Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA review

Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPAA taproom and keg-only favorite will soon head to 16oz cans and by March 2012 Oskar Blues will deliver their Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA to the masses. I was lucky enough to be sent a hand-canned unlabeled sample of this bold dry-hopped American IPA monster to get a sneak preview of what Deviant Dale's will taste like out of the can.

Deviant Dale's is already an award winning beer even before it goes to the canning line. In 2011, Deviant Dale's IPA won a Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival in a very crowded beer style category. It's also been on select taps around Colorado for a while as well. Now, this beer will become Oskar Blues' first beer to be packaged in a 16oz tallboy can off of their brand new expansion canning line.

As per usual, this beer wasn't designed to be a light-weight. It weighed in at a powerful 8.0% ABV and probably has an IBU rating off the charts. It was hopped 4 times during the brewing process and then dry hopped further with Columbus hops. These hops had a very high alpha-acid percentage (14-18%) which was designed to give a clean but long-lasting bitterness to a beer. So given Oskar Blues' reputation for big bold beers, I was anxious to give this one a try.

Appearance:Out of the can, Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA poured a bright copper-orange color with a nice 2-finger tall off-white tight bubbled head. The beer had remarkable clarity in the glass. No haze, even when very cold. The head left a nice clingy lacing on the edge of the glass as well. The head when swirled looked rather creamy.

Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's canAroma: Deviant Dale's had a very remarkable aroma. It was abundant with dry-hopped Columbus hops - very earthy, somewhat resiny, yet fresh too. Even closing my eyes I could tell this beer was definitely a hoppy IPA. These hops are the same (supposedly) as the ones they used in Russian River's Pliny the Elder. It's was almost like smelling a handful of fresh picked resiny hops in my hand.

Taste: Knowing Oskar Blues' reputation for big bold beers, I was ready to be hit with a lot up front and I wasn't disappointed. Deviant Dale's has a strong resiny hop flavor mixed with a full bodied malt blend behind it. It's noticeably bitter, as a dry-hopped IPA should be. The texture is rather smooth going down, yet nearly sticky due to all the hops they packed in.

With this much hop flavor and aroma, I half expected to see whole leaf hops in the bottom of the can. While some IPA's can be extremely dry and too bitter, this one delivered the hop slam without too much dryness or lack of maltiness.

Overall: I was pleased with the balance of malt and hops in this beer even though I couldn't ever get away from the powerful aroma of the hops. Oskar Blues seems to have found a wonderful recipe for this 7th beer (or is it the 8th with HGH Part Duh) to head to the canning line. I'd rank this up with some of the best IPA's I've had like Dogfish Head's 90 Minute IPA.

However you distinguish an American IPA from a regular IPA - Oskar Blues seems to have done it's trademark FUH-CAN-EH top job on this beer. I "can" hardly wait for this to be released in 16oz tallboys in March 2012. I suppose I should head down to Longmont or Lyons more often to get this on tap in the mean time.

Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - Loveland newspaper The Reporter Herald did a piece on Big Beaver last week describing the expansion activity going on at Big Beaver Brewing. Owner Peter Villenueve recently installed a new 315 square foot cooler and expanded his seating area that will now fit up to 85 customers. The larger area now offers live music on Sundays.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - There are two new release events posted today. The first is for their KettleWeizen, a hefeweizen, scheduled for release at a party on Friday, February 3rd from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Then the second brew is their much anticipated Imperial Breakfast Bourbon Stout due to be released at a party on Saturday, February 4th at 12:00pm to 9:00pm. Food will be available for both events.

New Belgium (Fort Collins) - New Belgium's new Spring seasonal beer Dig has hit the shelves already and is starting to show up in stores. Dig, Cocoa Mole and Biere de Mars all hit the tap towers in the Liquid Center today. Meanwhile, plans for announcing a site for their East coast expansion have been delayed again until late March or early April. New Belgium spokesman Bryan Simpson told the Coloradoan that Sierra Nevada's announcement was "...not a deal maker or deal breaker".

Beer & Food Events - The last beer events of the month happen today in Denver. TAG Restaurant at 1441 Larimer is hosting a beer dinner at 7:00pm tonight. Cost is $58 a person and will feature the beers of Tommyknocker Brewery and selections from Colorado's Best Beef Company. Then cross town at Great Divide Brewing Company is another in a great series of Beer & Cheese pairings starting at 6:30pm. Cost is $24 and RSVP required to sharon@greatdivide.com.

