do this, it's not my fault the date was chosen with such short notice!) and make it known you are doing this so local bars can order your beer. If you are a bar, order beer that is 4% or below and tell your customers what's up. If you're a bottle shop, consider a display or promotion of beers that are 4% or less.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - more news from Funkwerks today, they plan on releasing their new beer "White" tomorrow, March 21st. They bill it as the perfect beer to welcome in the first day of Spring. Stop in for a taste on E. Lincoln Ave in the tasting room.

New Colorado Beer Blogs - It came to my attention today that there are a couple of new Colorado beer blogs out there sharing the good news about the beer in this state and also write a bit about of homebrewing besides. Go check out: BrewHomer.com: from Ken Schauer from Colorado Springs, and also visit My Brothers Brew from Denver. They have a team of writers who go by the aliases of CraftyLady, DrunkWithPower and grist4brains. Welcome them!

Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - Word on the street says that if you show up to Eddyline Brewing today wearing shorts and sandals that you will get a pint for only $2!! It's a bit breezy and cool in the low 40s there today, so grin and bare it and get a nice discount!
