Colorado Beer News 012413

Colorado Beer NewsToday is Beer Can Day. It all started back on this day in 1935 when Krueger's Finest Beer was first sold to the public in cans in Richmond, Virginia. Since then, beer in cans has become a tradition. And even today, craft beer has been put into cans for more than 10 years by Oskar Blues here in Colorado. Celebrate canned beer today and grab a cold one, but not too cold else you mask the true flavor. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Thursday, January 24th, 2013.

Metro Denver

De Steeg Brewing (Denver) - Opening day is just about a week away for this new brewery set to open on February 1st at 4:00pm. The brewery entrance is not on a main road, but rather in the back of the main building in an alley. Look for the black and white sign with a chalice. The brewery is located at 4242 Tennyson Street in Denver in the back of "The Dailey Method" business. The brewery entrance is in the alleyway behind that business. Park on Tennyson and access the alleyway from either 44th Avenue or 43rd Avenue.

Coming back next week is their Orange Chocolate Porter on Wednesday.

Colorado Plus Liquidartworks (Wheat Ridge) - CPlus continues to push ahead towards their March 2013 opening. Today they received their Brewer's Notice from the TTB and allows them to legally brew beer. Recently, a new sign went up at their location at: 6995 W. 38th Avenue in Wheat Ridge. One of the brewers, Adam Draeger, who also works at Yak & Yeti, plans to put in 15 hours a week moonlighting for CPlus. They plan to offer 4 or more of their own beers as well as offer 52 other great Colorado only beers on tap. Stay tuned for word on when opening day will be set.

Boulder County

Boulder Beer Co (Boulder) - Today they're celebrating Beer Can (Appreciation) Day. Did you know that Boulder Beer started canning some of their beer in 2010 (Hazed and Infused) and later canned Hoopla in 2012. The decision to can was due to aluminum being highly recyclable, light weight for portability, plus the can gives protection from oxygen and light better than a bottle. Celebrate with a can from Boulder Beer today.

Upslope Brewing (Boulder) - Tonight at The Oriental Theater in Denver, CO, Upslope is co-sponsoring the Backcountry Film Festival - celebrating the human powered experience. Doors open at 6pm and the film starts at 8pm. For every Upslope brew sold at the festival, $1 will go to Friends of Berthoud Pass Avalanche Awareness. Raffle and drink specials available. More info at:

The Very Nice Brewing Company (Nederland) - The brewery wants fans to know that they finally have more of The Logical Fallacy as well as their Very Nice Pale Ale back on tap for this weekend. It may have taken a while, but they've been hard at work to get your favorites back on tap. Remember, it's not the size of your brewery that matters, it's how you use it.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - There is going to be an epic Avery Tap Takeover with 67 taps over at Backcountry Pizza and Tap House on Sunday, January 27th from 11am to 4pm. Backcountry Pizza is celebrating their 2nd anniversary with a big party. There will be a $15 buffet available as well, giveaways and more.

Northern Colorado

Equinox Brewing (Ft. Collins) - This week's firkin is their Universal Porter that has been conditions with Madagascar Vanilla Beans. These beans were obtained from the Old Town Spice Shop in Ft. Collins. The firkin taps at noon. With their recent expansion, Equinox now hosts 20 taps and two beer engines. Long live variety!

Black Bottle Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Some of the great IPA you tasted on their grand opening day is now back on tap. Hipster IPA is described as "A little grapefruit Dance party in your Mouth". Try that one or one of 40 craft beers on tap. Located on the SW corner of Prospect and College Ave in FoCo.

Crabtree Brewing Company (Greeley) - After tearing down their old brewhouse in December, Crabtree has been relying on their stockpile of kegs to keep the beer flowing at their new location. Just today, they've finally got their old brewhouse moved into their new location and started brewing operations again. A newer, even bigger brewhouse is still in the works in a new building to be constructed behind their existing one. Until then, they are back to brewing with their old equipment and should have new beer flowing in a few weeks.

Pateros Creek Brewing (Ft. Collins) - If it's Thursday, it must mean another new Outlaw Tap is available in the taproom. Today they're pouring ALEnauguration. It's Car 21 with peppermint, allspice, and caramel. Come get some and celebrate the start of 4 more years (or is that beers?)

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Now on tap - come try their Barrel Aged Barley Wine - a 9.6% ABV 100 IBU bourbon barrel wonder. The taproom will be closed tonight starting at 6:00pm for a private party - but fear not FCB fans - head 1 door over to Gravity 1020 for all your FCB beer and food needs.

Mountains and West

Palisade Brewing Co (Palisade) - The brewery is planning to have some fun with firkins tonight as they will be tapping a firkin named Simon and Garfunkel Hippie. If you can be the 1st to identify the ingredients then they will buy your 1st beer for you. It taps at 4:20pm as always.
