Colorado Beer News 012313

Colorado Beer NewsToday is National Handwriting Day. Handwriting is quickly becoming a lost skill for most of us. It's rare to see anyone hand write a letter or a journal entry these days. Before you lose all those skills you supposedly learned in grade school, take time today to write something by hand. Sure, you may get writer's cramp, and you may also fail to read your own writing, but practice it every once in a while. Who knows, if the power goes out you might just need to write something later on. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013.

Metro Denver

Wynkoop Brewing Co (Denver) - Do you have your Fat Tuesday plans set yet? Why not join in their Fat Tuesday Parade & Party on February 12th starting out at the Wazee Supper Club at 4:30pm for pre-parade drinks, then at 5:30pm walk in the keg kicking parade down to the Wynkoop. At 6:00pm they tap the keg of Big Easy Ale and play live music from a Cajun band. Food and Drink specials all day long for Fat Tuesday. It's coming up soon! Plan to attend. (Details in the February calendar).

Dad & Dude's Breweria (Aurora) - Need a little challenge in your Wednesday nights? How about playing Texas Holdem at Dad & Dudes? Sign up to play at 7pm and the games start at 8pm. You'll have a chance to win gift cards, special prizes, and even a free pint of their Dank IPA. Plenty of great food and beer available too.

TRVE Brewing (Denver) - There's a new beer set to be released this Friday, January 25th at 7pm. TRVE and the band Speedwolf got together and brewed Death Ripper - a 4.2% ABV biting session ale that's based on an inverted bourbon grain bill and hopped up with Falconer's Flight. They're throwing a party with some DJ's until midnight to celebrate.

River North Brewery (Denver) - For their upcoming 1st anniversary, River North will be releasing their "super secret stout" - now revealed to be The River North First-Anniversary Beer - a 12.5% Imperial Stout. This beer will serve as the headliner for the party on February 16th at 1pm along with their other draft pours. There will also be limited edition bombers-to-go - around 75 cases. Their barrel garden will be open to the public. Their Barrel-Aged Avarice is rumored to be making an appearance as well. Matt's Snack Shack will be out front with some great chicken wings and other grub. Other surprises are in store as well for the party.

Tivoli Beer (Denver) - The 1st production run of their new Sigi's Wild Horse Buck Beer started up today over at Prost Brewing. Get ready to taste some of this old time recipe brew, coming back soon to Denver. Just one of several historical brews being redone and brought back to life.

New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins / Asheville, NC) - Yesterday, the City Council in Asheville, NC formally approved New Belgium's plans for a brewery. This was one of the final hurdles in getting the new brewing facility approved on the 20-acre site on Craven Street, just north of Haywood Road. The brewery expects to open in 2015 and give jobs to 154 people. The city voted 6-0 in favor of the breweries plans.

In other New Belgium news, their Springboard Ale is set to return in place of Dig in their upcoming Spring Folly variety 12-packs. Dig will still be available in draft, 6-packs and regular 12-packs. The Spring Folly pack will include: Fat Tire, 1554, Springboard, Ranger IPA and possibly more.

Funkwerks (Fort Collins) - Plans were announced of the pending release of a new beer tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 24th) that will be on draft at Funkwerks. It's based on an old Funkwerks ale recipe that's dry-hopped and Belgian-style. It was also fermented with Belgian yeast and Brettanomyces for some sour funkiness.

Mountains and West

Eddyline Brewing (Buena Vista) - Here's a beer deal that will make you wish for a ton of snow to fall during the next storm.
