Colorado Beer News 110112

Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Men Make Dinner Day. It's a day (probably started by women) where the guys do all the cooking for dinner. Guys - treat your lady to what you make best - no, not a mess, rather a special meal that she'll enjoy. And why not pair it with a great craft beer. And for dessert? Leftover Halloween candy of course. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, November 1st, 2012.

Ska Brewing Company (Durango) - Heading to Durango? Tonight is Chili Night at Ska from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Stop in the tap room and get complimentary chili and $3 pints. There will also be some live music from "Old North State" to groove to.

Oskar Blues (Lyons) - Remember that White House beer recipe that came out a while back? Well, the folks at Oskar Blues wanted to make some of that themselves and created a batch of White House Honey Porter. They were showing it off on KWGN Channel 2 news this morning. If you'd like a taste of it you can find it on draft at Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, their Home Made Liquids & Solids restaurant, and at the Tasty Weasel Tap Room in Longmont.

Crazy Mountain Brewing Co (Edwards) - Patrons! Get $2 pints of their Sticky Fingers Fresh Hopped Ale all day long today. Plus, instead of the regular $15 growler refills of this beer, they're only charging $9. Come get some.

Brewery Music Tonight (Colorado) - Here's who's playing music at Colorado breweries and better watering holes tonight.
- Acoustic/Vocal Open Mic Night - The Mayor of Old Town - Ft. Collins - 7:00pm - 11:30pm
- Live Music Thursdays - Fort Collins Brewery - Ft. Collins - 4:00pm
- Finnders and Youngberg - Dolores River Brewery - Dolores - 7:00pm
- Indigent Row (progressive Celtic rock) - Grimm Brothers Brewhouse - Loveland - 5:30pm
- Cary Morin - Home Made Liquids & Solids - Longmont - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
- Old North State - Ska Brewing - Durango - 5:00pm - 7:00pm
- Guilty Pleasures - Carbondale Beer Works - Carbondale - 8:00pm

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - New beer alert! "The Honeyed One" will be tapped on Friday, November 2nd at 5:00pm. There will be live music from Jordan Price, and food from BEDROCK BBQ. The Honeyed One is an American red ale, that is dominated with a malty undertone, and a subtle sweetness that leaves you craving for more. Come try some beer at Northern Colorado's newest brewery.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - The fame of City Star brews continues to grow and is now available in more locations. You can now get their 6 Shooter Pale Ale on tap at Pizza Bar 66 in Lyons, CO. And over at Taps Sports Bar in Fort Collins, you can find their Cowboy's Golden ale being tapped tonight.

Kannah Creek Brewing Co (Grand Junction) - The brewery has officially started their expansion! On Tuesday the brewery held a ground breaking ceremony on a new 14,000 square foot production-only facility and will be able to brew up to 60 kegs of beer at a time. Their existing facility has been at capacity for some time now. This new operation will allow them to put product on liquor store shelves as well. The new location will be down near the Riverfront Trail area in Grand Junction, CO. They expect this new facility to be open in May 2013. (Source NBC News 11 Grand Junction).

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - In their recent newsletter, Big Choice announced some upcoming new beer choices for December and January. Look for their Winter Ale (spiced ale), Malleus Maleficarum Belgian Quad, a firkin of Malleus Maleficarum with oak chips soaked in Tawny Port, and a limited release Peppermint Stout (oatmeal stout dry hopped with peppermint) to arrive in time for all the holidays. January will also kick off their once a month game nights. Great competition with giveaways. Ladies - stop in on Monday nights to get happy hour prices all night long - $1 off the $4.50 pints.

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - Mark your calendars. This year's Ho Ho Ho Slapdown has been set for Saturday, November 24th from 12pm to 5pm. Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving the Dry Dock Brewers go head to head with a special brew from each of them. The best part is you get to choose the winner! Make sure to come in and cast your vote for this years Ho Ho Ho Slapdown champion! There's gonna be some great beers being brewed again this year.

San Luis Valley Brewing (Alamosa) - Join SLVBC tonight at the brewery (Thursday, Nov. 1) after 5pm for the release of their first in a series of winter seasonal brews. While some asked for 'More Cowbell' (their Cowbell Common), and others were hoping to "Saddle Up" to a Strong Scotch Ale, they wanted to try something a little wild (literally), and unique for November. Announcing - Wolf Creek Winter - a beautiful dark red ale. It's got plenty of malt backbone, higher alcohol (6.8% ABV) to warm your tummy, and is a little 'wild' due to the 10 lbs. of fresh Spruce Tips (yep, right off the tree) that gives this beer a distinct aroma and flavor of pine. Come enjoy a release night pint for just $2.50, and celebrate the onset of cooler times.
