Colorado Beer NewsToday is According to Hoyle Day. Get carded (so to speak). Edmund Hoyle is the man who is credited with inventing the modern day 52-card playing deck back in the mid-1700s. His rules for card games became a standard. So the next time you're playing cards - give a toast to Mr. Hoyle. Copper Kettle Brewing Company (Denver) - The brewery recently completed an expansion and for those who'd like to check it out, come to their upcoming Beer & Cheese Pairing on Thursday, September 13th at 7pm. Cost is $20 per person. They will be hosting the event in their new space. Details here.

Hop Harvest (Colorado) - Yes, it's the middle of the hop harvest season and many of Colorado hop yards have been busy picking and drying out this years hop crop. Niwot Hops and High Hops recently held their harvest with the help of many volunteers. Look for many of these hops to be included in several "wet hop" beers soon to debut on tap at a brewery near you.

Patrick's Irish Pub (Greeley) - It's a tap takeover! New Belgium will be taking over the majority of the taps at Patricks on Tuesday, September 18th around 7pm. Come meet the New Belgium rep and try one of 7 or more different New Belgium beers including: Tart Lychee, Red Hoptober, Cocoa Mole, Super India Pale Ale as well as Abbey, Trippel and Shift. Located in the heart of downtown Greeley - 907 8th Avenue.

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Grats to all the brewer teams who participated in the recent 2012 Northern Colorado Brewers Olympics at FCB last weekend. Big Beaver Brewing took GOLD, Pateros Creek Brewing took SILVER and Funkwerks took BRONZE. Check out the fun picture gallery on the FCB Facebook page. Also, the brewery has recently released 1020 Amber. This year's batch was aged in oak whiskey barrels from Dancing Pines distillery in Loveland.

Fall Festival of Beers (Mt. Crested Butte) - Mark your calendars! On Saturday, September 8th head down to Crested Butte for a day filled with Chili and Beer. Breweries from all over will be on hand with their finest brews to take the heat off the chili prepared by Crested Butte locals. In addition to beer & chili tasting, attendees will be able to enjoy live music while taking in the beautiful backdrop of Mt. Crested Butte. The Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce expects to bring well over 1,000 beer enthusiasts to the festival. Tickets are $25 per person. More details here.

New Belgium - Elysian Trip Series Imperial Fresh Hop IPANew Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins) - New Belgium is once again collaborating with Elysian Brewing to produce another in their Trip series of beers. This time, they plan to release "Trip Series Imperial Fresh Hop IPA", an IPA brewed with Orange peel. No word yet on when this beer will be released. The label is shown here.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - Their "goddess" of IPA is returning! Today marks the return of their duganA (Hindi for double or twofold) India Pale Ale. This double IPA is chock full of resiny Chinook hop goodness. It's on tap in the Avery Tap Room and will soon be on retailer shelves for another season.

Pateros Creek Brewing Company (Fort Collins) - The next beer in their "Bag The Peaks" series is being released this Friday, August 31st - Mt. Bierstadt is a Black IPA and comes loaded with Apollo and Cascade hops and a blend of roasted, chocolate and crystal malts. This beer will be pouring at The Mayor of Old Town in Fort Collins this Friday between 6pm and 8pm. Stop in and try this featured ale.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - Yesterday Upslope tapped their Dunkelweizen in the tap room. Their dark wheat beer is brewed with Special B and de-husked Carafa Specialty II malts, and then hopped with Hallertau. They combined these ingredients to produce a dark, complex beer with a sweet, nutty aroma. This Dunkelweizen has a roasted, caramelized and chocolaty taste with hints of banana, nutmeg and other spices. Upslope Brewing won a bronze medal in the 2009 Great American Beer Festival with this brew in the German Wheat Beer Category. Stop by and try one.

Yak & Yeti (Arvada) - Did you know that Happy Hour lasts from 11am to 6am every day at Yak & Yeti? That's when you'll get $1.50 off all their beers, wells and house wines. They will be tapping their Peach Wheat today at 4pm - this one won't last long so get some asap!

Grimm Brothers Big Bad WolfGrimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Today is the day that Grimm Bros releases Big Bad Wolf - an imperial version of their Little Red Cap. This release will be both on tap and in 22oz bomber bottles. Bottles will be available at the brewery today at 4pm - limit 2 cases per person and sell for $11 a bottle. Yup, it's big and bold just like the big bad wolf.

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - Could an opening be far behind? Today BSB released a short 2:45 minute video showing some of the work that's going on behind the scenes getting their brewery ready for opening. If you can't see the video below, watch it on YouTube.

Oktoberfest in Colorado (Annual List) - The harvests are coming in, the weather is starting to cool, and towns and communities in Colorado are planning their Oktoberfests! The first celebrations have already begun and the 2012 Colorado Oktoberfest page has compiled a list of over 30 communities in the Centennial state that have Oktoberfest or harvest festivals planned. Check it out and visit one of more of these activites. Festivals run from late August through early October.
