Colorado Beer NewsToday is Australia Day. It's a day to give the Aussies their due and celebrate the way they do things down under. How about some shrimp on the bar-b and a drink that reminds you of what's Australian for Beeya! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, March 26th, 2012.

High Hops Brewery and Brew Shop (Windsor) - Attention hop growers! With all this warm weather, your hop plants are bound to be sprouting up. Now is the time to start watering them and add some compost to the soil. Mother Nature is giving us all a nice head start to this year's growing season.

The Mayor of Old Town (Fort Collins) - Look for the Mayor to tap a keg of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA today. Better get it quick, this keg won't last long.

Crooked Stave Dual Bottle CarrierCrooked Stave (Denver) - Chad Yakobson and crew celebrated their 1st Cellar Reserve Membership release of their Blackberry Petite Sour this weekend - with events at both Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) and at Cured (Boulder). Black Bottle Brewery (Fort Collins) - Renovation is underway at their 5,000 square foot brewery location at 1605 South College Avenue in FoCo. They are planning to include a 50 seat outdoor patio. Right now, they plan on opening by late Summer this year. Stay tuned for more info on their progress.

Choice City Butcher & Deli (Fort Collins) - It's time to clean out their beer fridge to make way for new beers. Choice City is offering a bottle blowout! Today and Tuesday from 3pm to 6pm they are offering $1 bottle specials. Who knows what gems lie in the back of their fridge!

Rueben's Burger Bistro (Boulder) - Rueben's has greatly expanded their tap system. They just installed a brand new state of the art tap system and are now offering 42 taps of beer! 30 of these taps will be reserved exclusively for Belgian beers! The other 12 taps will be for Colorado only beers. They've stocked up on new proper glassware and have trained their staff on the fine points of serving these beers. Don't let the name fool you - this burger bistro is more than just food. This tap system was designed by Paul Olsen who also built the tap system at Tap & Handle (75 taps) in Fort Collins. Ska Brewing (Durango) - Calling all Homebrewers! Submit your best brews for the Fourth Annual Ska Brewing GABF Pro-Am Homebrewers Competition! The winning brewer will be invited to Ska Brewing in Durango, Colorado to help brew a commercial batch of their beer for release this fall AND entered in the Pro-Am category of the 2012 Great American Beer Festival. Ska will also provide the winner with a ticket for the members-only awards ceremony! In order to have your winning beer sent to the GABF, you must be an AHA member at the time of the competition.

Best Brewery You Never Heard Of - Colorado - we have a mission for you! Fermentedly Challenged has been recruited by the 2012 Beer Drinker of the Year J. Wilson to come up with a story about "The Best Brewery You Never Heard Of" in an upcoming series of nationally contributed articles to be featured on his blog in April. What we need from you is a nomination for a CO brewery in your neck of the woods that you feel is outstanding yet perhaps is not well known to the rest of the nation. Please add your nomination on our Facebook page. Winner will get a write-up by Fermentedly Challenged. Great Storm Brewing (Colorado Springs) - The doors opened for the Grand Opening of Great Storm Brewing Company in Denver this last weekend. The opening was well attended and looked to be standing room only. The raves about their beers have started coming in. Fan favorites included their Zwartbier, the IPA, the Rum Raisin Stout and their Belgian Strong ale. Stop by to check them out later this week. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays starting at 11:00pm and running to at least 9:00pm and later on weekends. Located at 204 Mount View Lane #3 in Colorado Springs.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) - While most of us here in Colorado enjoyed near 80 degree weather on the eastern slope this last weekend, New Belgium wants to remind you that there is still a lot of winter snow fun to be had this coming Saturday, March 31st up on the ski slopes at Loveland ski area. They will be hosting a mountain-wide Loveland Scavenger Hunt all day from 9am to 3pm. Get your costumes together and find hidden items on the slopes at Loveland. Proceeds from entry fees to towards Alliance for Sustainable Colorado. Details at

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - Colorado beer blog and Another Pint is hosting Meet the Brewer night this Friday, March 30th from 7pm to 10pm. This event will feature none other than Doug Odell. They'll have a couple classic Odell beers like the IPA, Myrcenary, and their first beer, back in 1989, 90 Shilling. They'll also have Footloose Golden Sour and Shenanigans, a couple beers you perhaps of not had before. You won't want to miss this event! Floodstage Ale Works (Brighton) - According to the forums at BeerAdvocate, Floodstage Ale Works is back brewing beer once again and have a Helles and Porter now available at their site. Stop in and try one. Located at: 170 S. Main Street in Brighton, CO.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Two new labels just got approved for Crabtree brews. The first is for Peachtree Cezanne Saison, described as: "... the second in four installments of our Saison Series. Following a traditional Belgian Farmhouse Ale approach, this Saison was brewed when the Palisade peaches were coming into harvest. One bushel of peaches was added to each Zinfandel wine barrel & aged for six months for your peachy enjoyment". The second label is for their upcoming "Woody B. Barley Wine Ale". This beer was brewed with Jeff Crabtree's homegrown Zeus, Fuggle, Cascade, Nugget & Centennial hops. A spicy, aromatic, and well-balanced barley wine ale aged in Pinot Noir barrels for a year. Look for these to debut in the near future.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - This Sunday marks another edition of the Littlest Big Beer Fest. This month it's all about barrel aged beers featuring nearly a dozen different barrel aged beers from a variety of Colorado, national and international breweries including: Odell Brewing, Dogfish Head, Upslope Brewing, Left Hand Brewing, Firestone Walker, Boulder Beer, Boulevard Brewing, Brouwerij Bavik, Brouwerij Verhaeghe and Dry Dock Brewing. Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - The brewers at Funkwerks are going to busy this week as they're going to have three back-to-back-to-back brew days! White will be brewed on Tuesday, Tropic King on Wednesday, and word on the street has it that a strong dark Belgian amber of sorts will be brewed on Thursday, which is set to be aged in red wine barrels for a number of months. They look forward to having plenty of beer available for you, both on draft and in bottle.

Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - Calling all Hop Heads! On Wednesday afternoon (around 4-ish) they need your beer tasting input! D&DB will be tapping 3 small-batch versions of their D&D IPA, each fermented with a different yeast strain. They'd like to know which of the 3 versions you think is the best for R&D purposes and what will soon become the new Dank IPA.
