Colorado Beer NewsToday is 4/20 Day. It's a day where many, particularly college students, choose to light up and gather together in large groups and make a case for the legalization of their beloved weed and be happy. Best stay away from the CU-Boulder campus today. If you choose to participate, just remember, tomorrow is 4/21, a day known as Surprise Random Drug Test Day. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, April 20th, 2012.

Lowry Beer GardenLowry Beer Garden (Denver) - Progress is coming along well on the new indoor / outdoor beer garden next to the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum. The roof over the open air pavilion was recently installed and they are just a few weeks from completion - just in time for the summer season. Check out their progress on their Facebook page: The Lowry Beer Garden will be nestled in its very own park with more than 4,500 square feet of outdoor garden area, vast open-air seating, and an inviting covered pavilion. The communal Oktoberfest-style picnic tables that collectively can accommodate up to 350 guests, will foster an environment of community and conviviality. The Garden will offer a thoughtful draft and bottled beer selection with a focus on Colorado and handcrafted brews. The Lowry Beer Garden also serves up your favorite casual fare with locally-made gourmet brats & sausages, freshly-baked pretzels, house-ground burgers, hand-cut fries and chef-created salads. Lowery Beer Garden is located at: 7577 E. Academy Boulevard in Denver. Stay tuned for details on it's opening.

Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - The Meltdown is on and Steamworks has some hot licks in store at the brewpub today. $1.00 draws from 3-6pm. You might even win a keg of beer. Can you think of a better way to roll into this fabulous weekend? Jeff Scroggins and the Colorado will take the stage at 5:30pm NO COVER.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - Are you ready for 2012 Samael's Oak Aged Ale? So is Avery. This fallen angel is ready to demonize your pallet on April 26th at 6:30 pm. They'll be hosting a vertical tasting as well as some tasty desserts in their Barrel Aging Cellar. Tickets are $20 and available at the Avery Brewing Tap Room. SouthWest Arbor Fest (Grand Junction) - Colorado Brewers Guild sponsored - Join in for the Colorado Beer Expo at the SW Arbor Fest in Grand Junction on April 21st, 2012. Sample 40 beers from 20 different Colorado Breweries while tasting some of the best red and green chilies on the Western Slope at the 11th annual chili and salsa competition. The 11th annual Southwest Arbor Fest, Grand Junction's favorite spring festival, is a great way to get your taste buds into action with the chili and salsa competition. All ages can visit the arts and craft booths, enjoy live music, experience the amazing touch-a-truck, enjoy yummy food, and have fun!

Breckenridge Ale House Brew Fest (Grand Junction) - Join in with eight Colorado Brewers Guild member breweries at the 8th Annual Breckenridge Ale House in beautiful Grand Junction Colorado. It takes place on April 21st from 5-9:30 pm. Just $15 for some of the finest Colorado beers and plenty of great local music. Proceeds will benefit the Colorado Brewers Guild. Confirmed breweries include: Breckenridge Brewery Palisade Brewing, Kannah Creek Brewing, Left Hand Brewing, Bristol Brewing, Oskar Blues, Rockslide Brew Pub, and Steamworks Brewing.

Funk n Wild Beer Club Meeting (Longmont) - There's a new beer club at Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids & Solids in Longmont. It is called Funk n Wild and focuses on wild/sour/funky beer. The first meeting is Saturday April 21st at 3pm in the upstairs of HMLS. They will be pouring beers from New Belgium, Crooked Stave, Funkwerks, Strange and more! The featured speaker in Eric Salazar from New Belgium! It's free for anyone who wants to come hang and hear and talk about these awesome styles of beer! There will also be special food pairings available. No tickets, no space limits.

Cranknstein (Fort Collins) - At 4:20pm today, Cranknstein will be tapping the Firestone Walker and Nectar Ale's Hemp Ale. It's one way to legally celebrate the day, provided you're 21+.

Vine Street Pub & Brewery (Denver) - It's Vine Street Pub and Brewery's 4th Birthday today! They're having a party and you're invited! Stop by at 4:20 for their anniversary party and a special beer tapping of the Capital City Saison! Free show from By All Means Band and all proceeds benefit Judi's House!

High Hops Brewery constructionHigh Hops Brewery (Windsor) - The new brewery building is quickly taking shape. Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - Those cans get around! Cans of Eddyline Brewing's Crank Yanker IPA are now being sold in stores in New Mexico. If you are in the ABQ area look for them.

Colorado Boy Brewery (Ridgway) - Today, 4/20, is also known as Black Friday at Colorado Boy. It marks the debut of their new Black IPA! Come on over to Ridgway and try out a pint!

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Got the munchies today? Head on over to the Tasty Weasel tap room at Oskar Blues today at 4:20pm for some "Toked Pig". It's a nice big roasted pig and while you're there check out their Friday firkin: Vanilla Bean Oaked Chub. What could be better?

UNC Jazz Festival (Greeley) - Come to Greeley for the annual jazz fest. The largest event of its kind in the nation, the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival brings together internationally recognized artists, jazz lovers, award-winning clinicians, and over 275 college, high school, and middle school big bands, combos, and jazz vocal groups from across the country. Each year, over 7,500 participants enjoy the main stage concerts, after-hours sessions, daytime performances, and the many educational workshop sessions. Tonight at Syntax (right next door to Crabtree Brewing) listen to Floof and the Time Bandits. Lots of other groups performing in various venues around Greeley - April 20 + 21st. Beer Lovers of Fort Collins (Meetup Group) - Want to join up with a group of beer lovers every couple of weeks to socialize and drink beer at various places around Fort Collins? Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - Odell Brewing put out a new video promoting their upcoming Small Batch Festival on May 26, 2012. Over 20+ Odell Beers on tap and lots of live music. Fun for all. If you can't see the video below, watch it on YouTube.

American Craft Beer Radio (102.3FM Denver) - Join Gary V and his guests "live" this Saturday at Copper Kettle Brewing Company, for day three of their 1st anniversary. They're doin' overtime this week going from 11am until 1pm. They'll be great food, great beer several guests and some prizes to give away. Don't miss this party live at 11am Saturday the 21st at Copper Kettle Brewing and on 102.3 ESPN.

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) - Today Arvada Beer is releasing their first Farmhouse ale "Saison de Davis", made with Barley, Oats, Rice and Wheat. They added Curacao, orange and Pink peppercorns into the boil. This beer is 7.1% abv and has 26 IBU's. Growler fills are available.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - Announcing new, extended hours for the tap room and they'll be open on Sundays! Starting this Sunday Upslope will be open from 12pm-7pm every Sunday and they're tacking on an extra hour to Tuesdays - Saturdays. The new hours will be Tuesday - Thursday 2pm-9pm, Friday & Saturday 2pm-10pm, and Sunday 12pm-7pm. Upslope will still offer "happy day" with a dollar off all beers every Tuesday. Try a Belgian Style Pale Ale while you're there. Now in cans!

Hops & Berries South (Fort Collins) - Today is the day - the new 2nd homebrew supply store opened today at 1833 E. Harmony Road in Fort Collins. Come check out the new east-side location for your homebrewing needs.
