Colorado Beer NewsWelcome to the first weekend of 2013! Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, January 4th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Copper Kettle Brewing (Denver) - Their new hours are in effect! Starting today, they open at 12 noon on Fridays! Tonight Primo Wood Fired Pizza will be out serving up some excellent pie slices starting at 5:00pm. Plus get here for the annual mystery beer tapping this Saturday at noon.

Black Shirt Brewing (Denver) - Open tonight from 4-8pm! Also available will be some great food from Street Eats 5280 featuring Hawaiian Style Kalbi Short Ribs, Dan Dan Noodles, and a Moroccan Vegetable Stew. A little spice will compliment the Red Ales perfectly!

Epic Brewing (Utah & Denver) - According to the beer blog Utah Beer, "Epic Brewing has finally penned a deal to build a new brewery in Denver, Colorado. They're new location will be at 3001 Walnut St. in the River North Area or RhiNo district. It's a 20k sq ft. space that will host a Twenty Bbl double kettle five vessel brew house. A tap room is planned and they're hoping to get about 1000 casks aging in there by years end." - Betcha can't wait eh?

Yak & Yeti Brewpub (Arvada) - New brews on the tap lines! La Bhutan - a Belgian-style Blonde (7.5% ABV / 24 IBU), 100% Kona Coffee Porter (5.2% ABV / 32 IBU), GF Apple Ale (4.9% ABV / 0 IBU) and one keg left of their Peaches & Pecans (5.2% ABV / 26 IBU). Yak & Yeti will also be pouring up at the Big Beers Festival next week. Look for their La Bhutan, West-Coast Glutton Double Red, and Yak's Russian Imperial Stout (10% and 180 IBUs!!)

Boulder County

Sanitas Brewing CompanySanitas Brewing Company (Boulder) - In a press release issued on January 3rd, three brewers let it be known that they intend to open up a new brewery in Boulder, Colorado this Spring. Look for Sanitas Brewing Company to hit the scene and make a name for themselves. The name of the brewery was inspired by their love of the outdoors: Mount Sanitas is a popular hiking peak overlooking Boulder. The owl in their logo represents an owl that hangs out near one of the brewer's house and the 6-pointed star represents the brewer's star. The brewery will be located in the former post office sorting center at 1860 38th Street. www.sanitasbrewing.com - also on Facebook and Twitter.

Northern Colorado

City Star Brewing (Berthoud) - Here's something you don't see everyday - lower prices for beer! Due to the recent installation of bigger tanks in their brewhouse, the added production capacity is allowing City Star to lower their growler prices for 2013! 32oz growler and fill $10-16 (refill $6-12) and 64oz growler and fill $14-$26 (refill $10-22). Stop on in and fill 'er up! But stay for some live music tonight as well.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - Don't forget that you'll get $1 off all pints from open til 3:00pm today. The Chaulkboard Gourmet Express will be on hand later today serving up the best Bacon Cheeseburger specials - only $5. Burger and brew, what could be better for Friday?!

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins) - Today New Belgium announced the release of two new Lips of Faith beers for 2013. The first is Heavenly Feijoa Tripel with hibiscus and feijoa (fruit) and the other is Cascara Quad made with coffee, cherries and dates. See all the details in their press release.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - Baby it's cold outside, but inside in their nice warm indoor beer garden you can enjoy their tasty beers and savor delicious food from Bedrock BBQ. Maxwell Hughes and his unique guitar playing style will entertain starting at 6:00pm til 8:00pm. Come start off your weekend with High Hops.

Southern Front Range

Bristol Brewing Company (Colorado Springs) - The Colorado Springs Business Journal is reporting that Bristol Brewing Company will be opening up a new taproom in the Colorado Springs Airport later this month. The airport is doing a $22.6 million terminal renovation and Bristol's taproom will be a part of that helping to make the environment more customer-friendly. Read all about it in their article.

Mountains and West

Telluride Brewing Company (Telluride) - Attention Fort Collins! Telluride beers are coming to your town very soon! They just made arrangements to distribute their brews into Larimer Country starting on January 15th. The legacy of Telluride continues to spread.

Strange Days Brew FestRackhouse Pub (Denver) - Come to the Strange Days Beer Fest on January 27th from 3-6pm. It's a huge fundraiser to help Strange Brewing Company get legal funding in their efforts to keep their name in a trademark case. Over 12 different Colorado Breweries are donating kegs to this cause. Hops & Pie (Denver) - Tonight they'll be tapping a firkin of Firestone Walker's Robust Porter - Walker's Reserve. The mallet strikes at 6:00pm sharp!

CNN Top 12 Beers of 2012 (TV/blog) - CNN came out with a list of their top 12 beers of 2012 and two Colorado beers made the list! Odell Brewing's Woodcut No. 6 and Avery Brewing's Odio Equum Wild Ale joined 10 others in a who's who of best beers. See their full story here.
