Colorado Beer News 112612

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Cyber Monday. Leave the car at home and shop online today for those holiday gifts. Just don't do it while you're working. And after a long session of spending online, un-wind tonight with a fresh craft beer so you won't remember how much you just spent. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, November 26th, 2012.

Metro Denver / Boulder Breweries

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - On November 24th, Black Shirt Brewing tapped their new 2012 Smoked Red Hubbard Squash Saison. If you haven't tried it yet stop by. Check out their "tableside spice" that they added. They don't know of any other brewery doing that. They've also got some sour beers in the works so stay tuned for news on those as well. Also look for their 2013 Red Ale coming early next year - bottled in 32oz (quart) sizes (half growlers?).

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Don't forget to vote for what style you think they should brew for their 100th batch! The poll was posted on their Facebook page Saturday and will close December 1st. So far a Belgian Tripel and a Wee Heavy are leading the votes. Let your voice be heard!

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - There's going to be a special firkin on tap this coming Friday, November 30th at 3:00pm. It's their Roasted Marshmallow Bethla-yam. It's been cask conditioned with a twist! Once that firkin is gone, another will be tapped at 7:00pm. Also, the winner of their annual Ho Ho Ho Slapdown contest was announced - the winning brew this year is Bethleyham from Brett Williams - a Sweet Potato Stout weighing in at 5.1% ABV and 25 IBU. 2nd place went to John Schneider's Griswold's Gingerbread Amber Ale, and 3rd place to Doug Hyndman's Rudolph's Revenge, a Rapsberry Pomegranate Porter. Grats to all contestants. Look for Bethleyham Sweet Potato Stout to be featured at Dry Dock.

West Flanders Brewing (Boulder) - Attention Homebrewers! Starting this Tuesday and every Tuesday they are open, all homebrewers are invited to attend their Homebrewers Happy Hour from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. There will be weekly beer specials and 10% off all food and drink with your AHA card. Their hope is that different homebrewers come to meet one another and share their knowledge each week. It's the homebrewing equivalent of a Bluegrass pick. Also, every Wednesday and Friday night in December they will be featuring live music. See the brewery music listings for talent and times.

Big Choice Brewing (Broomfield) - Don't forget to support Colorado Kids this holiday season! Each time you drop NEW, UNWRAPPED presents off to the Big Choice tasting room between now and December 4th, you will receive ONE coupon for Buy One $4.50 Pint and Get Your Second $4.50 Pint FREE*!

Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge) - It's a grand opening celebration. On Wednesday, November 28th at 4:00pm, Brewery Rickoli will open their doors for the 1st time and welcome craft beer fans. The new brewery is located at: 4335 Wadsworth in Wheat Ridge, CO.

Avery Brewing Co (Boulder) - This Wednesday at 6pm is their annual Mephistopheles' Stout release. This year they will be hosting a vertical tasting and small dish pairing along with the 2012 release. Some tickets may still be available in the tap room for this event and cost $30 per person. Call (303) 440-4324 for availability.

Wynkoop Brewing Co (Denver) - Don't forget! This Saturday, December 1st (yes it'll be December already) it's their annual Parade of Darks from 1pm to 4pm. Sample 40+ winter seasonals, brown ales, stouts, sour beers, barleywines and more from the best breweries in Colorado, the U.S. and the world. Tickets are $35 in advance or $42 at the door. Get ticket info at

River North Brewery (Denver) - Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s time to start making plans for the holiday season. River North has got something for you that they’ve been working on since early summer. Whiskey. Aged. Imperial. Stout! The much anticipated Barrel Series No. 7, Avarice Imperial Stout aged in whiskey, will debut Monday, December 3rd at 3pm, both on tap and in bombers to-go. It will release to stores the following weekend. This beast can age for years, so make sure to grab an extra for the cellar (but feel free to crack one right away). It’s sure to keep you warm through the winter!

Northern Colorado Breweries

CHUBurgerOskar Blues (Longmont) - There's a new venture in the works for Oskar Blues. They've recently announced that they will be opening a new restaurant (possibly a chain) called CHUBurger. This restaurant will feature black angus beef burgers from cattle that they've raised on their Hops & Heifer farm along with other "craft casual" food. In addition to beef burgers, they will also feature BUFFburger (buffalo), cut fries, beer battered onion rings (made with Mama's Little Yella Pils), Hand Shakes (an ultra-light mousse treat) and of course BEER. Look for an opening around February 1st, 2013. CHUBurger will be located at: 1225 Ken Pratt Blvd in Longmont, CO. Read more about it on the Oskar Blues web site.
