Colorado Beer News 121912

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Oatmeal Muffin Day. And you know what goes best with that? Pair it with an oatmeal stout of course! A warm muffin, a glass of stout and a warm fire would be great on a snowy today like today. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, December 19th, 2012.

Metro Denver / Boulder

Yak & Yeti Brewpub (Arvada) - There are so many brews happening at the Yak & Yeti that Adam the brewery can't wait to share the news with you. Buy 2 glasses of their LoonyToon Tripel and get a free basket of fresh naan bread to go with it. Today at 4pm come try their new Peppermint Porter. For Friday, December 21st at 4pm they'll be hosting an End of the World Party and tapping "Up in Smoke" Rauchbier. If we're all still around next week, on December 26th they'll tap a Cherry Porter for Porter Wednesdays. Then on New Years Eve, come taste Peaches & Pecans at 4pm - it's a beer inspired by Shiner Cheer. Don't forget to try Off Kilter 80/-, Sherpa Porter, West-Coast Glutton Double Red and Chai Milk Stout too!

Arvada Beer Co (Arvada) - Make plans now for Broncos Sunday, December 23rd. Happy hour will run from open until the game is over. Did you make it to their last Broncos Potluck? They are doing it again. Cary and Kelly will be providing some great smoked Brisket. Bring a dish down and enjoy the party, any dish will do. They will do this all the way to the party on Superbowl Sunday. Go Broncos!

Wynkoop Brewing Co (Denver) - Not to let Breckenridge Brewery be the only ones to put out a spoof video, Wynkoop just put out their own holiday beer music video highlighting their B3K Black Lager. Check out the video below supposed sung by "Blake Shelton" (not really) and sing along. If you can't see the video below, view it on YouTube.

Northern Colorado

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Capistrano has nothing on Loveland when the Ravens come back to Grimm Brothers. Seven Ravens returns today. Seven Ravens, a Schwarzbier ("black beer"), is a German dark lager. Don't let the color fool you. It's a delightfully smooth, crisp lager with a hint of chocolaty roast. They'll be releasing it in the Taproom TODAY at 4:00 pm. Then stay for a special Open Mike Talent Night tonight at 6:00pm hosted by Joel Kachel.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Today's special Wednesday Firkin is their 5-Spice Warmer, perfect for this time of year. Also, on Friday December 21st, they'll tap a special End-of-the-World Friday Firkin that will be tapped at exactly 12:21pm. Then at 6:00pm Friday, listen to Jordan Price and his acoustic blues-style electric guitar. Bedrock BBQ will be on hand too with their awesome food.

Southern Front Range

Pikes Peak Brewing Co (Monument) - Their three new 10 barrel fermenters arrived yesterday and soon they will have a lot more capacity for making beer. Wonder what they will fill them up with first? No matter what will be brewed next, more beer will soon be available for their thirsty patrons.

Phantom Canyon Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Stop in for a taste of two new brews on tap. 1) Santos L - A spiced winter warmer ale that is a rich, yet approachable English-style ale. 2) 1942 Stock Ale. Stock or Old ale are terms commonly applied to dark, malty beers in England, generally above 5% ABV. Stock ale or, archaically, keeping ale, is so named as the beer is held (aged) at the brewery. Also, work has begun on their brewhouse building. They are moving all of the current brewing equipment into the new building and adding two 30 barrel fermenters and three 15 barrel fermenters. The brewer's office, grain storage and a laboratory will also be housed in the new structure. Their current system was designed to produce 1000 barrels per year although they will do close to 2000 in 2012. The new system is designed to do 3000 barrels although they stated they could do twice that or more if need be. The construction should be done in late April 2013. There will be a 75 seat patio on the roof of the new building as well.

Mountains and West

Ska Brewing Company (Durango) - Ska is releasing the second in their Seasonal Stout Series on December 21st, Vinifera Stout! This 8% ABV foreign-style stout is brewed with Malbec grapes and aged on oak, and they're tapping it this Friday at 5:00 pm sharp! Look for Vinifera Stout to be at all stores that carry Ska beer very soon. Available in 12oz cans!

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Get ready for First Tuesdays Comedy Night at the Mayor! No, seriously - if you haven't had a chance yet, you should probably mark in your calendar that you're going to be at The Mayor for comedy night on January 8 at 7:30! They remember when you told them that you want to see more comedy, and this is your chance!

Rackhouse Pub (Denver) - So have you seen that reality show Hoarders? We’re pretty much like that, but we’re hoarding beer. Some really cool and exotic beer. Tonight is another in their series of I'd Tap That tapping nights. Today at 5pm they're featuring beers from Crazy Mountain Brewing including: Wine Barrel Layers, Guns & Money, Bourbon Peach IPA, and their Holiday Ale. After tonight, they'll take a slight hiatus and then return with another I'd Tap That Wednesday starting on January 9th.

Parry's Pizzeria and Bar (Highlands Ranch / Castle Rock) - How are you planning to spend the end of the world this Friday? Why not party like there's no tomorrow at Parry's Pizza during their End of the World Party. With over 90 beers on tap between the two locations plus some special firkins and a Last Supper Menu, there will be something for every beer lover. Look for their new Greenwood Village location to open soon and in 2013 two other new locations to be announced!

Fireman's Brew (California) - A Los Angeles-based craft beer company, Fireman's Brew, has announced this week that they will begin distributing their craft beers to Colorado. National Distributing Company will be the local distributors here in Colorado. They will be offering three different beers in 6-packs, twelve-pack samplers and kegs including: Fireman's Brew: Blonde (Pilsner-style lager), Fireman's Brew: Brunette (German-style Doublebock), and Fireman's Brew: Redhead (Amber Ale).
