Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Grouch Day. Once a year it's OK to be grouchy. And being a Monday, it's easy to see why a lot of people may tend to be grouchy, especially the Monday after the GABF! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, October 15th, 2012.

2012 GABF Quick Fact (Colorado) - This year, the breweries from Colorado walked away with 35 Medals at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival. 15 of them were Gold, 8 were Silver, and 12 were bronze. Plus, Colorado had the honor of also being the home to the Small Brewing Company and Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year - Funkwerks of Fort Collins and the entire Funkwerks brewing team! All Colorado Beer Festival (Colorado Springs) - Can't get enough beer festivals this year? Fear not there is another big Colorado festival coming up. This time it's in Colorado Springs the weekend of November 3rd. The All Colorado Beer Festival is in it's 6th year and plans two sessions at the Colorado Springs Expo Center. Ska Brewing (Durango) - Ska Brewing Sales Director and “Barroom Hero” Arlo Grammatica has led the brewery’s flagship milk stout to yet another medal win, this time a Silver Medal at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival. The Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival, now in its 21st year, is Sweden’s largest beer competition and festival. The medal follows a string of wins for the pair, including Gold Medal wins at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) and 2012 World Beer Cup, as well as Silver Medal wins at the 2012 Colorado State Fair Craft Beer Competition and 2012 Australian International Beer Awards.

Lone Tree Brewing Co (Lone Tree) - All this month, October 1st through the 31st, Lone Tree Brewing will be donating a portion of each sale made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. They're even selling pink pint glasses for the occasion. Stop in, buy a pint and help out this great cause.

GABF Pro-AM Winner (2012) - Congrats to Jay Shambo and New Belgium Brewing Company for winning a Gold Medal in the 2012 GABF Pro-Am brewing competition this weekend. Jay's winning beer: More Fun Blonde beat out a huge field this year in the Pro-Am category. Look for this brew to be on tap at New Belgium.

Funkwerks (Ft. Collins) - Not only did Funkwerks bring home 2 Gold Medals at the 2012 GABF for their Saison and Deceit beers, they were also names the Small Brewing Company and Small Bring Company Brewer of the Year for 2012! Congrats to Funkwerks for this big honor. In other news, Funkwerks just received to new 30bbl and 15bbl brite tanks today and installed them today. More beer heading your way soon!

New Planet Beer Co (Boulder) - New Planet Beer Company signed a long-term agreement today to brew its gluten-free beers at The Fort Collins Brewery in Fort Collins, Colo. This new agreement formalizes the relationship that has help build New Planet into a gluten-free beer category leader across 40 states. Along with increased production capacity, New Planet Beer and The Fort Collins Brewery plan to make a significant investment in developing a laboratory and not only continue to test for quality and gluten at external labs but also in-house providing the brew masters with real time feedback on progress. Kannah Creek Brewing Co (Grand Junction) - Kannah Creek Brewing Company's SEVENTH Kannahversary is coming up on October 25th! They want to say thank you to everyone who has supported them through the years with throwback prices on all of their beers. There will also be food specials including old favorites from past menus. The celebration runs from 11:00am to 10:00pm. Located at: 1960 North 12th Street in Grand Junction, CO. Also, Kannah Creek won a 2012 GABF Silver medal for their Land's End Amber this last weekend. Grats!

Telluride Brewing Co (Telluride) - Not only have they won two Gold medals in two different major beer competitions this year (including the 2012 GABF) but they also just celebrated their 1 year anniversary during the weekend. Not bad for a small mountain brewery just 1 year old! Their Face Down Brown took Gold at the GABF this year.

Rackhouse Pub (Denver) - GABF may be over, but the number of beers on tap at the Rackhouse keeps getting bigger and better. Right now they have 28 of their 30 taps loaded with Colorado beers with ABV's ranging from 4.3% to 12%. A bit of something for everyone.

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - It's all about the package alright. Oskar Blues announced during the GABF that they will soon be offering their Dale's Pale Ale in the new royal pint sized cans - at 19.2 ounces per can! These cans will be sold as separate cans and should be found in the bomber section at your local stores. This size can will also be used for future upcoming seasonals as well. Offering up beer in a single can offering offers a bigger choice for their customers. Sometimes you just want one and sometimes you want a 4-pack or 6-pack. Look for these new cans around Denver starting October 22nd and in all markets by January.

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project (Denver) - Today, Crooked Stave received a new 30bbl brite tank from Metalcraft fabrication. The new unit was put into place and should have new beer flowing in it very soon. Crooked Stave is also celebrating winning a Silver 2012 GABF medal for their Sentience in the Wood- and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer category.

Backcountry Brewery (Frisco) - Dust off your poker skills, Backcountry Brewery is hosting the Fall Texas Hold'em Classic open to people 21+. Free to Enter. Top 3 finishers will win an HDTV. There will be four weeks of qualifying rounds on Oct. 20th and 27th and Nov. 3rd and 10th. Four people advance each week to the finals. The finals will be on Nov. 17th. There will also be gift certificates awarded to 5 other people. Call (970) 668-2337 to reserve a spot. Check-in at 5:45pm each day.
