Colorado Beer NewsToday is Colorado Gives Day. It's a day where all Coloradoans are encouraged to give generously to their favorite charities to help out those in need. Consider giving to your local food bank or making a donation to the American Red Cross or any charity you feel could use some additional help this year. Give where you live! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Tuesday, December 4th, 2012.

Metro Denver / Boulder

Strange Brewing Co (Denver) - Help save Strange Brewing's name! Strange Days - a fundraising beer event is being planned to help Strange Brewing raise legal defense money in their trademark infringement case with another business on the east coast. The beer event, originally set for December 20th has been moved to Sunday, January 27th, 2013 at 3:00pm in order to better accommodate logistics at the Rackhouse Pub who is graciously hosting the event. Tickets are $25 a person available from Brown Paper Tickets (http://strangedays.brownpapertickets.com/). Want to donate more than you can drink? They will also be taking donations at the event. Rackhouse Pub will also be serving up a killer menu and it's strongly suggest you get there early. Tickets will NOT be available at the door. Any funds not used for Strange Brewing Company in their legal defense will be donated to Colorado Adaptive Sports Foundation. http://www.coloradoadaptivesports.org/. Asher Brewing Co (Boulder) - This Saturday, December 8th from 5pm to 8pm Asher Brewing will be hosting a Chili Cook Off, $5 covers all you can eat chili and makes sure the winner receives their prize, a $50 tab at Asher. Additional money will be donated to charity. Come hungry (and thirsty) and ready to dig in to some homemade awesomeness. Fate Brewing Company (Boulder) - They are so close they can practically taste it! Fate Brewing Company is still on track to open later this month. They have been busy doing collaboration beers with Wild Woods Brewery and Asher Brewing Co. Look for an announcement of their official opening day any time now. Check out their progress on Facebook and on their website. Fate Brewing Co is located at: 1600 38th Street, Suite 100 in Boulder, CO.

Joyride Brewing Company (Edgewater) - Progress is being made towards their eventual opening. During their recent Kickstarter campaign, their good friend Andy Mickelson donated enough to earn himself his very own beer. So tonight they are brewing their first Traditional Bock, named MickelBock. As long as this test batch and recipe work out, expect to see this on tap at the brewery once they are up and running. Opening day is still a way's off - October 2013. Hoping to be open by the next GABF. Formerly known as Crooked Keg.

Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora) - Save the date! Sunday, December 9th, 2012 at 11am. The 2012 Signature Series Bligh's Barleywine release date is set. 10 cases (120, 22oz. bottles) will be released at the Dry Dock tasting room on Sunday, December 9th at 11:00am, limit 1 bottle per person, $20 ea. They'll also have a limited amount on-tap that day while it lasts! Bligh's will also be available in your local stores starting on December 11th.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - For the month of December Upslope will hosting a food drive in their tap room; bring in a non-perishable food item (cereal, pancake mix, canned food) and receive a dollar off your pint! This holiday season they want to be sure to help those in need in our own backyard. All of the food we receive will go to the Boulder County Homeless Shelter and the Emergency Family Assistance Association in the Holiday Neighborhood. Also, their Christmas Ale is now available in liquor stores! Enjoy this Holiday Spiced Belgian-Style Dubbel in "pre-wrapped" 16 oz. can four packs. This beer has a balance of Belgian flavors, malt complexity, and holiday spice. This is a Limited Release available only in select stores.

Avery Brewing Company (Boulder) - Ever wanted to get a virtual brewery tour in a 360 degree panorama? Check out what Visit Colorado 360 is doing. They recently took their special 360 camera into Avery Brewing and took 360 degree views of the barrel room, their tasting room and their bottling line. Check it out here and hang on to your seat. View it in full screen mode for the full effect. Mobile phones can view it my moving their phones around to move the camera. Rockyard Brewing (Castle Rock) - Attention Fort Collins! you can now find Rockyard Brewing beers in stores in Fort Collins. Check out Wilbur's Total Beverage, BS Liquors, and Aggie Discount Liquors for select Rockyard Brewing beers.

Northern Colorado

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Bring the kids! Santa is coming to the Windsor Gardener & High Hops Brew Shop & Brewery on Saturday, December 8th from 12pm to 2pm. While you're there stock up on your holiday decorations including wreaths, poinsettias, trees, and garland. Right now you'll get a coupon for a free pint from High Hops Brewery for buying a Christmas tree from The Windsor Gardener! Also, it's not too late to start your holiday homebrew beers! They just received a huge shipment of kits including Holiday Ale and Hopnog, two limited edition kits! Plus they still are offering 20% off homebrew equipment kits.

