Ska heads for DC to attend SAVOR

Ska Brewing
Ska Brewing To Attend 5th Annual SAVOR in Washington, D.C.

DURANGO, COLO., (Apr. 20, 2012) — As food and drink enthusiasts descend on the nation’s capital on June 8 and 9, Ska Brewing will be among the 74 small and independent craft brewers participating at SAVORSM: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience in Washington, D.C.

Presented by the Brewers Association, SAVOR is the premier beer and food pairing event in the U.S. In its fifth year running, SAVOR provides guests the chance to sample craft beers from eight geographic regions across the country. To complement the craft beers, attendees will enjoy a reception-style sampling of delicious sweet and savory appetizers from a menu designed by Brewers Association culinary consultant Adam Dulye, Chef/Owner of The Monk’s Kettle and The Abbot’s Cellar in San Francisco, and a select group of chefs specializing in beer and food pairings.

“People from all over the country attend SAVOR, and only a limited number of breweries are selected for the event,” said Ska President and Co-Founder Dave Thibodeau. “I’ve worked with Chef Adam pairing food and beer for an event at the Governor’s mansion in Denver, and I’m really excited to work with him again pairing Ska beers with his phenomenal cuisine.”

“As the benchmark event for craft beer and food lovers, SAVOR is a unique opportunity to try great food paired with beers from small producers that ordinarily only distribute locally,” says Julia Herz, Craft Beer Program Director, Brewers Association. “In addition to meeting the principals behind the breweries, attendees have an opportunity to learn about a vast array of craft beer topics courtesy of SAVOR’s educational presentations. It’s a truly coveted event by beer lovers.”

Craft brewers continue to see increased sales and growing market share, along with praise for their small-batch beers, despite the fact that overall beer industry sales have declined.

During SAVOR, Ska Brewing will be serving Steel Toe Stout paired with pecan-crusted BBQ beef short ribs, and Modus Hoperandi IPA paired with Chef Adam’s take on a Kentucky Hot Brown, featuring roasted turkey, bacon and Gruyere cheese on brioche.

For more information on SAVOR visit SavorCraftBeer.com.

Oskar Blues Grill & Brew celebrates 15th anniversary

Oskar Blues 15th Anniversary
Family Fun, Live Music, Down Home Grub, B.Stiff & Sons Old Fashioned Rootbeer Release and Community Artists Mark 15 Year Celebration

Lyons, CO. Funky little Oskar Blues Grill & Brew started 15 years ago when Dale Katechis and his wife stumbled across Lyons, Colorado on a road trip. That trip began many Colorado born inspirations and experiences that have shaped what Oskar Blues is today.

On April 28th, the 15 year celebration at the Lyons, Co brew pub will feature a full day of family activities including a live petting zoo, live music by local band Interstate Stash Express, specialty canned craft beer & Rootbeer, live crawfish boil, commemorative t-shirts, Oskar Blues race car appearance, photo booth and a local artist gallery from 1pm to 5pm.

Dale Katechis will launch the evening festivities at 5pm that will feature a full-on 15 year pig roast/crawfish buffet and a live musical performance by The Informants (www.theinformantsband.com).

The day will also serve as the official launch of a few new libations: The 15th Anniversary Abbey Ale in new 16oz cans along with the official CAN launch of B. Stiff and Sons Old Fashioned Rootbeer. Oskar Blues is canning the same Rootbeer that has been served in their restaurants over the past few years named in tribute to Brian Stiff, a Lyons local and father of two who unexpectedly passed away on February 11th.

"Brian was one of our bike riding buddies," Katechis said. "He lived up in Lyons, and it's just an awful, awful story." Stiff died unexpectedly in February. Since then, Katechis said “Our friends in Lyons have been looking for ways to help his widow and two young children and canning the root beer, with a portion of the proceeds going to the family, is our way to do that.”

Come on out and celebrate Lyons like it’s 1997!

An American-style IPA, the Vagabond blends five American hop varieties and boasts an impressive aroma of grapefruit, tangerine and pine. Capital City Saison: 8% ABV. This brand new recipe will make its debut at the Vine Street Smokin’ Hot Anniversary Party on Friday, April 20th at the Vine Street Pub. Pater’s is a Belgian-style pale ale flavored with Australian Galaxy hops and hop-backed with whole cascade flowers. The spice from our house Belgian yeast blends perfectly with the floral and citrus notes from the generous addition of whole flower hops. In addition, look for these old classics to return to their tap boards: St. Amos Belgian Wit, Saison d’été, 1636 Belgian Dubbel, Hooligan Oatmeal Porter, Onslaught Belgian Imperial IPA, and Hummingbird Strong Ale.