Mountain Sun (Boulder) - Southern Sun (Boulder) - Vine Street Pub & Brewery (Denver) - Tomorrow officially starts their annual STOUT MONTH! A month-long celebration of everything stout beer will happen in all 3 locations. Nearly a dozen taps at each location will be dedicated exclusively to different varieties of stout beer. Odell Brewing Releases Footprint RegionAle

Fort Collins, CO. – On February 11, 2012, Odell Brewing will release its first single serve brew of the New Year. A uniquely collaborative project, Footprint RegionAle pays tribute to the brewery’s regional distribution.

This artful ale is a nod to the ten states that make up what Odell Brewing calls its “distribution footprint.” The brewery sourced select ingredients from each of these ten states and crafted a myriad of small batch brews that were then blended into one larger brew. Guest brewers comprised of distributor partners, retailers, co-workers and friends from each state were invited to Odell Brewing to help with the brews.

“I had the pleasure of making the trip to Odell Brewing Co to brew the Minnesota component of Footprint; we had the challenge of brewing with sticky Minnesota grown wild rice,” said Mike Illig, Craft Beer manager for C&L Distributing in St. Cloud, MN. “The whole concept of the brew is a great idea, and I am glad to be a part of such an interesting collaboration.”

Footprint includes hops and barley from Colorado and Idaho, wheat from Kansas and Wyoming, Arizona prickly pear, Minnesota wild rice, Nebraska corn, New Mexico green chilies, South Dakota honey, and oak barrels from Missouri. The final blend boasts a rich golden hue and an oaky stone-fruit nose, and a delicate sweetness from the wheat and honey that is balanced by a subtle spicy dry finish.

Odell Footprint bottleOdell Brewing will celebrate the release of Footprint on Saturday February 11th in the brewery’s Tap Room from 4-6pm. The event will feature samples of the beer, local food, and live music by The Constant Tourist. Footprint RegionAle is available in 750mL cork and cage finished bottles throughout the brewery’s ten state distribution.

Twisted Pine's second Artisan Ale to release

Imperial India Black Ale is second Twisted Artisan Ale of 2012

Boulder, Colorado – January 30th 2012 – On January 7th, Twisted Pine Brewing Company debuted the first beer in their popular new Artisan Ale Project to a full house at the brewery in Boulder, Colorado. Hundreds of beer and art lovers filed in throughout the afternoon to buy bottles of Surreal Stout and view the displayed works of featured label artist, Allison Boozer. “The turn-out was impressive and the beer was well-received,” proclaims Project Manager Justin Tilotta, “and we’re hoping to build on that success with February’s entry.”

The second installment for the Twisted project will be an Imperial India Black Ale named Canis Lupulus, and is set to launch on Saturday, February 4th at 12pm. The resinous, dark beer was double dry-hopped with Galena and Citra hops and carries a noseful of evergreen and lemon scent. The flavor is a fine demonstration of balance as the roasted malt notes link up with the hops to strike the palate with a pleasantly bitter, satin-smooth finish. Although Canis weighs in at 10% ABV, the alcohol is a passenger on this ride. Hops drive the ale, and the result is a deliciously dank beer with 90 IBU.

Art, of course, plays as big a part in this series as does the beer itself. The label for Canis Lupulus features a piece called “Silver Stars and Moon” by local Boulder artist, Chris Huang, who will be on hand for the release Saturday at the brewery, where his artwork will be displayed throughout the ale house. Huang uses pieces of wood, varying in shape and size, in place of canvas for most of his paintings, an attractive distinction which lends itself nicely to the décor inside Twisted Pine. In addition to his original wooden pieces, the artist will also have prints of the featured piece, as well as many others, on display and available for purchase. And, if January’s release party is any indicator, Huang will also be busy all day signing bottles of Canis.

During the January Artisan Ale release party, Boozer signed more than 70 bottles of Surreal Stout for customers expressing their desire to collect all twelve offerings in 2012. Party-goers showed further appreciation for her art by purchasing several original photographs and more than 25 prints of the piece featured on the label. Boozer summed up “one of the best experiences” she’s had as an artist as follows: “A chance to share my art and drink delicious beer, How can it get any better?”

Elevation Beer Company to bring Barrel Aged Craft Beer to Colorado

Elevation Beer CompanyPoncha Springs, Colorado - January 30th, 2012 - Elevation Beer Company, an artisan microbrewery focusing on seasonal barrel-aged beers, plans to start brewing the second week of February. Elevation will start brewing in its brand new 15-barrel system 7,400 square foot facility located just outside of Salida, Colorado in nearby Poncha Springs, Colorado.

