Steamworks expands brewpub with North Courtyard remodel

Steamworks Brewing CompanyPermanent feature offers a new bar and waiting area for restaurant patrons

DURANGO, Colo. – In an effort to satisfy its growing base of restaurant and bar patrons, Steamworks Brewing Co. has invested in a complete remodel of its North Courtyard, establishing it as a new bar and waiting area at the brewpub located at 801 E. 2nd Ave. in Downtown Durango.

Located between the historic brewpub building and the West Building, the North Courtyard in the past has been tented for casual functions and occasional spillover from the restaurant, but never completely finished. Today the area includes a permanent covering, featuring wood paneling, and formal bar (including taps) designed with the same contemporary, industrial feel featured in the rest of the brewpub. High top tables and chairs are included, adding seating for up to 70.

“Our purpose in making the investment was twofold,” said Kris Oyler, Steamworks co-founder. “We wanted to offer restaurant patrons waiting for a table for dinner somewhere other than the sidewalk to wait, and give them an opportunity to have a beer. Also, we wanted to give our regular local bar patrons a place they could drop in and relax during the busy summer season, have a beer and maybe an appetizer or pizza.”

The North Courtyard, open 4 to 10 p.m. daily, features its own menu, a trimmed down version of the main Steamworks dinner menu. Many regular dishes will be available, but not full entrees or the popular Cajun Boil.

“Folks will need a regular table for that,” added Oyler.

The build-out of the North Courtyard was completed by Shane Ferris and Ferris Construction, under direction of Steamworks’ Assistant General Manager Dave Woodruff.
“We’re really looking forward to making our guests more comfortable,” said Woodruff. “Because Steamworks is an historic building, we couldn’t take down any walls to expand. The old bricks make a nice backdrop for the new bar and add ambiance to the North Courtyard.”

Steamworks North Courtyard is also available for private parties for groups up to 80 in size.

The award-winning Steamworks Brewing Co. is located at 801 E. Second. Ave., Durango (970.259.9200). For further information, visit www.steamworksbrewing.com.
