New Pagosa Brewing beer honors Chimney Rock

Pagosa Brewing CompanyPagosa Brewing Company Launches Limited Edition ‘Ancestral Ale’ Honoring Colorado’s New Chimney Rock National Monument

Brewed with Essence of Squash and Prickly Pear, Beer Pays Tribute to Pueblo Indians’ Cultural Heritage

[PRESS RELEASE] Pagosa Springs, CO -- In honor of President Obama’s landmark designation of the Chimney Rock Archaeological Area in southwestern Colorado as a national monument, the Pagosa Brewing Company & Grill has launched a new limited-edition Ancestral Ale incorporating many of the same ingredients used by the ancestral Pueblo Indians, who made Chimney Rock their home for more than 1,000 years.

Delicately crafted with local yellow squash, Anasazi beans, sweet corn and a whisper of prickly pear cactus fruit, the Ancestral Ale is a refreshing beer that captures the spirit of this one-of-a-kind archaeological site.

Chimney Rock, often referred to as “America’s Stonehenge” because of its deep spiritual significance, is only the third monument to be protected by President Obama under the Antiquities Act. The site plays host to over 12,000 visitors a year, and the designation could double annual visitation and tourism revenue within the next five years, providing a boost to the local economy.

“We are proud to be able to offer this special beer to celebrate the collective efforts that made the monument designation possible,” said Tony Simmons, Pagosa Brewing Company’s President & Head Brewer.

“Chimney Rock National Monument will serve not only to preserve our community’s past, but also to secure its future,” Simmons added. ”As more visitors come to see this truly impressive cultural site, they will be investing in our economy by eating at our local restaurants, drinking local beer, shopping at local stores, and staying at local hotels.”
