Colorado Beer NewsWe're back! Today is May Day. As the song says: "It's May, it's May, the lusty month of May". It's related to the Celtic festival of Beltane and the Germanic festival of Walpurgis Night. Both are known for their raucous celebrations. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, May 1st, 2012.

Gnarly Barley Brew Festival (Loveland) - PRESALE STARTS TODAY! The regular sale begines Saturday, May 5th. The festival will be held on August 4th, 2012 starting at 1:00pm at The Ranch in Loveland.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Special Tuesday offer - all beers at $3 a pint today. What could be better? Stop in and say hi to Steph - she's working the bar tonight. It's gonna be a beautiful 80 degree day - you're gonna need a brew to stay cool.

Rueben's Burger Bistro (Boulder) - Come celebrate Rueben's 2nd Anniversary on Wednesday, May 2nd. Get $1 off all draft beers all day long. They have 42 draft beers on tap just for the occasion. Come taste an Ovila Dubbel and for the first time in the U.S. try a Unibroue Ephemere Cassis on draft. There will be TONS of shwag available from your favorite breweries. Kevin Baity Kraft Beer (Colorado Springs) - Stop by the brewery today for the debut of their Green Fiend Double IPA - it's going on tap at 4pm. Take home a growler if you are so bold!

Patrick's Irish Pub (Greeley) - In celebration of their new business hours on Saturday (now open at 2:00pm) - get a FREE PITCHER of microbrew if you're one of the first four groups of four or more people to stop by the pub. Check out live music from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturdays. This week, listen to the Jon Lewis Jazz Trio.

Eddyline Boater BeerEddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - Eddyline visited Ball Canning to finalize the can design of their new 16oz Boater Beer - the official pilsner of PaddleFest! Check out the new look! (Image courtesy of Eddyline Brewing).

Crystal Springs Brewing Company (Boulder) - The Kitchen [Next Door] has their Black Saddle Russian Imperial Stout on tap. Once that keg is finished, they'll have Doc's American Porter on tap. CSBC also has a new release out that is on tap at The Kitchen Upstairs. Its a traditional wheat beer - no frills, no fruit - just wheat and barley called Angel Wheat. You can purchase Angel in 12 ounce 6 packs from Alfalfa's, Cured, and North Boulder Liquor. They also just bottled more Summertime Ale and you can find it at Alfalfa's, Boulder Wine Merchant, Cured, and North Boulder Liquor right now! And, they're getting really, really close to having it out in 16 ounce cans!

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - Recent news: GF Apple Ale will be a new flagship beer. La Bhutan - a Belgian Blonde Ale will be around for a few more weeks as will their German Bock - "Yakety Yak, Don't Talk Bock". Coming soon, look for: White IPA, Grain Floor Porter, Yak's RIS (Russian Imperial Stout), Yeti Saison, and a Belgian Cherry Ale. Lots of new brew to look forward to at the Yak & Yeti!

Great Storm Brewing (Colorado Brewing) - They’re mixing up their lineup a bit for the spring and will have their Get Buzzed Honey Ale on tap. This is a light, fresh ale made with honey malt and 20% local Colorado Springs wildflower honey for a flowery nose and a touch of honey flavor; it comes in at about 6% ABV. They’re also going to start offering a guest tap or two and their first beer is from CAUTION: Brewing Company up in Denver. They’ll be offering their Honey Matrimony, which is a honey brown ale with a rich mahogany color and nice caramel and malt notes.

BierWerks Brewery (Woodland Park) - Their Maibock beer will be available tonight and their May Day celebration starts @ 5:30pm, Dancers and food! Come join your friends and make new ones at BIERWERKS!

Kokopelli Beer Company (Westminster) - The floor plan is complete and the pilot system has been ordered. Now the main focus is on the business plan so that they can finalize everything, sign the lease and order the production equipment and make beer. The plan is to have six house beers, a rotational and a seasonal to compliment the lineup of taps. Recently the owner had the opportunity to sit and discuss beer and business with Jim Koch, the owner of Samuel Adams. She said that he is not only a very nice gentlemen but definitely interesting to sit and listen to. Mr. Koch has the ambition to help the small guy achieve their dreams and has proven this time and time again. This was an opportunity that was not only beneficial but memorable as well. Stay tuned for more news on this upcoming brewery as it unfolds.

Oskar Blues ChakaOskar Blues (Longmont) - At long last, Oskar Blues will debut their newest CANlaboration with Sun King Brewery called Chaka on Thursday, May 3rd. It's packaged in the new 16oz RE-SEALABLE CAN! Fermentedly Challenged got a sample bottle today in the mail (shown here). Check out the press release for all the latest details on this release.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - Beer and Art go together! Funkwerks is celebrating the first of the month by welcoming a new artist, Ian Cochrane, into their taproom. Stop by to get a beer and check out his colorful paintings.

Gore Range Brewery (Edwards) - Their new bar renovation is coming along nicely and it's looking great. Stop in and check it out sometime this week. They will re-open tomorrow for lunch.

Ale House at Amato's (Denver) - On Saturday, May 5th at 1pm - it's their Second Annual Kentucky Derby Party! This year they are going big, as in big hats and big cans! Ska Brewing will release their Mexican Logger in honor of Cinco de Mayo while you all dress up in our finest big hats to watch the race and donate a portion of proceeds to Dumb Friends League, Harmony Equine Center. There will be prizes for best dressed and best hat...and a chance to win FREE BEER for a MONTH from Breckenridge Brewery!! Are you excited yet? Quick... go get a big hat!

Rackhouse Pub (Denver) - Rackhouse Pub owner Chris Rippe spent some time at the AC Golden Brewery working with their brewers to formulate two special Rackhouse Pub Sour Blend Beers. It will debut on May 5th, 2012 during the AC Golden Tap Takeover at the Rackhouse Pub. Check out the tap list for this unique event.

National Homebrew Day (Nationwide) - More than 1 million Americans participate in the homebrewing hobby, and on Saturday, May 5th, many of them will gather to brew two special beer recipes to recognize National Homebrew Day with Big Brew. In 1988, May 7th was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world. AHA Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May. Big Choice BrewingBig Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - This weekend is the Grand Opening of Big Choice Brewing - May 4th - 6th. They open their doors at 4:00pm on Friday, May 4th. You'll get $1 off all pints from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The OB Bonewagon will be parked outside as well. Then they'll be back open at 11:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday and feature a FREE BBQ DAY from 11am to 4pm. The kids can enjoy a bouncy castle from 11am - 4pm. $1 off pints from 4pm to 6pm. City Star BrewingCity Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Another brewery opening this weekend on May 4th with a party lasting all weekend! City Star Brewing will have it's grand opening this weekend as well. They'll be open from 2pm to 9pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be 6 beers on tap, some Giveaways, Tastings and Tours available. Beers on tap this weekend will include Cowboy's Double Golden, 6-Shooter IPA, Red Necktar (hoppy American red ale), Bandit Brown, Raspberry Bandit (brown ale fermented with puréed fresh raspberries) and the Night Watchman Stout. Live music on Sunday at 3pm from Aaron McCloskey & Alex Johnstone. Berthoud's own food truck - The Giggling Greek - will be on site during the grand opening.
