Colorado Beer NewsToday is Sourest Day. If you're feeling a bit sour today, it's OK. You're allowed to - it's Sourest Day. It's a day even Oscar the Grouch would embrace. And for craft beer drinkers, it's a day to celebrate Sour Ales. The increasingly popular tart, acidic brews that many Colorado breweries now produce. Pucker up! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, October 25th, 2012.

Denver Beer Company (Denver) - Now that the 1st snows are falling for the season, Denver Beer Company is renewing a tradition. If it's snowing and you decide to drink your beer outside in the beer garden in the snow you'll get $2 off your drink. Bring your warm clothes, hats, scarf and gloves. Hey, at least your beer will stay cold.

Black Cat Brewing (Boulder) - Black Cat Brewing and the Longmont Humane Society are teaming up for the month of October to bring you Black Cat Brewing's first merchandise! The yet to be open brewery is pre-selling limited edition t-shirts with the Black Cat Brewing logo printed in gloss black on black t-shirts, all proceeds go to the animals in need at the Longmont Humane Society! International Stout Day (November 8, 2012) - This annual celebration of Stout beers is coming up in less than 2 weeks. Be prepared to turn to the dark side of beer for this 1 day tribute. Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - [Odell blog] A few weeks ago, Odell Brewing and Rio Grande Mexican Restaurants got together to brew a chili pumpkin stout. Named “La Calavera” (the skull), the brew will be available for a limited time at Odell Brewing, Rio Grande Mexican Fort Collins, and El Monte Grill & Lounge. In celebration of this unique collaboration, Odell Brewing and the Rio will be hosting tapping parities on October 31st 2012. The keg tapping festivities will begin at Odell’s Tap Room, 800 East Lincoln Avenue, from 4:00pm and at 6:00pm. Guests are encouraged to dress up and enjoy samples of the brew, local snacks, and live music by Lee Holiday and The Time Off. The crowds will then be directed to the Rio patio, 143 W. Mountain Ave, where the festivities will continue with another keg tapping of La Calavera and live music by The Constant Tourists.

Kannah Creek Brewing (Grand Junction) - Congrats to Kannah Creek Brewing for reaching their 7th anniversary of making great beer and food in Grand Junction, CO. Today they are thanking their customers with $3 pints all day long. Stop in for lunch or any time after.

Parry's Pizza (Highlands Ranch) - On Friday night, October 26th, come to Parry's Pizza in Highlands Ranch dressed in your Halloween best. If you do, you'll get a chance to win some great stuff. Join them for the BEER and FEAR scary beer & costume contest. It's a great way to test out your costume for all those other parties you'll be attending all weekend long and next week.

Crazy Mountain Brewing (Edwards) - Boos & Brews - their Halloween Costume Party is Friday night from 6pm to 10pm. Stop by for $2 pints of select beers and live music by "Laughing Bones". They will also be serving BBQ for an additional price: homemade Gumbo, brats and pulled chicken sandwiches. Grab dinner and pre-party before your other late-night Halloween parties! Costumes highly encouraged.

Echo Brewing Co (Frederick) - Join the gang in the Tap Room this Saturday, October 27th from 6pm to 10pm for their Halloween Party! Wear a costume and receive a free pint! They'll be tapping their Pumpkin Ale and will have Halloween-themed games and great giveaways! JAMS Place will also be serving up gourmet grilled cheese! Also this week: Tonight - Empanadas from Orange Crunch, Friday Live Music from Watersong and Wood-Fired Pizza from Ablaze.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - The 462 Beer Club will be having a private party this Saturday, October 27th at 5:00pm in Crabtree's new tap room Brewer's Lounge. They will be releasing a new beer - Peachtree Cezanne Saison. This is a beer style traditionally brewed seasonally in farmhouses in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium, for farm workers during harvest season. A refreshing ale that is golden in color and brewed with wheat, rye, two-row barley and aged with real peaches. Once the party is over it will be available to the general public - limited on draft and also in 750ml cork & caged bottles.

Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - Steamworks is getting in the holiday spirit a little early, tapping its Spruce Goose Ale just in time for the arrival of the Capitol Christmas Tree in Durango. The theme for the journey of the “People’s Tree” to Washington DC is “Celebrating Our Great Outdoors.” How perfect to celebrate our outdoors with a beer brewed from spruce tips harvested from the San Juan Mountains. Sporting an ABV of 9 percent, the Spruce Goose received a bronze medal in the 2009 Australian International Beer Competition, and will be poured at Sorrel Sky Gallery (828 Main Ave.) on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, during a special celebration of the arrival of the Capitol Christmas Tree in Durango. The limited release Spruce Goose Ale will then be available only at Steamworks Brewing Co. in 750 ml. bottles, as well as on-tap.

Southern Sun (Boulder) - File this one in the close call category - The Southern Sun Pub and Brewery will be closed today due to a small fire that started in one of their fryers overnight. Don't panic though. Everything is A-OK! Keep an eye on their Facebook to find out when their doors will re-open. Until then, the Mountain Sun Pub and Brewery will be serving finely crafted malted beverages and scrumptious pub fare all day and night!
