Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Cherish An Antique Day. In the craft beer world, this is a great day to bring out one of those beers you've been aging in your beer cellar and open it up and share it with friends. It may not take long for a beer to become an antique, but for many strong beers, age has a way of bringing out some of the best qualities in a beverage. And besides, its also the Colorado Rockies Home Opener today! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, April 9th, 2012.

Colorado Rockies (Denver) - Today is the official Home Opener for the Colorado Rockies in LoDo. Its almost like having a State holiday! The entire lower downtown will be buzzing once again filling the many fine drinking establishments around the ball park with thousands of fans. The game is already a sell-out, so if you don't have a ticket, you can always watch the game on some of the big screens in many of the area bars, restaurants and breweries. Welcome back Rockies! Game starts around 2:10pm Mountain time. Which LoDo spot is your favorite to grab a beer at?

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Make plans to drop by Grimm Brothers this week. On Wednesday, April 11th Grimm Brothers will be releasing a returning favorite - their Riffraff Dunkelweizen. The tapping starts at 6pm and will be available for a limited run this Spring. Stop in and try one.

Wynkoop Brewing Company (Denver) - Stop in today for their Rockies Buffet at the Koop. For $10 its all you can eat burgers & brats starting at 11am just for opening day. Fill up there, then head to the game just a short walk away.

Monday Specials (Colorado) - Got a case of the Mondays? Perhaps one of these specials might help. Head to one of these breweries for their weekly specials:
- Ska Brewing - happy hour Yoga at 5:30pm. 1 hr. of yoga + 1 pint after for $10.
- Bristol Brewing - $3 pints all day every Monday.
- Pike Peak Brewing - Firkin Mondays - brewed up by homebrewers.
- Dry Dock Brewing - 5:30pm to 6:30pm power hour - 25 cent wings.
- Renegade Brewing - Ryeteous Monday - $1 off pints of Ryeteous all day.
- Copper Kettle Brewing - Pub trivia - two rounds - 6pm and 7pm. Win a free round of beer!
- Phantom Canyon - Buy a beer and play free pool on Mondays.
- Palisade Brewing - Texas Hold'em night 6:30pm - free to play.
- Dillon Dam Brewery - bar only 9pm to close - pint night - $2.50 pints.

Voss Farms Colorado (Arvada) - Homebrewers - Like to grow your own hops? Voss Farms has just planted two rows of Mystery X Hops (unknown, but intriguing variety they found and had lab tested last year). Their rhizomes area is almost gone, but still have a few of all varieties left to sell still. See their Craigslist ad. They'll be adding some grass and clover seed to a couple bare hop row alleys and hope that the April shows come to get them started.

Glenwood Canyon BrewPub (Glenwood Springs) - Bring in your empty Glenwood Canyon Brewing Company growlers from now until Earth Day, April 22, 2012 and get entered to win FREE Brewery Merchandise!! Grand Prize is a $100 Gift Certificate to Glenwood's only Micro Brewery! Must be present on April 22nd to win Grand prize.

Asher Brewing Company (Boulder) - On Saturday, Steve Turner, one of the co-founders at Asher Brewing, announced that he has sold all his shares in Asher Brewing to Chris Asher and is leaving the business. He's now looking forward to a Summer busy with a new puppy and a new grandson, and consulting on a few projects up in Fort Collins. He stated that it was great to work with all of the terrific Asher staff, guests and draught accounts and wishes everyone well. Thanks to Steve for all his hard work at Asher Brewing.

Avery NineteenAvery Brewing (Boulder) - It's that time of year again when Avery Brewing puts out a special beer to commemorate another anniversary of brewing beer. This year, they are turning 19 and to celebrate they've brewed up a batch of Nineteen - a Belgian-style Tripel. Here's the lowdown according to the brewer: "Nineteen years of brewing could kind of get overlooked with the big 2-0 coming. But we will never forget 2011! Not only was it our largest growth year ever, but we also began designing our new brewing In excited anticipation of 20 years and the new brewery, we concocted this very traditional, yeast driven. Tripel. ‘Thanks to those folks (you know who you are) who have been such on integral part of our longevity and success! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, flaked oats, Belgian candy sugar, hops and an infamous Belgian yeast." - This beer will be bottled in May 2012 (750ml bottles) and weighs in around 8.23% ABV.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - It's opening day for the Rockies, and Odell Brewing will be hanging out at Falling Rock Tap House all day! Find their crew there and name the year that Odell Brewing Co started AND the year the Colorado Rockies started, and you could win a beer on them! Just another good reason to be in LoDo this afternoon.

