Colorado Beer News 072012

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Moon Day, named to commemorate the first moon landing by Apollo astronauts on this day in 1969. It's a shame we no longer send people there. Hopefully someday we will go back and when we do, perhaps they'll bring beer with them. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, July 20th, 2012.

Colorado Beer News is continually updated during the day (10am to 3pm) with new stories as they break, so stop back here often for all the latest. If you'd like to subscribe to this daily by email, sign-up here.

Great Divide Brewing (Denver) - It's Firkin Friday at Great Divide. Today they've got an oaked Belgian Yeti cask called The Grassy knoll. Mysterious, dark and foreboding. The brew taps around 3:00pm.

#IPADay (August 2nd) - It's back for another year. It's IPA Day! Everyone is encouraged to try an India Pale Ale out at your favorite watering hole. Bring a friend (and perhaps a designated driver) and try one of craft beer's most notoriously hoppy brews. Then Tweet about it using hashtag #IPADay.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Their ladies-only beer club, the Can Can Girls, are planning a "Be Witty" event on Thursday, August 16th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Tasty Weasel Tap Room at the brewery. The perfect beers for hot summer days? Wits, wheats & fruit beers! THey'll feature a handful of beers from Oskar Blues and other local breweries, and serve 'em up with a small plate of goodies. Tickets available at:

Bootstrap Brewing (Niwot) - Due to the early hop crop coming in this year, Bootstrap and the hops from Niwot Hops are planning to do a fresh hop brew in early August. How are your hops doing at home this year? Are they surviving the heat? Up in the foothills and mountains they are doing great this year despite the lack of water.

Sad News (Aurora) - This morning we woke to the news of the tragic shootings at a movie theater early this morning in Aurora, Colorado during the premiere of the new Batman movie. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims and their families. Haven't the communities of Colorado endured enough already this year? We pray this madness stops and those responsible are brought to swift justice.

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) and Rockyard Brewing (Castle Rock) were busy collaborating this week on a Chili brew. Head brewers Jason (LTB) and Jim Stinson (RB) and others were busy mixing grain, roasted chilis and other ingredients to come up with a spicy brew that will soon be released in the coming weeks.

KB Kraft Beer (Colorado Springs) - It's Firkin Friday at KB Kraft Beer. Stop in today at 3pm for a pint of their Green Fiend Double IPA. It'll be a good warm up for the upcoming #IPADay.

Avery Brewing Company (Boulder) - Ladies, mark your calendar for this coming Thursday, July 26th at 6pm when Avery hosts: "Ladies Love Lupulin: A Guided Exploration of the Breadth of Hops" at the brewery. Join Avery for a guided exploration of hops, during which you'll learn to distinguish between citrusy, piney, grassy, and dank hop notes. Featuring exquisite brews such as Summer's Day IPA, The Maharaja Imperial IPA, and special guest beers!
