5 Years of being Fermentedly Challenged

Dave Butler - blogger - Fermentedly ChallengedBack in 2007 I was ending one writing gig and starting another. Before I knew it, this small personal beer blog started becoming a big part of my life. Five years later, Fermentedly Challenged has become an every day thing.

Fermentedly Challenged officially got its start on October 9th, 2007. I had been blogging about the online poker scene for 3 years and found myself increasingly fascinated by the growing phenomenon of local craft beer. Beer and poker seemed to go together naturally, at least on the nights I was playing it that is, but I wanted to keep the poker blog and the beer blog separate.

The old poker blog, Chipper's Poker World, ended on March 14th, 2009 and the beer blog Fermentedly Challenged kept going. That is until the Spring of 2010 when I took a year off of blogging altogether to focus on work and family. After things got less busy, I returned to blogging in the Spring of 2011 and with a vengeance. It's amazing how taking a year off sometimes can bring back some motivation and creativity.

Fermentedly Challenged is still a one-person operation (for the moment). The blog evolved from being a personal tasting journal into one where craft beer news from the 150+ breweries across Colorado is shared five days a week (and sometimes on weekends as well).

Slowly over the last two years I've managed to meet a lot of great people, gain some sponsors and that's helped to pay for the expenses that I've accrued (like going to the Beer Bloggers Conference in Indianapolis this year). In 5 years, I've accumulated over 1300 articles, that's a lot to go back through. Many of which I still edit and keep up to date.

I'd like to personally thank all of my readers for their continued interest and viewership. Those that come directly to the blog, those who subscribe via RSS and email and those who follow me on Twitter and Facebook. Without you and your feedback, I'd probably have never came back to blogging in 2011. There's a great community of people out there.

I'd also like to thank all of the breweries, brewers, owners and staff of the constantly growing family of craft breweries, beer bars, and beer related businesses in the state. Your beer and enthusiasm for making beer has been fascinating to follow over the years. In just 5 years, it seems like the number of craft breweries in Colorado has nearly doubled in the state.

So here's to 5 years (give or take) of blogging about great craft beer. Hopefully there will still be another 5 years or more to come. Let's hope the craft beer economy keeps going strong for a long time. Cheers to all!
