Colorado Beer NewsToday is Colorado Day. It was 136 years ago today that Colorado became a state. Here's to the Centennial State! Everyone raise a glass of beer to toast Colorado today along with Governor Hickenlooper during the 7th inning stretch of today's Rockies game. Bars around the state will be tuned into the game so that patrons can join the toast as well. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, August 1st, 2012.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Headed to the Gnarly Barley Brewfest this Saturday? Look for Grimm Brothers booth. They'll be pouring Little Red Cap, Fearless Youth, The Griffin, and a Pro-Am Release. Plus, they will also tap hourly special releases and a firkin from their cellars, plus a never before attempted brewfest release you won't want to miss. They will also be giving away free beer tickets for Loveland's 1st official Oktoberfest celebration set to be held this fall in downtown Loveland. Stop by their Gnarly Barley booth and say hello.

Great Divide Brewing Company (Denver) - Did you know that Great Divide has a Sour Room? It's the brain child of their head brewer Taylor Rees. The GDBC Sour Program will bring the sort of nuance and balance you've come to expect in their current portfolio, but with a walk on the wild side. Look for announcements from this series all during the coming months. The first sours from their barrels should be ready by mid-2013. Great Divide will also be celebrating #IPADay tomorrow, August 2nd with Titan t-shirt giveaways, special #IPADay sampler flights, a dry-hopped Hercules firkin and Happy Hour pricing on all IPAs all day.

Cannonball Creek Brewery (Golden) - Move over Coors and Golden City Brewing, a new 7-bbl brewery is coming to town to tempt the taste buds of Golden residents. Cannonball Creek Brewery is making plans to open a small 4000 square foot brewery in Golden somewhere around the November 15, 2012 time frame. They have a new leased building (393 Washington Ave., Golden Colorado 80403) and will begin construction / remodeling in September 2012. Brian Hutchinson and Jason Stengl, both formerly of Mountain Sun, are the owners of this new operation and plan to have about 8 beers on tap at the open. A taproom will be included and will offer pints and growlers to go. Look for more news on this start-up operation in the weeks to come.

Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Speaking of new breweries, another new one is being planned for Boulder and is preparing to open as soon as late Summer 2012. It's Wild Woods Brewery. Their brewery will be located at: 5460 Conestoga Court and will be run by Jake and Erin Evans and Charlie and Kristen Rilling. They plan to have a Pale Ale, an IPA, a Red Ale, a Porter, a Stout and a Beery Wheat beer on tap around their grand opening time. They are putting up a web site at:

Juice of the Barley Home Brew Shop (Greeley) - A brand new home brew store will be opening in Greeley, Colorado on Tuesday, August 14th. Juice of the Barley will share space at the new Crabtree Brewing tap room at 2961 29th Street in Greeley. They plan to be a full service home brew shop. They are in the process of designing their new web site at: Stop by for their Grand Opening on the 14th. Or to get a sneak peak, stop in at Crabtree Brewing's new tap room when it opens on August 8th at 4pm.

Higher Beer Prices Coming? - With the record heat this year, lower predicted crop harvests and relatively higher gas prices than last year, the cost of obtaining materials and supplies for brewing beer is going up and may be even higher next year. Grimm Brothers Brewhouse announced price increases for all their beer starting today, August 1st. A pint went from $4.00 to $4.50 and tasters went from $1.00 to $1.50. Even growlers went up from $9 to $12 per refill. Will other breweries follow suit?

Dillon Dam Brewery (Dillon) - Announcing new Limited Edition Dam Big Beers! Every few days, stop into the brewery and try something new on tap. Just yesterday they tapped another big beer: Black & Tan aged in a Breck Distillery Barrel. You can try these big wonders for $5 per half pint while it lasts. Next week on August 9th at 9:30pm listen to "Frogs Gone Fishin'", a heavy-hitting rock band. Thursday is also Ladies Night where gals get FREE 1/2 pints from 9pm to 11pm.

Banjo Billy's Brewery Bus Tours (Denver) - Every Thursday at 5:15pm, the Wynkoop Brewing Company becomes the starting point for Banjo Billy's Brewery Bus Tours. For $34, after a tour of the Wynkoop, load up on a bus and head for Strange Brewing, Breckenridge Brewery, and Denver Beer Company with your guide. Wynkoop Brewing Company (Denver) - Announcing the return of Orville. Their 2011 barrel-aged Belgian-style and cult fave golden ale returns this month. Watch their Facebook page and web site for the upcoming release date.

Twisted Pine Wagon Wheel StoutTwisted Pine Brewing (Boulder) - Announcing the August release in their Artisan Ale Series - Wagon Wheel Stout - released on August 4th in 750ml bottles. Wagon Wheel Stout is a rich and creamy stout matured in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels with fresh, organic cherries. After 12 months of aging the brew is a full-bodied composition that pours deep black with ruby lacing and a chocolate head. The aromas of oak and bourbon are followed by the sweet delights of cherries and chocolate, finishing with subtle notes of roasted coffee. The label for Wagon Wheel Stout was designed by local artist Carrie Custis, who will be on hand on the 4th to sign bottles.
