Ska Brewing's 17th Anniversary to host Reel Big Fish

Reel Big FishDURANGO, COLO., (May 2, 2012) —Too often 17th birthdays are lost between the hype of “sweet 16”, and the looming, adult-ish responsibilities of 18.

“Sixteen is usually a big deal because you can drive, but the brewery is just too big to be on the road,” said Ska President and Co-founder Dave Thibodeau. “So this is probably our brewery’s most important birthday so far, because it marks the last year that most judges won’t charge it as an adult.”

In honor of such a significant milestone, Ska is thrilled to announce that California ska-punk rockers Reel Big Fish will headline their 17th Anniversary Party and Brewers Invitational. The party will be September 8, 2012, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Ska Brewing World Headquarters in Durango, Colorado. More than 20 breweries from the Four Corners region and around the West will be in attendance, most pouring special edition or limited-release beers.

From their self-released 1995 debut Everything Sucks, (released the same year Ska Brewing began operations), to the follow-up album Turn The Radio Off, which spent 32 weeks on the Billboard Charts, Reel Big Fish has brought the horns and syncopation of third-wave ska music to millions of fans around the globe. Their recent tour of South America, another 30 dates around the U.K. and Europe earlier this year, and a planned U.S. summer tour in support of a new album make it clear that Reel Big Fish is a hell of a catch for a little summer birthday bash—even one with 20-plus breweries attending.

“I don’t really know how we got them,” said Ska Co-founder and Overlord of Brewing Operations Bill Graham. “We went to see them play in Denver, had some beers with them afterwards and stayed in touch. What I do know is that this party is a big ‘Thank You’ to our friends, fans and customers, and it’s going to be a lot of fun to bring Reel Big Fish to Durango for that.”

The $25 ticket includes entrance into the event—which sold out last year—a commemorative tasting glass, and beer samples from more than 20 of Colorado's and the Four Corners region’s finest breweries—along with a few from more distant locales. Guest breweries include: Avery Brewing, Boulevard Brewing, Breckenridge Brewery, Bristol Brewing, Carver Brewing, Durango Brewing, Left Hand Brewing, Marble Brewery, New Belgium Brewing, Oskar Blues Brewery, Ouray Brewery, Pagosa Brewing, San Luis Valley Brewing, Santa Fe Brewing, Santan Brewing, Steamworks Brewing, Stone Brewing, Telluride Brewing, Three Barrel Brewing.
