Oskar Blues (Longmont) - The fast growing Longmont brewery announced today plans to open up a new restaurant and brewery in North Carolina by the end of December 2012. The location will be in Brevard, NC. The new venue will also host live music similar to their locations here in Colorado. US Postal Service (Washington DC) - A new bill that would legally allow the mailing of beer and wine through the US Postal Service is making it's way through legislation. The bill has already passed the Senate and is heading for the House of Representatives for passage later this month. For those of you who have mailed beer via the USPS before, consider yourselves lucky. It wasn't legal before. But soon, it may be.

Anheuser-Busch (Fort Collins) - Not that it's craft beer news, but it does affect Colorado. Sales of the new Bud Light Platinum are doing well enough that A-B is expanding production of the brew to more production facilities, including the one in Fort Collins, Colorado starting in June. Nuff said.

Twisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - The rumors were circulating and now it is apparently true. Twisted Pine has just received label approval for a new beer called: "Roots Revival - Carrot IPA". Yup, you heard right, an India Pale Ale with carrots. This beer will be part of their new "FARM to FOAM" series. Farm to Foam is Twisted Pine's tribute to the sustainable spirit of Colorado. Supposedly all of the ingredients in this beer come from Colorado. This beer is in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Boulder County Farmers Market. Look for this beer to hit shelves in 750ml bottles soon. I can hear it now - "Doh! I coulda had a Carrot IPA!" - In other news, look for Big Easy Offbeat Brown to be released on May 5th at 12pm at the brewery.

This year’s Collusion was brewed with Colorado honey, Rocky Mountain snow, and asian pear juice and will be available on draft only starting May 14th. On tap right now is Woody, an amber American strong Ale. Coming soon is their Wheat Wine in bombers and on draft. It's ripe with the flavors of summer fruit and caramel.

Colorado Craft Beer Facts - Craft brewing equals about 4.6 percent of all beer brewed in Colorado, but of the 6,600 brewery-related jobs in the state, 4,200 involve craft beer. The federal excise tax on beer originally was collected to pay for the Civil War. However, the tax has never been repealed. In 2011, Colorado brewers paid about $100 million in federal, state and local taxes. Just more than 10 percent of Colorado craft brewers export their product internationally. The Front Range is the largest craft-brewing market in the United States, with 74 breweries in operation. Durango ranks first for breweries in the nation per capita, with one brewery for every 3,480 people. (Re: Durango Herald and the Colorado Brewers Guild)

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - This Saturday, May 5th, marks the 6th Anniversary for the Crabtree Brewing Company! Due to an overwhelming amount of UNC graduation events this weekend… they are postponing any 6-year celebrations as well as a new beer release until later this month. BUT… they would still love to see you. Both Jeff and Steph will be here pouring beers on Saturday so please stop in and grab a pint. Jeff will break out a few hidden beers to share as well. They will also have a fun poster for you to sign and share your favorite Crabtree memory.
