Colorado Beer News 070612

Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Kissing Day. Originally started in the United Kingdom, it's a day to remind yourself of the simple pleasures associated with kissing for kissing's sake. Whether you choose to kiss the one you love or simply an old friend, give a kiss today to someone you're fond of and make their day (and perhaps yours as well). Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, July 6th, 2012.

Colorado Beer News is continually updated during the day (10am to 3pm) with new stories as they break, so stop back here often for all the latest. If you'd like to subscribe to this daily by email, sign-up here.

The Pub Dialogues (Denver) - It's time once again for another round of The Pub Dialogues. Each month, people get together at a designated Denver pub or brewery and talk about an important topic of mutual concern. This month, the topic is Congress. How is Congress doing? What do they need to do? Are you being represented? Discuss these questions and more during the Pub Dialogues at Pints Pub and Free House on July 16th, 5:30-8pm. Facilitators from OvalOptions will keep groups on topic, civil and engaged. Grab a real ale and join the conversation! It's free to participate; please support local pubs! For more info on The Pub Dialogues, visit their website.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Today is Firkin 1st Friday at Hops & Pie in Denver and featured today is Old Man Bitter - based on Ska Brewing's Modus Hoperandi. A mix of citrus & pine that will remind you of the time you wnet on a vision quest & woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees. This special firkin taps at 6:00pm. Then mark your calendars for Sunday July 22nd at 2pm for this month's Littlest Big Beer Fest. This month featuring the beers of Firestone Walker. Taste Parabola, Wookey Jack, Double DBA, Double Jack and Solace.

Great Storm Brewing (Colorado Springs) - The brewery is offering up a Facebook coupon highlighting their July lunchtime special. During July 2012, print off their Facebook coupon, bring it in along with your lunch to the brewery (or have it delivered there). If you buy any two pints, you'll get a coupon for a third pint free, to be used at any time. This offer is valid only between 11:00am and 2:00pm Wednesdays through Fridays each week during July 2012.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - Upslope Brewing Company will be hosting a women’s beer night on July 9th from 5:30-8:00 PM. The event is designed for women to learn, discuss and broaden their craft beer knowledge. You’ll meet fellow beer loving ladies, tour the brewery and pair beer with Boulder’s own Cured wine & cheese shop. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support Front Range Rescue Dogs. Tickets are $15 or 2 for $25. Tickets are going fast on EventBrite, click here to register! This event returns again on Monday, August 6th.

Speculation on Beer Prices - With the record heat and drought affecting the entire state of Colorado (over 70% of the state is categorized in extreme drought), speculation is that crop yields this year will be well below last years totals. A shocking 62 of Colorado's 64 counties now qualify for federal disaster relief due to drought conditions. We can expect to see less malt and hops available from Colorado farms for local breweries this year and therefore resulting in higher local beer prices in the coming months. How much more will you be willing to pay for a 6-pack of your favorite craft beer?

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - The craft beer in the can brewery is now offering up a new canned product - B. Stiff & Sons Old Fashioned Root Beer. This root beer will be packaged in the resealable 16oz Ball Alumi-Tek "bottles". This is the same package that their Chaka Belgian-style ale collaboration beer was packaged in. Knowing that Oskar Blues is also getting into the distillery / whiskey business, perhaps we can look forward to seeing their new whiskey product heading to the same type of packaging.

Breckenridge Brewery (Denver) - Tomorrow, July 7th, officially marks the 22nd anniversary of Breckenridge Brewery and they are hosting a party at the brewery from 11:00pm to 6:00pm, and for $22 a ticket, you can join in the fun. Your ticket will get you into a party with 3 live bands, unlimited Breckenridge beer (firkins, limited releases and never released beers) and a Pig Roast. Joining in will be a live remote of the Colorado Craft Beer Show broadcasting from 12 noon to 2:00pm. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets or at the tasting room.

Clockwork Brewing Company (Aurora) - They weren't the first and they won't be the last, but this new wanna-be brewery is trying to raise $20,000 in funding to get their brewery plans moving with their own Kickstarter campaign. The brewery is still looking for a permanent location and hope to open for business (with the help of funding) in early 2013. They already have 4 regular beers planned including Bad Medicine Oatmeal Stout, Golden Spike Pale Ale, Scantily Clad Blonde Ale and Salinger Rye IPA.

KB Kraft Beer (Colorado Springs) - Today is their One Year Anniversary! To celebrate, they've come up with two new firkins today for your enjoyment. Stop by the brewery for a taste of their Amber Ale and their ESB. Located at: 3668 E. Bijou Street in Colorado Springs, CO. Open today from 4:00pm to 9:30pm.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - We knew it was coming sometime this week, and now it finally happened, Loveland Aleworks officially opened for business on Wednesday, July 4th! Their business hours are Monday through Thursday 2pm to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 12pm to 10pm, and Sundays 1pm to 5pm. Last week they hosted a BBQ/Beer pairing and offered a peek inside their brewhouse. Their final inspections passed and the doors came open just in time for the big holiday. Come by and visit them - Loveland's 4th brewery! They are located at 118 West 4th Street (just west of the railroad track).

Steamworks Brewing Company (Durango) - If you're in the Durango area today, stop in at Steamworks at 3pm. That's when they'll be tapping a special Firkin Friday - their Randy Shandy. They used their Hefeweizen as a base and added a mix of sugar, lemons, lemon zest and fresh ginger to make a unique lemonade brew. The result is a refreshing wheat beer with some citrus and spice. $1 draws and $2 tankers 'til she's kicked!

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) - As a special thanks to those who helped fight the High Park fire, Pateros Creek is hosting a "We Love Firefighters" night on July 10th from 7pm to 9pm. It's brewed with flaked oats and lactose milk sugar bringing a rounded, fuller-bodied taste. And also try their La Vie Haute Summer Saison now on tap as well. This summer Saison has an earthy citrus flavor with a hint of pepper. It's deceptively light-bodied and is sure to please.

On this day, you are encouraged to try either a new or revisit your old favorite India Pale Ales and toast to a friend about the big hoppy-style brew. Look for special events and drink specials from breweries and bars that day to help in the celebration. More info at: IPADay.org.

Paradox Beer Company (Woodland Park) - Despite all the recent wildfires, a new brewery is getting ready to open in Woodland Park, Colorado and it may be happening as early as the end of this month.
