Colorado Beer NewsToday is Jules Verne's Birthday. Considered by many to be the father of Science Fiction, Jules Verne was born on this day back in 1828. He wrote such classics as Around the World in 80 Days, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Mysterious Island. Rediscover one of his classics in book or film and pair it with a good craft beer. Here's what's happening around the Colorado beerosphere today Friday, February 8th, 2013.

Metro Denver

Grand Lake Brewing Co (Grand Lake) - For those in the Denver metro area who haven't had the chance to try some of Grand Lake Brewing's beers before, they will be offering up a FREE beer tasting at Total Beverage in Thornton, CO today, February 8th, from 4-7pm. If you buy a 6-pack you'll get a 7th beer free.

Wit's End Brewing Co (Denver) - Wit’s End Brewing Company is excited to announce their 2nd Annual Valentine’s Day Beer and Chocolate Pairing! Last year they presented an alternative to the institutionalized dinners and “specially” overpriced roses by creating their own offering to the Hallmark gods. Stand proud with your single status and do something fun rather than sulking at home, you might even meet somebody in real life? Couples, if you want to do something a little different for Valentine’s Day, or just need to kill some time before the dinner reservation you had to make six months ago, they won’t judge, come on in and enjoy the pairings. Wit's End will be bringing back some of the awesome previous pairings as well as some new ones to blow your mind. Also, be ready for a special sappy playlist of music to wallow in the sorrow of love lost, or simply indulge in some guilty pleasures celebrating your highly functional relationship. The pairing will be on Thursday, February 14th from 4-9pm ish or until the chocolate runs out.

Diebolt Brewing conceptDiebolt Brewing Co (Denver) - One of Denver's breweries in planning revealed some of their conceptual design plans on their web site today. Diebolt is working to open a small community brewery at 3855 Mariposa Street and are targeting an early Summer opening. Be sure to follow their progress on their Facebook page. Boulder County

Oskar Blues (Longmont) - Looking for a Fat Tuesday party? Head over to O.B.'s Home Made Liquids & Solids in Longmont this coming Tuesday, February 12th for their Mardi Gras Party featuring an all night oyster bar, $5 hurricanes, fried gator bites, blackened Red Fish, King Cake, live music, caricatures, face-painting and more. Dress up in your best Mardi Gras outfit to qualify for some great prizes. This is a family friendly event that starts at 5pm. Also, up in Lyons at their original Oskar Blues Grill & Brew, they'll hosting a 2nd Mardi Gras Party with a special tapping of Grandma's Pils, live music, Cajun food and King Cake. Kids eat for 99 cents.

Mountain Sun (Boulder) - Stout month continues at all 3 locations. There is a brand new stout release today at Mountain Sun on Pearl: Brett Stoudt. No, that's not a misspelling, it's named after their Brewery Warehouse Manager, Brett Stoudt, and the idea for the beer crystallized the day Brett was hired. This project started during last year's Stout Month when they took their Walkabout Stout and put it in oak barrels with sour cherries and two strains of Brettanomyces Wild Yeast. The time spent in the barrel (almost 1 year) lends aromas of oak and vanilla followed by a pronounced pineapple and cherry pie flavor from the Wild Yeast. Try some or any one of 13+ different stouts on tap.

Avery Brewing (Boulder) - At 5pm today, Avery Brewing will be tapping their hermit, the beer who will not leave the house - Eremita V! It's an exclusive tap room only sour ale made with a unique 14-barrel blend fromCabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Whiskey wood. This version sports a darek, red hue with vanilla and balsamic aromas, a rich flavor with notes of fig and a surprisingly dry finish.

Gravity Brewing (Louisville) - Looking for a new barrel-aged brew? Stop in at Gravity Brewing today when they'll be tapping their Bourbon Barrel Aged Mendacious (Belgian Blonde). This brew definitely got better with age.