“We are focusing on brewing the type of beers we love to drink,” says Head Brewer Christian Koch, “Our first Black Diamond Series release, will be Apis IV, a Belgian Quadrupel made with caramelized honey, and our first Double Black Diamond Series release, will be Signal De Botrange, a farmhouse ale brewed with brettanomyces and aged in Napa Valley Chardonnay barrels. We are brewing beers for beer geeks just like us.”

Elevation was started by four friends, Carlin Walsh, Christian Koch, Sheila Bustamante and Xandy Bustamante, who had a dream of producing some of the world’s best artesian ales and lagers while living in the heart of the Rockies.

Elevation Beer Company - Apis IV - QuadrupelElevation Beer Company will focus on producing three distinct lines of beers, based on the ski slope rating system, with it’s easy drinking Blue Square Series, it’s bold Black Diamond Series, and it’s adventurous Double Black Diamond Series of barrel-aged beers.

Both the Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond Series’ will be available on draft and 750ml cork and caged Champagne style bottles across Colorado, while its Blue Square Series will only be available on draft in the high country of Colorado.

Do you have a specific target date for your grand opening?

"We are looking at May 19th for our grand opening of the tasting room and the release of our first Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond Series beers. We should have our Blue Series beers available in Chaffee County come late March. More details on our grand opening party are being finalized and we will most likely send out another press release on that."

Will you have a tasting room? If so, how many beers do you plan to have available by opening day?

"Yes we will, We will be doing tours every weekend once we open and plan on having 8 taps (with 3 different gas blends for perfect pouring and proper glassware) firkins, and will be rotating our beers frequently on our Brewers Playground Series (brewed on our one BBL pilot system) at the tap room as well as serving our regular line up. We will also have growlers, kegs, and bottles available to-go."

Will all of your beers be available in bottles initially or will you be selling mostly kegs initially?

"Only the Black Diamond Series and Double Black Diamond Series will be available in 750ml cork and caged Champagne style bottles. the Blue Square Series will only be available in the Colorado High Country and only on draft. We will have some limited draft available of our Black and Double Black Diamond Series for the front range as well."

I saw that you had Apis IV a quad in bottles. Will that be your opening brew?

"Apis IV (Black Diamond Series) and Signal De Botrange (Double Black Series) will both be our first launches to the Front Range in bottles. Both of the series will rotated quarterly (and never repeated in back to back years) the Double Black Series will always be Barrel Aged.

Apis IV is a Dark Belgian Strong (or a quad depending on your style definitions) and will be made with local caramelized honey and Signal De Botrange will be a Brett Farmhouse Ale aged in Napa Valley Chardonnay Barrels."

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) - Steve Jones, owner and head brewer at Pateros Creek was a guest on the new Colorado Craft Beer Show on AM760 Denver this last weekend (Jan. 28th). Check out the podcast of that broadcast and hear about how Steve is doing at Pateros Creek.

Dry Dock Brewing (Aurora) - During the weekend, The Brew Hut and Dry Dock Brewing held a big homebrew competition. Over 327 entries were submitted and the overall Best of Show winner was Eli Gerson in the Brown Beer category. Eli will get to brew his beer on Dry Dock's 7 barrel system and have his beer featured on tap at Dry Dock. Congrats Eli!

Lone Tree Brewing (Lone Tree) - Need a place to hang out for the upcoming big game this Sunday? Lone Tree Brewing will be hosting a pot luck during the game. Bring in your best dish and share with everyone. Lone Tree will have plenty of beer available for the game. Please post what dish you will be bringing on their Facebook page so they know who is bringing what.

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) - Odell will be closed all day today (Jan. 30th) for their yearly co-worker meeting. They will be back for normal operations tomorrow, (Jan. 31st) for all you thirsty fans.

High Hops (Windsor) - Attention home hop growers! Since it's been a dry winter and we've had lots of relatively warms days this month, High Hops reminds you that you should be watering your hop plants during the winter and covering them with a little mulch if you have not already done so.

Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - Today, Eddlyline will be tapping their much anticipated Mountain Fairy Raspberry Wheat. It's on tap in both Eddyline locations in Buena Vista.

Phantom Canyon Brewing (Colo. Springs) - A new brew was tapped yesterday - their Jebus Braggot - a cross between beer and mead (honey wine). It's being served in a wine glass and weighs in at 9.5% ABV - oh my! Get some while it lasts. Also new on tap is their Moltke the Younger Belgian Style Tripel Ale (9.6% ABV), and the Señor Biggles English-style Extra Spcial Bitter (6.4% ABV).

