Colorado Beer News 112812

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Create Your Own Head Day. This day is meant for artists and youth to create a likeness of their own head using any artistic means. For craft beer drinkers, we can interpret this as a day to pour a tall one into a glass and build up a mighty head (of foam). Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, November 28th, 2012.

Metro Denver / Boulder

Strange Brewing Co (Denver) - Help keep Strange Brewing's name! An effort is underway, led by Grimm Brothers Brewhouse and The Rackhouse Pub to raise funds for the legal defense of Strange Brewing Co in their trademark name infringement case. Breweries are being asked to donated a keg of beer to a fundraiser event set for December 20th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Rackhouse Pub in Denver. For details on this event, visit the blog post on Fermentedly Challenged.

Arvada Beer Co (Arvada) - Today ABC will release their "O'Harrow's Foreign Stout" - 7.4% ABV 35 IBU's. This Foreign Stout reportedly has a great balance between roasted barley and enough bitterness to make the palate jump for joy. Only British hops were used in making of this brew. Stop in for a taste.

Vine Street Pub & Brewery (Denver) - Announcing The First Ever Vine Street Full Moon Firkin: Beginning today, Wednesday 11/28, the Vine Street Pub will start regularly tapping a cask of beer (or two) monthly on the night of each full moon. Serving beer from a cask is a traditional English technique of allowing the yeast to produce natural carbonation in the beer. The beer is then dispensed directly from the vessel in which it was conditioned and carbonated. The beers will be served at cellar temperatures, which is not as cold as draft beer, but is also not warm. A Firkin is the term used for a 10.8 gallon cask. Today, the Mountain Sun FYIPA and Vegabond IPA Firkin Casks will be tapped at 4:00 pm at Vine Street Pub in Denver. The casks will be served until they’re gone!

Tivoli Brewing (Denver) - Fresh off the heals of re-releasing Tivoli Beer for the first time since 1969, Tivoli Brewing is planning to release a second beer in January or February 2013 based on the old Sigi's bock beer recipe. The beer while still yet without a final name, will be contracted out and produced at Prost Brewing in Denver. Later in 2013, look for even more old historic beers to be re-made by Tivoli Brewing.

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - Their 2012 Signature Series Bligh's Barleywine release date is set. There will only be 10 cases (120, 22oz. bottles) released at the Dry Dock tasting room on Sunday, December 9th at 11am, limit 1 bottle per person, $20 ea. They'll also have a limited amount on-tap that day while it lasts! Bligh's will also be available in your local stores starting on December 11th.

Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew (Denver) - Due to some plumbing issues, their taproom will be closed from Thursday through Sunday while they fix the pipes. When they re-open, they'll be tapping their Winter Warmer and Huckleberry Coffee Stout on Nitro!

Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge) - Today at 4pm is the big grand opening of Brewery Rickoli. They're planning on pouring 5 beers today including: a Rye Stout, a Black IPA, an IPA, a Scotch ale and a Red ale. These beers have a low gluten content.
