Colorado Beer NewsToday is The Mayans Were Wrong Day. Yup, we're still all here. So much for ancient prophecy. Still, there's plenty of End of the World parties happening today. Don't be surprised to see a lot of people having to suddenly go out and buy last minute gifts because the world didn't end. Happy Winter Solstice! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, December 21st, 2012.

Metro Denver / Boulder

Rockyard Brewing (Castle Rock) - Looking to try something different? How about one of the Jellyman's Deviations? Today at 4pm they'll be tapping "CranBlaaager Braggot", a cranberry lagered braggot - made with a blend of local wild flower honey mead, Munich Helles and cranberry tartness. Bet you've never tried anything like it!

Arvada Beer Co (Arvada) - Still can't figure out a great gift for that beer lover in your life? How about this: Arvada Beer Company has lots of gift ideas for you. How about "Beer for a Year" (a growler fill a month for 12 months) $92. Gift Certificates in any amount. Growler and fill $20, Empty Growler $8, Mug Club $50 ( 15 left), New years Eve Party $50, Brew Class $25. Come on by and get that special gift! Try their new Gingerbread Brown - their Brewers Limited Reserve beer.

CAUTION: Brewing Company (Denver) - Drink specials, and new beer on tap! They "found" a small batch of beer just in time for our impending doom! They have a 9% ABV nitro old ale on tap that won't last long. The Old 7N Ale drinks like cream, yet is strong like bull. Yet another reason to keep the earth going! Tap room open from 4-8pm.

Bootstrap Brewing (Niwot) - Happy 6 Month Birthday Bootstrap Brewing Company! Today, they'll be tapping 2 new beers starting at 3:00pm - Gingerbread Ale and Oak Aged Cherry Christmas. Come celebrate with them and enjoy music by Michael DeLalla!

Wild Woods Brewery (Boulder) - Holiday Hours Reminder: Their tap room will be closed on Tuesday, Dec 25th (and they are closed on Mon, Dec 24th). BUT - be on the lookout for special Monday hours on the 31st for a New Year's Eve pre-party (4-8pm) with a new beer release, discounted pint and growler prices, and food from Ablaze Food Truck! Regular tap room hours this weekend.

Upslope Brewing Company (Boulder) - Expansion plans are still moving ahead. They plan to start brewing in their new brewhouse by January 15, 2013. And, their new taproom is expected to be opened by late March 2013. For those of you who love their Christmas Ale, the last batch was just sent to market last week. Stock up while it lasts. Their next seasonal, Upslope Foreign Export Stout, will come out in early 2013.

Copper Kettle Brewing Co (Denver) - Great news firkin lovers. Starting January 2nd, CKBC will have a new firkin on every single Wednesday for their Hand Pump Hump Day! It all starts January 2nd.

Northern Colorado

Pateros Creek Brewing Co (Ft. Collins) - It's the first day of winter, the end of 12 B'ak'tun, and now we all need a beer! Come by and try their 13.0.0.0 IPA or the Gingerbread ale on the Outlaw tap!

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - End of the World Special - $3 off all growler fills today. Better fill up just in case. Jam's Place will be on site serving up their famous Gourmet Grill Cheese and hot soups. Goes great with Grimm Bros brew!

Oskar Blues (Lyons) - Failed to make post-holiday plans due to the world ending? Well how about filling your calendar with an Apocalypse Beer Dinner! On Thursday, December 27th at 6pm up at their Lyons, Co location - Oskar Blues will be hosting a beer dinner like no other. Tickets are $43/pp (included tax and tip). Meet their new brewer Jason Buehler. Call for reservations: 303.823.6685.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Another new brew to taste! City star taproom is open 2-9pm daily, including Christmas Eve, and closed Christmas Day. Try their Cranberry Mule Kick. Now on tap through Christmas! Live music Friday and Saturday night starting at 6:00pm.

Verboten Brewing (Loveland) - Breaking news from this upcoming brewery. They have been approved for their certificate of occupancy from the city of Loveland! Next week is their health department inspection, then they will open as soon as possible so that all the people can come drink beer! Watch for an opening announcement soon.

Southern Front Range

Trinity Brewing (Colorado Springs) - Today from 5pm til 1:20am it's their Little Death Ride Release & Death Costume Party! Come join in for a night to remember. If we all are still around, that is. Put on your best zombie costume because they are releasing 'Little Death Ride,' a collaboration with Black Fox Brewing. This beer was crafted with indigenous Mayan ingredients in celebration of the end of the 13th Mayan Baktun. It will be available in 750 ml bottles, and we are tapping ONE keg. This will be the only time it's available on draught...ever.

Mountains and West

Grand Lake Brewing Co (Grand Lake) - While most breweries will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas, Grand Lake Brewing will be open! They will be serving up a special Christmas Day Dinner running from 2pm to 7pm. This family style meal included salad or soup, roasted turkey, house cured ham, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, buttered corn, honey glazed carrots, and pecan or pumpkin pie! Cost: $14.95 adults or $6.95 children 12 and under. Beer available separately. Call 970.627.9404 for reservations.

Elevation Beer Company (Poncha Springs) - Here's one for you imperial stout lovers (like me). Oil Man Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels was one of two beers Elevation Beer is releasing this month. This is part of their Double Black Series of beers. Oil Man pours black as oil and weighs in at 11% ABV and has a bitterness rating of 50 IBU. Supplies of this hefty brew are in small quantities so better stock up if you see them. Here's the label for those who love eye candy.

Durango Brewing Co (Durango) - Come party like there is no tomorrow! Join them for their "so called" End of the World party tonight. Come enjoy live music and $2.00 pints and $1.00 tacos all night long. Eat, drink and be merry.

Ska Brewing Company (Durango) - Today marks the release of their 2nd in their seasonal stout series. Oak-aged Vinifera Stout brewed with Malbec grapes makes its debut tonight in their tasting room. They'll be pairing that brew with some fancy Animas Chocolates in their tap room if you swing by. Look for cans in stores wherever Ska brews are sold.

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Here's some important upcoming dates on the Mayor's Schedule: No FAC today due to Holiday parties. Monday, 12/24/12- Open from 11:00am to Midnight. (The worst bartender in the world will be in and Michelle will be serving tables to allow their staff off for the night). They will be closed on Christmas day. No Clubs (Bettys or Brewseys) next week. No Open Mic Next Week. New Years Eve will be awesome! They'll be open until 2:00am with all kinds of fun stuff scheduled - No Cover!

Home Made Liquids & Solids (Longmont) - Tis the season to share great beers. Tonight they're tapping 5 Sam Adams specialties, including gingerbread stout and chocolate bock. Tomorrow they're ending their Killer Penguin reverse vertical by tapping the 2009 vintage (the 2010 is still pouring as of this morning). Come on down for some glad tidings.

Right Coast Pizza (Wheat Ridge) - Yea! Looks like we all should survive the Mayan Apocalypse. To celebrate come to a special Apocalypse Survival Bonfire Bash at Right Coast Pizza on Saturday, December 22nd from 6pm to 11:30pm. They'll have 18 beer on tap from Great Divide and Ska Brewing including some special release pilot brews. There will also be a bouncy castle for the kids, stand up comedy, live DJ music, magicians and more. Located at: 7100 W. 38th Ave in Wheat Ridge, CO.

American Homebrewers Association (AHA) - Did you know that card carrying members of the AHA get discounts at hundreds of breweries across the USA? Here in Colorado, if you show your member card you can get 50 cents off pints at both Bootstrap Brewing in Niwot, CO and also at the Very Nice Brewing Company in Nederland, CO.
