Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Flip Flop Day. Forget your usual work shoes. Toss them aside and throw on your old comfortable pair of flip flops today and let your feet have a summer holiday. And Dads, it's the perfect way to start your Fathers Day weekend. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, June 15th, 2012.

Arvada Beer Company (Arvada) - They've still got some of their Apricot Golden Ale on tap. Dennis made 15 gallons and they'll have it on tap at 11am when they open. It'll be Happy Hour until 3:00pm. Stop on down and try the Apricot Golden while it lasts.

Colorado Brewers' Festival (June 23-24) - Hey homebrewers! Cool beer presentations are being made this year in Fort Collins at the festival including on Sunday at 2:00pm Old Town Spice Shop is talking about how to brew with spices! It is at the Experience Beer Tent and is included in all entrance tickets! Get yours today here.

Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) - It's Falling Rock's 15th Anniversary! In honor of that milestone, owner Chris Black posted a big 10-day long schedule of special events from today, June 15th through June 24th. There's an event for just about every beer lover. Steamworks Brewing (Durango) - Their new and improved courtyard bar is now open for business as of last night. Stop in and cool off with a cold one. Get the feeling of being outdoors with plenty of shade!

Freshcraft (Denver) - On Wednesday, July 18th from 5pm to 8pm - join in at Freshcraft for their annual seasonal Food & Beer Pairing Dinner celebrating Summer. Chef Lucas and his team have come up with a delightful menu focusing on flavors of Summer and paired them with some great beer. Tickets available here. There will be a maximum of 40 tickets sold with seatings every half hour from 6:00 pm through 8:00 pm - select your preferred seating time when making your purchase. Tip not included in the ticket price. Educated staff & brewery representatives will be on hand to speak about the beer and why each course was developed to complement it. Edward's Pipe & Cigar Shop (Fort Collins) - Tonight at the shop, there will be a special kickoff to Summer / Father's Day Parking Lot Party starting at 4pm and running until Midnight. They will be featuring Alec Bradley Cigars and also hosting a Funkwerks Brewery beer tasting. Live music will be on hand with The Tome Barbour Trio. There will be a complimentary BBQ dinner with your cigar event purchase. For more info visit their website. Look for other monthly beer & cigar events coming up this summer like their cigar & beer pairing dinner with Odell Brewing Company on July 15th. Edward's is located at 111 W. Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - An upcoming beer release for their Briar Rose, a Munich-style Helles, on June 20th will help raise funds for the American Red Cross. $1 for every pint purchased will go to help the victims of the High Park Fire. Ride The Rockies (Fort Collins) - The Denver Post Ride The Rockies Bicycle Tour is revising the route for the sixth and final stage of the 2012 tour due to issues brought on by the High Park fire. The route for Friday, June 15th will begin in Estes Park and end at Odell Brewing Company as originally planned. The route between the two points has been adjusted so that cyclists will now travel further east before heading north to Ft. Collins. Some of the roads originally planned for the sixth stage have been closed due to the fire, necessitating this revision. Ride The Rockies management has been in close contact with Larimer County, City of Ft. Collins and City of Loveland officials as well as Colorado State Patrol regarding the fire and our best options. Come watch the big finish today at Odell Brewing Company. Due to parking issues, you are encouraged to walk or bike to the brewery. Sorry, no brewery tours today.

Colorado BBQ Challenge (Frisco) - The town of Frisco takes BBQ to a whole new level with the 19th Annual Colorado Barbecue Challenge June 14-16, 2012. This Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned event attracts more than 60 teams from across the country to compete for top honors as the best BBQ'er in the Rockies. Attendees will enjoy many activities, including pig races, a 5K Bacon Burner run, live music, an exclusive chef demo and a private Breckenridge Distillery whiskey tour with the winning barbecue teams. This year, the Colorado Barbecue Challenge will offer even more outdoor fun with the first Bacon Burner, a 5K run on Saturday, June 16th at 9:30 a.m. Registrants will receive a signature Barbecue Challenge t-shirt and a beer coupon to use during the event. There are plenty of activities for all ages, and with free admission, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy barbecue. Attendees can purchase hog-backs, Frisco’s BBQ currency, to pay for food and drinks (BEER!) and use them at participating retail stores and restaurants along Main Street. Backcountry Brewery will be one of several breweries pouring beers for the event. Info:

Colorado Craft Beer Show (AM 760 12-2pm Saturdays) - Big show for tomorrow! Turk and the Gubna welcome guests Carol and Mike from Beer Drinker's Guide to Colorado, Jesse Lundrohlf from The West End Tavern, Doug Hyndman from Dry Dock Brewing Company, Nicol Winkler from the Crafty Ladies Beer Club @HTB and Bess Dougherty who is the first female brewer at Wynkoop Brewing Co.! They will have some nice giveaways too including tickets to the Hops for Habitat event at the Plains Conservation Center. Then next week on June 23rd their show will be held at Zamparelli's Italian Bistro in Lafayette, CO. During the day, 10% of their sales will be donated to the American Red Cross High Park Fire relief and donations for beer will go to the same cause. More info.

San Luis Valley Brewing (Alamoso) - Rally in the Valley - Bikes and Brews for a good cause in Monte Vista this weekend at the Ski Hi Stampede grounds. Join San Luis Valley Brewing on June 15-16, Friday & Sat. from 5pm-12 midnight at their Beer Trailer and check out 100's of great Harley's and raise money for a skate park for the youth in Monte. Then on Friday, June 22nd from 7pm to 12am - The City of Alamosa is letting them shut down the corner of Main St. & San Juan Ave. and have some fun welcoming the 25 Rails & Ales Breweries, and 100's of Rodeo Cowboys to town! Enjoy EVERYTHING THAT RISES starting at 6pm outside on the City Stage, Outdoor Beer Garden from 7pm-midnight, and PEDRO & THE PISTONS from 8pm-11:00pm. Outdoor sales benefit the Alamosa Chamber of Commerce, so come have a blast and help grow our downtown!

Crooked Stave (Denver) - A reminder to their Cellar Reserve Members, the 2nd release for 2012 for Persica will take place this weekend. At Falling Rock Tap House on June 16th and at Backcountry Pizza & Tap House on June 17th. Additional bottles must have been purchased ahead of time as they are not allowed to sell bottles at this pick-up event. Pick-ups can be done between 11am and 3pm each day.

Boulder Beer Company (Boulder) - The good folks over at Boulder Beer put together a video showing us a bit about their brewing process. Check out the video here or on YouTube.

Downtown Greeley - Tonight is another Go Cup Friday on the downtown plaza. Come up to Greeley tonight between 5pm and 10pm for more open air walking around fun with Go Cups (open liquor policy). Tonight - Stampede Kickoff with Luke and the Cool Hands.

Ska Brewing (Durango) - During the recent LA International Commercial Beer Competition, Ska Brewing took home 4 awards! A Gold for their Buster Nut Brown, a Gold for their Nefarious Ten Pin, a Silver for their Steel Toe Stout, and a Silver for their True Blonde. Grats on these big honors!
