Colorado Beer NewsToday is Guy Fawkes Day. As the old saying goes: "Remember, remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot." It's voting season - be sure you take a stand and cast your ballot for what you believe in. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, November 5th, 2012.

Rock Bottom Brewery (Denver) - The holiday season is coming and Rock Bottom is planning a seasonal release you'll want to try. On Thursday, November 15th at 6pm stop in their Denver location for the release of Winter Tartan Ale. Part of the proceeds of this beer will go to two charities and also to the Parade of Lights. Free pint from 6pm to 6:30pm that day. Also, on Thursday, November 29th Rock Bottom is celebrating 21 years of beer with the tapping of 21, a raspberry porter in honor of their 21st anniversary. Free pint of this also, from 6pm to 6:30pm.

Crystal Springs Brewing (Boulder) - Work continues towards expanding and opening up a tasting room for the brewery in early 2013. They are looking for investors in this adventure. Those interested should contact Tom Horst at A large batch of South Ridge Amber was brewed and will become their 2nd beer put into cans (16oz/4pack). Available mid-November. Also, they recently brewed up a batch of Rum Barrel Aged Porter - DRUM. This will be available around Thanksgiving. Coming up next: a bourbon barrel stout in early December. And that's not all, Crystal Springs is also planning on doing some collaboration beers in the near future. Lots to look forward to!

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - It's Dry Dock's 7th Anniversary Party on Saturday, November 10th at the brewery. Festivities start at 11am. Live music with Scott Von begins at 4pm and they'll have some special offerings on tap to celebrate. The party runs til closing time. Also, coming soon to Colorado store - they'll be packaging their Amber Ale, Apricot Blonde, Hop Abomination and Hefeweizen in 12oz cans. And, Thursday, November 15th is Homebrewer's Night. Bring a bottle or 2 of your homebrew to share and grab a cup.

All Colorado Beer Festival (Colorado Springs) - Last Saturday, the 2012 All Colorado Beer Festival announced their medal winners. There were 6 major categories, each with 3 medals. The winners were as follows:

Silver – Pikes Peak Brewing – Oktoberfest
Bronze – Elk Mountain – Pilsner

Aspen Brewing Company (Aspen) - It's time for Fall Cleaning. The brewery will be closed all day today to make themselves spotless. They will be back open on Election Day, November 6th and will release their "Four More Beers" Election Ale. It's a recipe direct from the White House. Join in for a pint and watch the election results come in.

Elk Mountain Brewing (Parker) - Hey Chili fans! Don't forget Sunday, November 11th is their annual Chili Cook-off. They have 18 entries signed up so far! If you are interested in the cook-off come in and ask their bartender to sign you up! If not, come in and enjoy the variety of Chili's for the Potluck! The fun begins at 12 noon. Beer pairs well with chili too!

Steamworks Brewing Co (Durango) - Spruce Goose Ale returns on goes on tap at Steamworks this Friday November 9th. Spruce Goose Ale has once again returned as a holiday seasonal beer at Steamworks Brewing Co. Literally brewed with fresh spruce tips harvested in the San Juan Mountains, the beer has become a winter favorite for craft beer aficionados. Sporting an ABV of 9 percent, the Spruce Goose will be poured at Sorrel Sky Gallery (828 Main Ave.) on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, during a special celebration of the arrival of the Capitol Christmas Tree as it passes through Durango on its way to Washington D.C.

High Country Beverage (Loveland) - Beer distributor High Country Beverage recently bought out western slope distributor Colorado Beverage Distributing, Inc. Currently, High Country Beverage distributes over 250 brands of beer including New Belgium, Boulder Beer and Oskar Blues. This deal will allow for more distribution for High Country Beverage in 8 Colorado western slope counties.

Prost Brewing (Denver) - Scenario: You have been drinking all night with a group of friends. You finish your beer and look around to see that your friends still have glasses half-full. You don’t want to sit empty-handed, but if you order another beer you know you will drink it, regretting doing so the next morning. What to do? Prost Brewing has brought the answer to the table, literally. At Prost, you can order a “schnitt”, which translates from German to English as a “cut”. This is a half-pour sold to you at half-price. You can sip at this half-sized final pour while you wait for your friends, or even take a little bit to go. Great idea, right?
