Colorado Beer NewsToday is Day 1 of the 2012 GABF. Over 49,000 visitors will descend upon the Colorado Convention Center during the 3-day Great American Beer Festival in Denver and sample over 2700+ beers from over 570+ breweries. Hops & Pie (Denver) - Something to keep on your radar for Friday - Hops & Pie will be invaded by Sun King Brewery all day with over 7 different and hard to get brews from Indianapolis. Sun King won a lot of medals last year at GABF (7) and will be showing off some of their best including: Osiris Pale Ale, The Velvet Fog (Belgian Quad), Cream Dream V: I Thought We Were Buddies (Imperial IPA), Barrel Aged Oktoberfest (Marzen), Grapefruit Jungle (American IPA), Sunlight Cream Ale (Blonde), and Pink Taco (Raspberry & Hibiscus Sour w/Sunlight Cream Ale base). After GABF, you won't find any of these being sold in Colorado, so get a taste while you can.

High Hops Brewery Grand OpeningHigh Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Next week, High Hops Brewery will be throwing their official Grand Opening celebration across 2 days - October 19th and 20th. There will be live music, door prizes, beer specials and food vendors on site. It's Northern Colorado's newest brewery. Taste beers brewed with hops grown on site on their hop farm. Get a "Hop Shot" and infuse your beer with even more hop goodness. Located at: 6461 Hwy 392 (west side of town on the main drag) in Windsor, CO. (Click image to enlarge)

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - During the GABF, Dry Dock will be open starting at 10am each day through Saturday. Also, this Sunday from 12pm to 3pm, take the 2012 Dante's Wingferno Challenge. It's a chicken wing eating challenge. These wings were made with the hottest peppers in the world. You'll get a free t-shirt for completing the challenge. $5 entry fee (if you dare). You can always try to quench the burn with a cold beer.

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - Tonight continues their series of movie nights with the showing of "Ghostbusters" at 7pm. There will also be a raffle going on. For $5 you will be entered to win "BEER FOR A YEAR" (a growler fill a month for 12 months). That drawing will be at 7pm just before the movie. Food trucks on hand tonight starting at 4:30pm. Happy Hour from 4pm to 6pm - get $1 off 16oz pints or 10oz DIPAs.

Oskar Blues Home Made Liquids & Solids (Longmont) - On Thursday October 18th from 6pm to 9pm at the Home Made Liquids & Solids restaurant, Oskar Blues will be hosting "Party with a Purpose" - a fundraising event to support OUR Center that provides support for local homeless, unemployed and struggling families. $30 includes live music, hors d'oeuvres, entries to win cool stuff like becoming a brewmaster for a day at Oskar Blues. Drinks are extra. Donations will also be matched dollar for dollar. Students in High School or earlier get in for $15. The event will be held on the patio (weather permitting). Located at: 1555 S. Hover Street in Longmont, CO.

The Brewing Network (Podcast/Video) - Their live broadcasts from the GABF start tonight at 6:30pm Mountain Time from the Brewers Pavilon. Guests include Gary Fish and Brian Faivre from Deschutes Brewery. Other great conversations throughout the evening. Listen in at:

50 Breweries Not to Miss at GABF - Ed Sealover, author and blogger, put out his list of "The 50-Stop Guide to the GABF" today. Scan his list for some excellent recommendations on which booths to visit inside the Convention Center. And yes, I agree with many of his selections!

Blake Street Tavern (Denver) - If you hadn't quite gotten your fill at tonight's 1st GABF session, then you might want to head to Blake Street Tavern for their after-party starting at 9:30pm. Featuring big beers, live music and a chance to check out Oskar Blues new "package" rumored to be a new 19.2 imperial pint can. Located at: 2301 Blake Street in Denver, CO.

Asher Brewing Company (Boulder) - Today at the brewery they will be releasing their very special Port-Zinfandel aged Monstah - one of the beers they will also be pouring at the GABF tonight. Top is off with food from the McDevitt Taco Supply food card.

Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - Steamworks Chef Sean Clark will be featured in the Farm to Table Pavilion tonight and tomorrow night at the Great American Beer Festival. He will be preparing a Pork Belly Sausage, Pumpkin Spaetzle, Apple-Ginger Braised Red Cabbage to be paired with Finestkind IPA from Smuttynose Brewing Company of Portsmouth, NH. If you are luck enough to have a ticket, you gotta try this!

Pateros Creek Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - Another GABF Week release today. Their next 14er beer is called Sunlight Peak - a session-style IPA weighing in at just 3.4% ABV and 40 IBUs. It taps today at 2pm. There will be The Pizza Casbah food truck available starting at 4pm as well. Come hungry and thirsty!
