Best Brewery You Never Heard Of - Last day to vote! Fermentedly Challenged has been recruited by the 2012 Beer Drinker of the Year J. Wilson to come up with a story about "The Best Brewery You Never Heard Of" in an upcoming series of nationally contributed articles to be featured on his blog Brewvana.net in April. What we need from you is a nomination for a CO brewery in your neck of the woods that you feel is outstanding yet perhaps is not well known to the rest of the nation. Please add your nomination on our Facebook page. Winner will get a write-up by Fermentedly Challenged. Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - Yesterday, Funkwerks released a new beer in their taproom! Alchemy is the newest (and most deceptive) beer on their lineup. Inspired by Belgian Tripels and Golden Strong ales. This light-hued Belgian style beer is well balanced and easy to drink, but be aware of it’s ABV sitting at 8.5%!

Voss Farms Colorado (Arvada) - The hops are really sprouting up with all this hot weather. They're watering them now because it is so dry. They've also replaced the wee fabric that was torn off in the big winds this winter and added compost and cow manure. Voss Farms is also adding low level (8-10 inches above hop crowns) 14 gauge wire along the rows in order to hand drip irrigation lines from them and also to use as the string tie point from the upper trellis cable. They still have hop rhizomes available to sell - $3/each or 10 for $25 with pick up at the farm. Contact vossfarmscolorado@yahoo.com.

Great Divide (Denver) - Join Great Divide this Saturday, March 31st from 5-7pm for Meet The Brewer at Lyons Den Wine and Spirits in Greenwood Village. One of their brewing superheroes, Bryan Brauer, will be on hand chatting about their handcrafted ales and lagers. Located at: 5332 DTC Boulevard in Greenwood Village.

BierWerks Brewery (Woodland Park) - They'll be having their Maibock beer coming out around May 1st. They also will have a new Hefeweizen out today (with luck). James will be brewing another round of Helles this week also. Still plenty of beer here! Come in and play the new bean bag/washer toss game they just bought for Bierwerks, some summer fun while you are outside drinking and taking in the sun.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) - Don't forget - Saturday, April 7th is Session Day - drink beers that are < 4.5% ABV this day! (#SessionDay on Twitter). Pateros Creek will be having $3 pitns of session ales all day long including: Old Town Ale, Car 21 and Remittance Ale. Live music on hand from 2pm to 4pm from Rosewood Divine. Tap and Handle (Fort Collins) - They may have been open for a while already this year, but this Sunday, April 1st (no foolin') will be their big Grand Opening party celebration. Stop by and check out their specials from the kitchen, talk with local beer reps and try one of their 75 different beers on tap. Beer will all be at happy hour prices all day long this Sunday. They open at noon. Located at: 307 S. College Avenue in Fort Collins.

New Brewery Coming - An anonymous tip told me the other day that a new brewery is headed for Denver, CO. Be on the lookout for Halcyon Brewing Company. They are targeting a Fall 2013 opening. That's a way's off but always good to hear that more breweries are coming to the state. They have a reserved website at: www.halcyonbrewing.com.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - There are a few dates that Grimm Brothers wants you to remember coming up. Ante Up for a Cure - March 31st (Saturday) and is a fundraiser to fight blood cancer. Stop by the taproom for details. Also they will be having a beer release for Rifraff on April 11th (Wednesday). This is their new Dunkelweizen - a fantastic spring wheat beer. And don't forget that the Taste of Loveland is scheduled for April 12th (Thursday). Grimm Brothers will be on hand pouring their beers. 6pm - 9pm - cost $35 a ticket.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - For a while now, Avery has made a special batch of their "Meph Addict" coffee stout for limited releases and wanted to use that name on a label. However, during a recent request to the TTB, they refused to grant a label based upon the name being too close to a drug reference. So, instead, Avery renamed the beer to "Tweak" and can now be sold via keg to select retailers. They will be tapping some for their weekly Friday taping this week at their Tap Room. Come get some as this powerful brew tends to move quickly.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - There are some new drinks coming up at the Yak & Yeti that they'd like you all to know about. How about a Bacon Maple Soda? A breakfast drink made according to the German Swineheitsgebot. To be released on Wednesday, April 4th at 4pm. As for beer, look for their West Coast Glutton DIPA to be on tap by Easter. Also coming just before Easter will be their Oaked Himalayan IPA and their GF Apple Ale, a gluten-free brew made with cider and sorghum. Then on Friday, April 13th at 4pm look for their Dark Belgian Strong aged on oak. On hand will be guest brewer Rick Bobbitt.

There's going to be a huge collection of brewery memorabilia being shown and for sale and a chance to talk with brewers about brewery history. Breweriana is a club dedicated to brewery collectibles and puts on a great show to boot.

Vine Street Pub & Brewery (Denver) - It's taken nearly 4 years, but at long last the Vine Street Pub can prepare to add "& Brewery" to it's moniker. As early as this Sunday, April 1st, Vine Street will begin brewing it's own beer on site. Vine Street will take over making 8 of Mountain Sun's standard brews and will free up their other locations to make more experimental batch beers. Their new brewhouse has a capacity for 5000 barrels a year.
