Colorado Beer NewsToday is World Teachers' Day. They are among the hardest working people we know. Let's show our appreciation for all they do today. After all, without them you wouldn't be able to read this page. Consider buying your favorite teacher a beer and supporting your local schools wherever possible. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, October 5th, 2012.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Today at 6:00pm Hops & Pie will be hosting a very special Firkin 1st Friday tapping. This month, Dry Dock Brewing is bringing over a firkin of a Whiskey Oaked Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale. This is a big beer weighing in at 9.5% ABV and 30 IBUs. This firkin is going to drain quickly. Then on Sunday, October 7th it's Denver's Littlest Big Beer Fest featuring flights & single pours from Great Divide Brewing Company. Taste vintage aged editions of their Old Ruffian and Hibernation ales, savor an Espresso Oak Aged Yeti, the Grand Cru, an Altbier, and their Fresh Hop Ale. The fest starts at 2pm.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) and Golden Road Brewing (Los Angeles, CA) are teaming up for a special CO vs CA tasting event at The Kitchen in Denver on Thursday, October 11th from 3pm to 6pm. There will be at least 9 beers between the two breweries battling it out for who's the crowd favorite. Golden Road will be debuting their Burning Bush Smoked IPA in cans that day as well.

Wit's End Brewing (Denver) - The brewery is extending their hours next week for the Great American Beer Festival. The taproom will be open from 12-8pm Monday through Saturday. They have reserved some of our special beers from the anniversary party like Cibeertron and Dubbel Impact. They will also be bringing back Slam Dunkelweizen for the first time in over a year. More details to come on next week's happenings.

Avery Brewing Company (Boulder) - This Sunday at 4pm, join Avery Brewing for lucky #13 in their barrel-aged series! Aged for 12 months in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, Odio Equum is guaranteed to warm your body and soul. Selling for $8 per 12oz bottle with a limit of 12 per person. Don't forget to bring cash for the lineup of rare beers available in the Line Party! Sours like Bad Apple & Ross’s Mom, high ABV beers like Whiskey Barrel-Aged Samael’s & Moloch, hoppy brews like Double Dry-Hopped Ale to the Chief & √úberschwein, and Tweak to keep you awake and ready to party!

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Welcome back a returning favorite. Their Riffraff Dunkelweiss is now back on tap by popular demand. Stop in today and try one for lunch and you'll get $1 off from noon to 3pm today. Chaulkbouard Gourmet Express will be on hand serving up their bacon cheeseburger specials for $5 today. Warm up with them inside the taproom today.

Colorado Craft Beer Show (AM 760 Denver) - Big live show at Strange Brewing Company this Saturday! Join them for some Great American Beer Festival ticket giveaways, new beers and special guests from Hogshead Brewery, Wit's End Brewing Company, CAUTION: Brewing Co., Renegade Brewing Company, Dad & Dude's Breweria, Copper Kettle Brewing Company, Lone Tree Brewing Company and Breckenridge Brewery of Colorado! Show starts at Noon at 13th and Zuni in Denver!

Wild Mountain Brewery (Nederland) - Don't forget about Hoptober Fest tomorrow at the brewery! Good beers, David Hasselhoff look alike contest, Jaeger girls, and live music from DJ JD and Hot Soup. They will have a heated tent but remember to dress warm. Nederland got its first snow last night!

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - If you're going to the GABF next week, be sure to show off your City Star gear and visit them at the booth. If they see you wearing City Star gear you'll get a coupon for a FREE growler fill!! If you're not heading to GABF, stop by the taproom in Berthoud. New tappings each day along with some great live music and food trucks in the evening.

Denver Beerfest (Denver) - It's all things beer this month! DENVER BEERFEST starts today, gearing everybody up for the GABF. One event you don't want to miss is the Denver Beer Crawl! Brewers from each location are featuring different – and spectacular - Colorado beers this week. From the tried-and-true to the truly unique, the Denver Beer Crawl has something for every taste! Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - Today is Big Beaver Free Beer Friday! They are giving away 1/6 bbl of Washington Whizzer starting at 2pm today. Limit 2 pints per customers, no growlers or pitchers. Til it's gone. then stick around for their 1st Bluegrass Jam tonight at 7pm.

Great Divide Brewing Co (Denver) - GDBC will have extended hours in the Tap Room just for GABF, an outdoor Beer Garden and more tours. Tap Room Hours: Wednesday, October 10th: 12pm-10pm, Thursday, October 11th: 10am-10pm, Friday, October 12th: 10am-10pm, Saturday, October 13th: 10am-10pm. Tours every day between 12-5pm on the hour. Beer Garden Hours: Friday, October 12th: Noon-8pm, Saturday, October 13th: Noon-8pm.

Oktoberfest in Colorado (Annual List) - Last Weekend! The harvests are coming in, the weather is starting to cool, and towns and communities in Colorado are celebrating Oktoberfest! The 2012 Colorado Oktoberfest page has compiled a list of over 30+ communities in the Centennial state that have Oktoberfest or Harvest festivals planned. Festivals run through early October.