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Tickets are now available for Pressing for a CURE at FCB. Just stop by 1020 East Lincoln Avenue or call 970-682-2260. Remember for only $50 you get a 4 course beer paired meal created by the head chef at Gravity 1020 and a great show. Or for $20 you get a great show and 2 free beers. Grab some tickets while they last! If you miss the dinner or pre-sale tickets don't worry you may miss a great deal but you can still pay at the door the night of the show - February 25th. Dinner starts at 6pm - show starts at 8pm.

Winter Beer Fest (Denver) - did you attend the Winter Beer Fest in Denver last Friday night? What did you think of this year's event and beer selection? Beer fests during the winter are few and far between, but there are still a LOT of beer related events planned for February already. Check them out here.

Voss Farms Colorado (Hop Farm) - Front range hop farm, Voss Farms, dropped off the last of their 2011 hops (6 pounds of Nugget) to CB & Potts in Fort Collins yesterday. Those hops will be used in an upcoming collaboration brew that several Fort Collins brewers will make together as a prelude to the upcoming Craft Beer Week 2012. Voss Farms grows 5 main varieties of hops in their 1 acre hopyard in Arvada, Colorado - Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Nugget and Willamette.

Trinity Brewing (Colo. Springs) - Tonight at 5pm at Trinity, they will be hosting a Barley Wine night featuring several barleywines from around the state and other states. Beers include: Left Hand Widdershins, Avery Hog Heaven, Boulevard Harvest Dance, Bristol Old #23 AND Great Divide Old Ruffian! Stop by and indulge in some big beers.

Colorado Mountain Brewery (Colo. Springs) - Besides having a nice selection of in-house craft beers, Colorado Mountain Brewery is releasing their brand new food menu today with new classics like Pepita Crusted Salmon Salad, Seared Ahi Tuna, Wild Mushroom Ravioli and the Mount Massive Burger. Stop in for a brew with your lunch or dinner.

Vine Street Pub & Brewery (Denver) - This past weekend, the Mountain Sun chain of pubs held a special preview of their upcoming monthly Stout Month inside the new brewery room at the Vine Street Pub. While the brewery may still not be officially open (pending paperwork), they will wanted to show off their spanking clean and new brewhouse to the public and feature some awesome stouts that all 3 locations will featuring during the month-long stout month in February. Vine Street Pub & Brewery, once open, will become the flagship brewery for Mountain Sun and the Southern Sun. Read the review of their Stout Month Preview in the Westword article.

Crazy Mountain Brewing (Vail Valley) - It's Batter meets Beer! No, it's not baseball they're talking about - it's cupcakes! There will be a special cupcake and beer pairing this Friday, February 3rd at 5:30pm at the brewery. $10 tickets are available in advance at the brewery.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - The canning of their Eclipse Black IPA is going well and on February 8th Crabtree Brewing Company will be canning their 2nd beer. Look for Crabtree Oatmeal Stout in 16oz tallboy cans on shelves sometime soon after the 8th. Also, if you're in Greeley today you may have noticed a crane hoisting a new large tank into the brewery. Crabtree is starting an expansion of their own. This tank will be used as a grain silo.

Elevation Beer Company (Pancha Springs) - Colorado will soon have another new brewery opening. Today, Elevation Beer Company sent out their first ever press release announcing their opening soon and the release of their new barrel-aged craft beers and their upcoming brewery opening just outside of Salida. Oskar Blues (Longmont) - The Tasty Weasel Taproom is planning to celebrate their 3rd birthday at the Oskar Blues brewery in Longmont. And they're throwing a party on February 24th just for the occasion. They'll be hosting a Silent Disco, hand canning of your own beer and the OB BoneWagon will be outside to satisfy your munchies. More details to come.

Ska Brewing (Durango) - Need to learn how to stretch a bit? How about some Yoga and a beer? For $10 you'll get 1 hour of yoga training and 1 pint of Ska beer when you're done. Now that's learning how to relax! Yoga at the brewery every Monday at 5:30pm.

The Mayor of Old Town plans for a long term

The Mayor of Old Town - Ft. CollinsMove over Falling Rock - The Mayor of Old Town has taken over as beer tap king and is planning to hold office in Colorado for a very long time.

Even though The Mayor of Old Town has only been open for less than a year, the beer bar and restaurant at 632 S. Mason Street in Fort Collins, Colorado has already made a big name for itself as one of Draft Magazine's 100 Best Beer Bars in America for 2012.

