Colorado Beer News 121712

Colorado Beer NewsToday is International Talk with a Fake British Accent Day. Need an excuse to mix it up a bit? Why not talk like a Brit? Fans of Monty Python will love this day. Best warn others before you do, otherwise someone might think you've been having one too many. It's also National Growler Day. Visit your local brewery and fill one up with your favorite craft brew to take home. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Monday, December 17th, 2012.

A reminder: Several breweries, bars and restaurants are holding holiday private party events and may have restricted public hours this week. Call ahead to ensure your favorite watering hole is open when you wish to visit.

Metro Denver / Boulder

Kokopelli Beer Company (Westminster) - The brewery has new fermenters and serving vessels on order that will arrive in February. In the meantime, they plan to dismantle and move a large cooler on December 27th (they could use some assistance if anyone is interested in helping). Beer in Westminster can't be too far off!

Crystal Springs Brewing (Boulder) - The second beer in their canned beer releases will be out this week - South Ridge Amber. South Ridge is made from all American malts: 2 row, crystal and Munich malts, with a touch of carapils. It's hopped with Chinook and Cascade in the boil, with a massive late hop addition (whirlpool) of Centennial, Cascade, Amarillo and Zythos. With its combination of malt and hop flavors and aromas and a slightly dry finish, it is an eminently drinkable beer. Visitors are welcome out at the brewery - let them know in advance if you'd like to stop by. Call them at: 303.884-5602. They plan to move into a new taproom as soon as April 2013. Stay tuned for more news on that.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - The tradition of releasing new and returning beers continues. On Wednesday, December 19th, Grimm Brothers plans to release their Seven Ravens, a German-style Schwarzbier (aka black lager beer). This style is dark, has a full, chocolatey or coffee flavor similar to a stout or porter but is fermented as a lager at colder temperatures. Stop in soon to try one.

Loveland Aleworks (Loveland) - At 7pm on December 21st come down to Aleworks and celebrate the end of the world! Party like there's no tomorrow with your all of dearest friends at our End of Days Party! Grab the infamous outfit you've been saving for a special occasion that may never come, and/or get decked out in your best zombie-fighting gear and get ready for the party to end all parties. Compete for prizes in their Doomsday Sign Competition! They'll have plenty of cardboard and markers available, so come early, enjoy a beer, and have fun designing your entry. Say farewell to the world over a few pints as award-winning singer/song-writer/guitarist, Steve Manshel, performs. He'll take all your very last requests. Savor those precious last hours of life on Earth as we've known it with some much needed debauchery. To that end, Billy's Chaulkboard Gourmet Express will be serving an apocalyptic nacho bar. If the world's going to end, they want to go out in style with you! If it doesn't, they'll just keep on making more beer for 2013.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) - Even though they are expanding with a 2nd brewery in North Carolina, New Belgium is still expanding their Ft. Collins plant in the meantime to keep up with all the demand. They're adding 16 more tanks - 12 new fermentation tanks and 4 new brite tanks this week. This brings their total capacity up to 840,000 barrels. (ya that's a lot) - The expansion of The Fort Collins cellar project will cost upwards of $10 million. - Also, they just got label approval for Cascara Quad - an ale brewed with dates, coffee and cherries. Look for that in the coming weeks of 2013. New Belgium also plans to expand into Alaska and Louisiana in the spring of 2013.