Colorado Springs

Pikes Peak Brewing (Monument) - Need some place to go for New Year's Eve? How about the Monumental party at Pikes Peak Brewing! Join in for a night with great friends and some incredible hand-crafted beers. They'll be tapping some specialty beers, eat your fill of hot hor d'oeuvres, enjoy Vegas-style casino games and dance the night away. A special beer tapped at the top of each hour 7pm - 12:00am. Dance inside their new barrel room! Party lasts til 12:30am. Watch the fireworks at midnight. Tickets are $45/pp and include 2 drinks, food, champagne toast, live music, casino game cash. Reserve your spot at the brewery.

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Saturday Dec. 8th they're hosting the Anniversary Party and fund raiser for Focus on the Beer. Trinity saved a keg of their Farmhouse Du Tomme', from the Beers Made by Walking event to tap for the party. There will also be several specialty batches from other brewers pouring to, this event is not to be missed! On Wednesday Dec. 12th, Trinity is hosting the annual Extreme Winter beer tapping. Expect big and warm seasonals to hit the taps that night, but beers like Delerium Noel will not last long as everyone will be here to get a taste. 12.21.12 will be a very unusual night for Trinity, as they're expecting the Mayan prophecy to come true and the modern world to end. If the world is going to end they're going out having fun! 'Little Death Ride' Saison Apocalyptique, their second collaboration with Black Fox Brewing, releases that evening at 5pm!

Mountains and West

Backcountry Brewery (Frisco) - Backcountry is expanding! During the last week or so, they've taken delivery and installed 1 new 15 bbl serving tank, 10 15 bbl fermenting tanks and a 30 bbl brite tank. This can only mean one thing - plenty more Backcountry beer will soon be available for their patrons and stores. Check out all of the new pictures of their equipment on their Facebook page. They even have a new 6-pack bottling line on the way too.

Dillon Dam Brewery (Dillon) - Head up to the mountains Thursday before the weekend snows hit and visit Dillon Dam Brewery for Open Mic Night with host Arnie J Green. Sign up to play, the fun starts at 9:30pm. And at 9:00pm to 11:00pm it's Girls' Night Out. Free 1/2 pints for the ladies for 2 yours. $2.50 pints for everyone else. If you happen to be there next Tuesday, Dec. 11th at 5pm, you can get a special half-pint pour of their Tap It Tuesday 5 gallon keg. That week, it's a Double IPA aged on 3/4 apple wood chips and 1/4 black cherry wood chips and soaked in Chardonnay & Riesling. $5 half pints of that while it lasts.

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - It's nearly time again for the monthly Littlest Big Beer Fest and this month, Hops & Pie will be featuring holiday beers! On Sat. December 15th at noon, there will be special beers pouring from Port Brewing, The Lost Abbey, Oskar Blues, Upslope Brewing, The Bruery, Strange Brewing, Dry Dock Brewing, Delirium Noel and many more! This is the ultimate way to try some of the best Christmas holiday beers in the region all in one place. Hops & Pie will also have a great menu of good items you can pair your beers with. Also, stop by this Friday, December 7th for a taste of a special firkin from Upslope Brewing. It's their Upslope Christmas Ale infused with cherries! The firkin taps at 6:00pm.

Home Made Liquids & Solids (Longmont) - It's the Killer Penguin March to The Apocolypse! Starting last night began something they're calling The Killer Penguin March to The Apocolypse. Each of the next three Mondays they'll be tapping a successively older vintage of Boulder Beer's Killer Penguin Barleywine; last night begin with 2012. Everything culminates with 2009 Killer Penguin on Friday, December 21st. Who knew The Apocolypse would be so tasty?! Stop in HMLS for a taste and stay for the food and music.

Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) - It's been 12 years in the making, but Stone's Vertical Epic series is finally coming to an end (just before the world does). Stay tuned for news on the the vertical epic tasting event 03.03.03 through 12.12.12 happening at Falling Rock on 12.12.12. Stone Brewing reps will also be on hand for this massive vertical tasting event. Stay tuned for more news!

Lowry Beer Garden (Denver) - Looking for an awesome way to ring in 2013? Join in at the Lowry Beer Garden for an Avery Brewing Tap Takeover! From 7pm until 1am the LBG will hand over all 16 taps to Avery Brewing, giving you total access to their line of specialty beers and seasonal favorites. To add to the party, there will be live music from 7-10pm and an Avery beer toast when the clock strikes midnight. Don't miss out on this opportunity to celebrate with your friends and sample select brews that will only be available at their location. It's going to be a rockin' beertastic evening. Be there!