Owner's Kevin & Barb Bolin spent several years traveling around to some of the best beer destinations around the country and got inspired to open up their own place. They wanted to offer customers a taste of some of the best available beers from not only here in Colorado, but also from around the world. Their fascination with great beer led them to set up a tap house and restaurant with a huge wall with 100 different beer selections on tap, 5 of which are nitro taps.

Add to that a beer cooler with over 35 other beers in bottles (I counted 62 different labels that day) and a wonderful food menu of gourmet sandwiches, oven baked pizza and local coffees based on the Red Table Cafe and they've got the complete food and beverage combo. They even serve breakfast items all day long.

They have an extensive beer glass supply suited to match every style of beer and a huge projection screen beer selection "scoreboard" above the tap lines that is updated instantly whenever a new beer goes on tap. Favorites are highlighted next to select beers on the board to let customers know of special offerings.

Kevin was kind enough to introduce his staff, including Michelle Peth, their bar manager who is in charge of ensuring that all 100 taps keep flowing. When asked what criteria she used to select beers for The Mayor of Old Town, she stated that beers are selected based upon variety, availability and seasonality. She chooses the best beers she can get here locally and ones that add variety for the season.

Keeping 100 beer taps working at the same time is no easy task. Kevin showed off his beer cooler in the building's basement. It's massive too as you can imagine. It's about the size of a full tracker trailer and can store just over 160+ kegs of beer. There were seemingly miles of highly organized tubes running from the cooler up to the taps upstairs.

The lines are kept cold using an in-house glycol system and each tap line is electronically monitored by a state of the art tap system. They know instantly the temperature, the pressure, how much beer has flowed from every line in the bar. It was an amazing site to see - plus it was all kept spotless. All their tap lines are thoroughly cleaned after each keg is drained. Keeping fresh beer tasting great is a high priority at the Mayor's.

The Mayor of Old TownBusiness has been very good so far since their opening. On certain nights, normally around the weekends, you can find a line waiting outside the door to get in. During the visit on an early Saturday afternoon, the place was nearly full already.

The food menu is quite extensive. I chose to try their "BBQ for You" pizza. It was served on a black tray that resembled an artists paint palate. I asked one of the wait staff what was one of the most popular food items on the menu and was told that their Jalapeno & Cream Cheese Pretzel was a fan favorite. It looked like a huge German-style pretzel and had a cream cheese filling and is served warm with jalapeno jelly.

The Bolin's did a great job in converting the stone-faced building from an old furniture store into one of the town's biggest beer attractions (besides the breweries themselves). They are planning to open up a new outdoor patio in March on the north side of the building and will have enough seating for an additional 42 customers. The patio will be open year-round weather permitting.

Also in the works are The Mayor's own hosted brewery tours. They plan to have regular tours daily with their own bus that will pick up and drop off patrons right outside the Mayor's building on South Mason Street.

Bottled beer selectionThere's even entertainment and beer clubs held regularly at The Mayor of Old Town. Mondays nights are the Gary Brewsey Men's Beer Club at 5:30pm, followed by alternating weeks of "Battle of the Beers", where two similar style beers go head to head in a competition decided by patrons. Tuesday nights host the Beer Betty's Ladies Beer Club at 6:00pm. You can usually find live comedy being hosted on Wednesday nights around 8:00pm.

On Thursday nights from 7:00pm to 11:00pm they host an Open Mic Night where patrons can sign up to perform for the crowd. The weekends are always busy. They recommend you get their early to get a seat.

There's a new beer club at OB HMLS in Longmont. It is called Funk n Wild and focuses on wild/sour/funky beer. The first meeting is Saturday April 21st at 3pm in the upstairs of HMLS. They will be pouring beers from New Belgium, Crooked Stave, Funkwerks, Strange and more! The featured speaker in Eric Salazar from New Belgium! It's free for anyone who wants to come hang and hear and talk about these awesome styles of beer! There will also be special food pairings available. No tickets, no space limits.

Since 1993, the Microbreweries for the Environment Benefit has raised well over $100,000 for local environmental causes. This is a carbon-neutral event. You are encouraged to walk, bike or bus to the event. Over 20+ Colorado breweries will serve their best beers. Cheap $2 pints! The benefit will feature live musical performances by 3 top local bands. Expect another sell-out. Doors typically open at 8pm and event starts at 8:00pm and runs til 11:00pm.

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Thomas Crapper Day. Don't ask me why - it just is. One of the original folk who no doubt prayed to the porcelain god from time to time and made a few improvements to it as well. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, January 27th, 2012.

