Also, welcome back Old Ruffian Barley Wine Style Ale and Espresso Oak Ages Yeti Imperial Stout to be back on shelves soon. Winter just got a lot tastier! Also, Colette Farmhouse Ale and Nomad Pilsner just got promoted to year-round beers!

Northern Colorado

Big Beaver Brewing (Loveland) - Free Beer Fridays continue in 2013, but to let more people have a chance to participate, they are changing the format a bit. Instead of starting at 2pm and continuing until it's gone, the beer will be free for the 1st half hour of every hour (2-2:30, 3-3:30, 4-4:30 and so on). This makes it easier for those who work later to enjoy a beer on the house! This week they are giving away 2 1/6 barrels of their Doppelbock (about 10 gallons) of free beer! Drink Special - try a Brown Beaver - a blend of their Bust-A-Nut Brown Ale and Beaver Stubble Stout - $3.27 pints of it all week. Join in on Fridays for the Beaver Bluegrass Jam - it starts as early as 7pm but really gets going around 9pm. Get 2 free beers and 1 beer brat if you perform.

Equinox Brewing (Fort Collins) - Today's Thursday firkin is a good one, it's their Night Ryder Munich Dunkel conditioned with winter spices from Old Town Spice Shop. This one tapped at noon and if you hurry you can still grab a pint.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Fort Collins) - The first Outlaw Tap of 2013 is on today. Their tapping "Holiday Revenge" - it's a red ale made with a mix of cherries and holiday spices. The holidays are never really over if you still keep the holiday spirits.

Mountains and West

Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival (Vail) - A week from today, the craft beer world is heading up to Vail for the 13th annual Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Festival to be held at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa. This event attracts some of the best US and International beers, all above 7% ABV. There will be beer dinners, informational seminars, and of course a huge beer tasting event. The festival runs from Thursday, January 10th through Saturday, January 12th, 2013. Look for coverage from Fermentedly Challenged and others in the coming weeks. www.bigbeersfestival.com.

Ska Brewing Company (Durango) - Tonight is Chili Night in the taproom starting at 5:00pm. Get $3 pints and complimentary chili and listen to live Ska music from ABQ Soundsystem. Life is good in Durango!

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

Russian River Brewing (California) - Could what is happening in Washington State with Russian River happen in Colorado too? Beerpulse.com recently reported that Russian River Brewing is pulling out of the state of Washington due to their inability to grow current production and to satisfy local investors. There are rumors that Russian River could pull out of other states as well. Let's hope not, Pliny the Elder is a popular beer here in Colorado. Avery Brewing recently pulled out of Minnesota (temporarily) in order to deal with capacity issues until they can expand. The "Expand or Die" mantra looks like it has some merit.

RateBeer.com (Beer Ranking Site) - RateBeer just came out with their top 100 "Best Brewers in the World for 2012" list based on visitor input. Included on that list were: #14 Great Divide Brewing Company, #22 Avery Brewing Company, #65 Oskar Blues Grill & Brew, and #72 New Belgium Brewing Company. Congrats to all these breweries for making such a prestigious short list! Here is the complete list. Who made #1? Three Floyds Brewing Company of Indiana.