Northern Colorado

Goose Island Beer Co (Chicago) - Since being purchased by AB InBev, the Chicago brewery Goose Island has been prepping for a nation-wide roll out of several of their beers, many of which will now be produced in Fort Collins, Colorado at the Anheuser-Busch brewery. Their 312 Urban Wheat Ale, Honker's Ale, Goose Island IPA and several seasonal offerings will be produced in Colorado and in a sister facility in Baldwinsville, New York. Goose Island will oversee the production of all the beers at these facilities.

High Hops Brewery (Windsor) - There's a beer festival going on tonight at High Hops in Windsor. It's their 1st Annual Firkin Fest running from 12 noon to close tonight. High Hops, Windsor's newest brewery, is in a firkin good mood and will be rolling out six different firkins for you to try. They've installed 6 new taps in the tap room as well. They'll be opening up all fourteen taps with something great on each one. There's going to be plenty of food too. Enjoy the comfort of their indoor beer garden and listen to live music from Indigent Row. More info on their website. Also, don't forget to sign up for the High Hops Beer Dinner happening at Choice City Butcher & Deli in Ft. Collins on Tuesday, February 19th.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse (Loveland) - The seasonal Munster Altbier called "Old Sultan" is returning to the tap room on Tuesday, February 12th at 6:00pm. Stop in for a taste. There's still some of their official Loveland's Valentine Beer - The Bleeding Heart Coffee Porter left on tap too. Always something brewing at Grimm Brothers. Tonight, stop in for $5 Firkin Friday and some Oak Conditioned Fearless Youth.

New Belgium (Ft. Collins) - New Belgium announces Louisiana and Alaska distributor partners. Shipping to Alaska in mid-March and Louisiana starting April 1st. New Belgium Brewing has inked deals with seven distributors to open the state of Louisiana on April 1st, 2013 and will distribute exclusively with the Odom Corporation in Alaska starting March 18th. Louisiana will be New Belgium’s 31st state of distribution along with the District of Columbia. In Louisiana, New Belgium signed deals with Eagle Distributing of Shreveport, Marsala Beverage, Southwest Beverage, Schilling Distributing, Champagne Distributing, Crescent Crown Distributing and Mockler Distributing.

The Fort Collins Brewery (Ft. Collins) - Announcing the Improved FCB Tap Club. Earn Rewards. Become Family. The FCB Tap Club has existed since the founding of the brewery as a way for our most dedicated fans to earn rewards for doing what you love: drinking FCB beer. To celebrate the awesome automated growler filler they're installing in the Tasting Room, they're going to make the Tap Club even more exciting starting March 1st, with additional ways to earn exclusive Tap Club rewards. Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins) - A new taproom release is coming to Odell this Saturday, February 9th when they release their new Amuste - a porter brewed with grape juice and aged in wine barrels. Amuste is the culmination of a two year endeavor to marry these two fuels into the same fire. An Imperial Porter aged in oak wine barrels accented with juice from Tempranillo grapes grown on the Western Slope of Colorado, this harmonic combination is truly, a must.

Coopersmith's Pub & Brewing (Ft. Collins) - Now that their Beautification project is complete, their Pub Side is now back open for business. Plenty of great craft beer pouring now on both sides of Coopersmith's.

Mountains and West

Two Rascals Brewing (Montrose) - A movie and a beer - what could be better? Join in at Two Rascals on Wednesday, February 20th at 7:00pm for a free film screening of "Spirit of Snow" by Dave O'Leski. The movie highlights a soulful and enlightening glimpse into the ethereal beauty of backcountry powder skiing. Two Rascals Brewing is located at 147 N. 1st Street in Montrose.

Bars, Restaurants and Misc.

The Mayor of Old Town (Ft. Collins) - Come to their F.A.C. today from 3 to 5pm - which means, Free Pizza with the purchase of an Adult beverage. They also will have Marty Nightengale playing live at the Mayor for the first time! Come check it all out....but come early as they've started to see a line forming around 4:15pm.

Hops & Pie (Denver) - Just tapped for your weekend - Surette from Crooked Stave, Funkwerk's Saison and Elevation Beer Co's Oil Man Imperial Stout. Available now on tap. Stop in for a beer and a bite.