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - As reported yesterday, there's a new brewery in the works coming to downtown Berthoud Colorado by the name of City Star Brewing. They are hard at work getting ready to open sometime in the Spring. In addition to 5 regular American ale taps, you can expect to see 5 rotating specialty taps including (but not limited to): a green chile ale, a raspberry brown, a chai stout and some big hoppy IPAs. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for a FAQ post about their brewery. They will be located at: 321 Mountain Avenue in Berthoud.

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) wanted the ability to store more beer on site without having to keg everything, so they've just ordered a new 10 barrel fermenter and 3 10-barrel serving tanks (all stainless). Cheers for more beer! It's always good to hear about businesses expanding.

Snowdown (Durango) - Once upon a time, in a land not so far away in a beautiful village called Durango, there were princesses and woodsmen, wolves and fairies, some pigs and even a few billy goats gruff. And in the winter they all came down with a serious case of cabin fever! Yikes! The cure? SNOWDOWN! The original cabin fever reliever! February 1-5, 2012. Plenty of beer related activities are available in town sponsored by the 4 local Durango breweries. Past events included a Waiter/Waitress Race (for beer), a Beer'd Growing Contest, Beer Pong Tournament, Polar Beer Plunge, a beer Burping contest, pole dancing contest, plus a big chili cook-off with lots of beer! There should be lots of these events going on next week. www.snowdown.org

New Planet Beer Company (Boulder) - The popularity of Colorado gluten-free beer is spreading. Now New Planet distributes it's beer to 29 states. They just opened up into Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Washington DC, South Dakota and Pennsylvania. It's not just for people with gluten intolerance. Try one!

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins) is kicking off the weekend this afternoon with a Beer & Cheese pairing at Bullfrog Wine & Spirits from 4:00pm to 6:30pm. Then swing by Cranknstein in downtown FoCo for a special Red Ale firkin with ginger tapping at 7pm! Don't let a little snow slow ya down.

Winter Beer Fest (Denver) - Tonight's the big night for the Winter Beer Fest at Mile High Station in Denver. Are you going? There's going to be a lot of Colorado breweries represented. If you didn't get a ticket you're probably out of luck as they have a 1-out/1-in policy for adding additional people at this point. They are SOLD OUT. Looking forward to hearing what people thought are the best brews at the festival. Have fun Denver and be safe!

More Upcoming Breweries - The discussion on Fermentedly Challenge's Facebook page yielded yet more upcoming breweries that were previously unknown to this author. Fort Collins will be getting yet another brewery soon in the form of Hoppy Dog Brewing. Brewmasters John Kure and Daniel McCue have a website and a Facebook page, but no information as of yet. Also, Berthoud will be getting not 1, but 2 new breweries. City Star (as reported yesterday) and 1 more. Look for word on Seasons Brewing Company coming soon.

Rockyard Brewing (Castle Rock) - Distribution of Rockyard brews are expanding out to more locations. You can now find their beer at Cheers Liquor Mart in Colorado Springs including their popular Bourbon Barrel Stout.

Crabtree Brewing (Greeley) - Their popular Twisted Creek Wheat is finally back on tap along with several other brews. Hungry? Padre Polo's Holy Smoke Barbecue will be on hand tonight outside the brewery and Ben Pu will be providing some live music. Stop on over to the east side of the tracks to Crabtree. Location: 625 3rd Street in Greeley.

Mountain Madness Brewing (Durango) - Thanks to a tip from a reader (Roger), who stated that an existing restaurant/pub in Durango, Mountain Madness Brewing Company, is planning to begin brewing their own beers by this fall. Mountain Madness would become Durango's fifth brewing operation in the small college/ski town. Ya think that town loves it's beer! Darn right! www.mountainmadnessbrewing.com or Facebook.

Falling Rock Tap House (Denver) - February is DAIN BRAMAGE Month at Falling Rock (aka Barleywine Month). Starting the 1st FRTH will begin tapping into some of the current crop (a couple to begin with, then more on Friday the 3rd). Then on Thursday Feb. 9th they will start tapping the vintage Kegs (13 this year!). Come on down, public transportation or designated drivers are heartily encouraged. Tickets are on sale behind the bar for the 15th Annual Barleywine Dinner. Chef Cheryl is working on the menu. The main dish is a Jerked Pork Tenderloin entree that totally rocks the barleywine. Tickets are $55 per person (tax & Gratuity included) until Sunday Feb. 5th, $65 After (if still available).