Denver Beer Company (Denver) - In honor of opening day for the Rockies, Denver Beer Company will be opening at 10:30am today. Join them along with The Uber Sausage for their first Opening Day celebration. Go Rockies!

San Luis Valley Brewing (Alamosa) - Join SLV Brewing at the Brewery on Saturday, APRIL 28th from 6pm-close. Don Richmond & The Rifters will be playing, and SLVB will be donating a $1/pint of beer sold to the La Puente Shelter Fundraiser for the Foob Bank Networks of the San Luis Valley, and there will be a ton of awesome auction items to bid on. Stop in today and try some of their new Sangre (Red) Wheat beer that was released over the weekend.

Rails and Ales Festival (Alamosa) - Tickets are now on sale for the 4th annual Rails & Ale festival via the Rio Grand Scenic Railroad. The date for this is Saturday, June 23rd. Tickets range from $69 up to $169 depending on ticket class. Over 20 breweries, live music and a great scenic train ride. This event will sell out fast!

Freshcraft (Denver) - They're opening up at 11am and for the Colorado Rockies home opener Chef Lucas and his crew cranked out a huge batch of giant foot long German style bratwurst. They're serving them on a locally baked artisan bun slathered in mustard & topping them with caramelized onions and kraut. These brats are perfect with a beer or two on your way to the game. They'll wrap them up for you if you want to take them to the game too! (Yes, you can do that at Coors Field). Stop by on your way to the game! PS: You'll also get a 2 for 1 coupon for an Upslope Brewing Company Craft Lager valid with a game day Rockies ticket all season with every brat.

Meadery of the Rockies (Palisade) - Join MotR at the Blue Pig in Palisade on April 13th and 14th for the Palisade International Honeybee Festival. They will be pouring free samples of their meads at this event. Check out the event on Facebook.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - The beer blog is hosting another Meet the Brewer night at Another Pint in Colorado Springs this Friday, April 13th at 7pm. This time you can meet Gordon Schuck, brewer from Funkwerks. He'll be on hand to talk about his beers (the Saisons) and you'll get a chance to sample up to 5 of their beers including: Saison, White, Tropic King, Belgian Stout and Alchemy.

Echo Brewing CompanyEcho Brewing Company (Frederick) - There's a new brewery opening this week in the town of Frederick, Colorado. Plan to hit up Echo Brewing Company on Saturday, April 14th at 2pm. They'll have 4 beers available on opening day including an ESB, an IPA, a Kolsch and an Irish Red. Get $3 opening day beers. The Oskar Blues Bonewagon will be on hand outside providing some great food to go with that beer. The brewery is located at: 5969 Iris Parkway in Frederick. Take I-25 to the Hwy 199 (Diagonal Hwy) exit and go east to Colorado Blvd. Then head south about 3.3 miles to Iris Parkway and go west on that til you hit the brewery. Fermentedly Challenged might just see you there!

Lucky Pie (Louisville & Denver) - Today at their LoDo location, Lucky Pie will be hosting Avery Brewing Company on their patio - just 4 blocks from Coors Field. Stop in for some of Avery's Lilikoi Poi Passion Fruit White Rascal - it's the only place you can get this brew today. Stop by and say hi to the Avery gang before (or during) the game.

Star Bar (Denver) - Speaking of Opening Day activities - Star Bar in downtown Denver is hosting New Belgium today and is hosting a remote release of the new Shift Pale Lager. If you're not at the game, come by and try one.

Hops & Berries South (Fort Collins) - The official Grand Opening date for the 2nd Hops & Berries homebrew store has been set for the weekend of April 20,21,22. They will be offering up FREE homebrewing classes all weekend long. Stop by their new place at: 8133 E. Harmony Road Unit 16 in Fort Collins. The new phone number is: (970) 493-2484.
