2013 Events planned at Hops & Pie

Hops & Pie 1st Friday Firkin2013 is going to be another busy year for Hops & Pie in Denver and already they are planning two events the first week of January. The pizzeria and bar has plans in place to become a brewery sometime in the near future, but in the meantime will host a variety of craft beer events featuring the beers of some of the best breweries in the region.

First up is their Firkin 1st Friday event on January 4th, 2013. This month, Hops & Pie will be featuring a firkin from Firestone Walker - Walker's Reserve. This is a singularly distinctive beer that represents their finest brewing efforts. Walker's Reserve is an elegant dark ale featuring robust flavors of toffee, caramel & bittersweet chocolate. This beer embraces five specialty malts, as well as oat & barley flakes, for added complexity and flavor.

50% of every batch goes through primary fermentation in their union of medium-toasted American oak barrels, otherwise known as the Firestone Union. This is one Robust Porter weighing in at 5.8% ABV and 45 IBUs.

Hops & Pie Vertically Epic TastingThen, the next day on Saturday January 5th at noon, it's a tapping of Epic proportion. A Vertically Epic Tasting of Stone Vertical Epic Ale. For the last 12 years, Stone Brewing has come out with some specialty beers released during the special numbered days that only happen once in a century. They'll be pouring beers from 08.08.08 (Belgian Strong Pale Ale), 09.09.09 (Wine barrel aged brew with spices), 10.10.10 (Ale brewed with 3 different grapes and chamomile), 11.11.11 (Ale brewed with Anaheim Chilies and Cinnamon), and 12.12.12 (a Belgian Strong Pale Ale).

The Stone Brewing beers brewed in past years have had plenty of time to age, mellow and mature and are meant to be savored at this special time. If you've tried these beers in the past when they were released, then you haven't tried them at their peak! This side-by-side vertical tasting is sure to be a beer lovers delight.
